    • @stonervivi
      @stonervivi ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I always missed that the prince's age as a factor in the pettiness. I was always so hung up on how she cursed the entire staff due to the one dude's one decision. Did Chip deserve to get cursed to be a chipped cup as a baby due to a 15 year old turning away some old lady? Or did their age freeze and Chip was age locked at 10yo? Either way, this age thing brought a whole new level of petty to the messed up nature of this curse😂

    • @RaefonB
      @RaefonB ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@rebeccawyse5562 The curse was "until his 21st year". This doesn't necessarily mean his 21st birthday, maybe means his 21st year of being a beast? But I don't remember anything that says his 25th birthday, so, if this theory is correct, he could have been any age and then we could assume he was an older teen/adult, same as it shows in the stained glass story-telling at the start...

    • @RaefonB
      @RaefonB ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@stonervivi Lol, definitely a petty curse! 😆 But the dog seems pretty youthful when he's turned back, so I reckon nobody aged, they all stayed the age they were when cursed. (So Chip was a little kid, even if the beast wasn't - that enchantress still cursed babies!) If we include the Beast as well, it might mean he had until his "21st year" of being cursed, not his 21st birthday... 🤔

    • @stonervivi
      @stonervivi ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RaefonB The time factor definitely could be all Wibbly-Wobbly, cause Lumiere said in the song that they've been cursed 10 years. The rose is dropping it's last petal the following spring, so let's say 11 years. So he very well could have been 10yo when she cursed him. Or make him suffer being 21yo Beast for 11 years. Regardless, the dog and the child blow this whole thing into a weird timey-whimey question, and erase the enchantress' moral high-ground😂

    Dude, rewatching this movie is making me wish we still had this kind of animation. 3D might be good and all, but nothing compares to the beauty of hand drawn animation. Seriously, think about all the effort that went into doing Cel-animations to create iconic movies like this. These movies were visual master pieces, and I can't over sell you on why we need more of these kinds of movies. That's what I hope to do with my future studio, make more of these kinds of animation as well as Computer generated animated films/series.

    This movie was one of the last ones that genius composer Howard Ashman worked on. The film was previewed at the New York film festival and despite being incomplete, most of it still in pencil tests, it got a standing ovation. After that showing the crew went over to the hospital where Howard was being treated for AIDS/HIV. They spent a long time with him telling him how everyone loved the movie. He never got to see the movie finished but that story is something I always think of watching it and I always cry.

    🎶 "When I was a lad, I ate four dozen eggs every morning to help me get large/And now that I'm grown, I eat five dozen eggs/So I'm roughly the size of a barge." 🎶
    Say what you will about the man, but Gaston's villain song is a slapper.
    Fun Fact: Disney's 30th animated feature film.
    That's My Jackie Fact: Jackie Chan performed the voice acting and singing for the Beast (Robby Benson) in the Chinese (Mandarin) dub of this movie.
    Casting Notes Fact: Rupert Everett auditioned for the role of Gaston, but was told by the directors he didn't sound arrogant enough. He remembered this when he voiced Prince Charming in Shrek 2 (2004).
    Music Enthusiast Fact: Dame Angela Lansbury thought that another character would be better suited to sing the title ballad. Directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise asked her to make at least one recording to have for a back-up; that one recording ended up in the movie.
    Final Bow Fact: All songs were the last complete works for a movie by Academy Award winner Howard Ashman. Ashman died eight months prior to the release of this movie. This movie is dedicated to Ashman; at the end of the final credits, you can read the dedication: "To our friend Howard, who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul, we will be forever grateful."

    Beauty and the beast is one of my fave fairytales. I’ve read many different versions of it and seen different movie or tv versions. This movie is beautiful and has great music. Belle is my fave Disney Princess. Cinderella and Snow White were like damsels in distress but Belle went out and traded her life to save her fathers. She turned down Gaston and showed bravery. She grew to love the Beast for the inside not the outside appearance.

    The inspiration for this Disney crew on this was a wonderful old French black and white movie called "La Belle et la Bete," by a truly wonderful director named Jacque Cocteau. I know it's not in your usual wheelhouse, but I'd highly recommend a watch. Also the same to anybody who reads this comment. It's a masterpiece, and the people who made this version thought so too.

    Thank you for that rant about the enchantress cursing a little boy! I laughed ridiculously hard because I feel the same way!
    I was six when this movie came out and it was my all-time favorite Disney movie for years (I still love it, but I think Tangled took the top spot). But as many times as I watched it, it took me until I was an adult to realize that the Beast had been cursed when he was eleven. It didn’t help that the sequel showed the night the Beast was cursed in a flashback and the prince actually looks older. But there you have it.

    There were some things in Beast's castle that were not alive so Beast didn't kill anyone, except for accidentally killing Gaston.
    And Belle was in the castle for at least half a year.
    It's late spring or early summer in the beginning of the film and Maurice leaves at the same time.
    Belle leaves soon after to find her father.
    By the time all the commotion and romance is happening it's the end of winter.
    Because it shows after the spell is broken spring has come.
    So that's more than enough time to fall in love.

    Love this reaction!!! When I was quite young Cinderalla was my princess, but then there was Ariel, but she was quickly supplanted a couple years later when Belle came along and stole the show - largely because they made Beast an actual character with a great story arc of his own, instead of just some aloof "knight in shining armor" or prince charming

    As for Chip being Mrs Potts' son......
    Mrs Potts was voiced by Angela Lansbury, who must have been around 65 when she did it.
    Chip was voiced by Bradley Pierce, who must have been around 8 when he did the voice work for the movie.
    Now, the character in their human form do kinda fit to those age descriptions.
    So, Mrs Potts would have been around 57 when Chip was born.
    For her being his mother that would be a bit far-fetched, but it would work for her being his grandma.

    Hey, J!
    Look at Gaston's Fall at the end of the movie frame-by-frame!
    If you look closely, the animators added skulls in his eyes in one frame to cement that he actually does die and wont be back through some diabolus-ex-machina.
    Being a Disney movie, it might not be a good idea to show the aftermath of a fall from that height, so they added the skulls to remove all doubt.

    My favorite Disney princess movie of them all. I love the story, the animation and the music. My favorite song, I would have to say is a tie between "Be Our Guest", "Human Again", "Something There", and "Beauty And The Beast".
    Also, Beast is technically what's known as a chimera in Greek mythology. He's got different animal features mixed into one character:
    The head and horns of a bison, the brow of a gorilla, the tusks of a wild boar, the body and front legs of a bear, and the hind legs and tail of a wolf.

    Witch cursed an eleven-year-old boy. Then Beast kidnaps Belle's father for grins and giggles. Then he forces Belle to stay with him forever if he releases her father. Then she does the one thing he asks her not to do and gets mad at him for it. What's worse is that somehow feelings are developed for one another. These are two psychos who have somehow fallen for each other despite being absolutely wrong for each other in every possible sense.
    _Gaston_ is the most reasonable character in this movie, and that is a damn shame. At least he doesn't lie about what he is or what he wants.
    Also. "But he's different now," said every abused wife.
    I still don't understand how this is a _kids movie,_ when it's more a cautionary tale of "don't do anything any of these people do, ever".
