Female singer is Christine Rhoades. They were recording the album, everyone was shitfaced fucking around in the studio. Story is Christine belted out her parts and Warrel loved it, but the audio quality wasn't great. They tried again a few days later after discovering it, couldn't replicate the same magic. They managed to get the original audio recordings to sound well enough for this song. This song and entire album is about his ex girlfriend who had left him for another man, got married and was hitchhiking with her new husband. They were picked up by the infamous Truck Stop Serial Killer. Unfortunately both were murdered and unidentifiable for some time when their bodies were found separately. Warrel did not know if she was alive or dead as he wrote this album. He stated he had dreams frequently about her passing and that she was communicating with him from the other side.
The hidden female vocals were coming from the the grave. This song and entire concept album makes me feel the loss of my twin brother completely. In November he will have left this world 20 years ago and he took a peice of my soul with him.
I saw Nevermore with a good friend years ago. This friend of mine knew they were my favorite band. We were stage left of their performance in front of the mosh pits right in front of the speakers. After Nevermore's set, he jumped the barricade and nabbed one of Jeff Loomis's guitar picks off his mic stand and gave it to me. I'll never forget that moment. It's a white Dunlop pic with their "Nevermore" slogan on one side.

This is part of a concept album. Right in the middle. As a whole it's a masterpiece. By itself it still a beautiful song but a little anemic.
