Just to let everybody know, bossanova is not a mix between jazz and latin music, bossanova is actually a subgender of samba which is a Brasillian style of music

Nice overview! Love your history videos, they're nice and clear and help put different musical genres in context. Can't wait for the specific genre videos, I really liked the way you follow the greats of each genre in your earlier clips and give some of their personal lives too, I think its really important to understanding their music, and its fun too! Keep up the great work!

Hi Allysia, A gazillion thanks for taking the time (and hugely admirable effort) to make this video 👍. It's always so refreshing to listen to you talk about 'other' styles other than 'classical' music 😃. I enjoy classical for sure, but really love Jazz and Pop music as well!

Wow I’m glad to have stumbled upon this. Looks like you’ve covered some of these genres more in depth since then so i’ll have to check those out along with your classical music history videos. It’s serendipitous to find this channel in general because I’m currently pricing out digital pianos to begin learning piano as a function of better understanding music theory in support of my guitar playing

Great video overall but I cannot let 1 huge mistake pass which was when you mentioned Sublime and used an image of Rome Ramirez, the band’s second singer that joined years later in 2009. Got caught off guard with the mistake considering the vast amount of research that had to be done to make this video.
Awesome video tho! Definitely a good summary and overview!

I'm teaching a lesson plan. But I'm curious of an actual timeline of history in American music. Blues, Rock n. Roll, Rap etc. Can someone possibly put together a list with dates etc. Please. Any and all feedback welcome. Thank you!!!

    • @quincy9908

I can do an order, but not specific time periods
Native American music: Existed first in the confines of the USA, and it is stated in the video that it doesn't have much influence on current popular music.
The true confines of the majority of America's popular music comes from Afro-Americans, so they'll be the focus in this regard.
But before hand. We have Germanic music (the English, Scottish, Dutch, and German) that came over during colonization. This led to the introduction of Classical music (which isn't a genre, but is a description of classical periods in Western Europe Baroque, Renaissance, etc). Along with that, Irish folk music came from indentured servants & criminals sent to the US. This led to a large settlement of people on the Appalachian mountains ⛰️. Not that far behind Africans was enslaved or in an indentured servitude.

In my opinion hip hop from 2010 and on is too early to have major influences in all of music. I think hip hop is interesting as a genre, but when told through the perspective of individual artists stories

Very interesting video. You seem to go out your way to include every race in the creation of American music. That is simply not so.
It was the African American who had the creative genius to develop all the popular musical styles in America including country and rock.
The banjo is essential to bluegrass. How could you talk about the genre and not mention african american's contribution to the genre. It should be noted that the banjo is of african origin.
More detailed focus should have been made on the contribution african americans have made to American music.
American music was not created through a collective collaboration.

I am so bored out of my mind. You talk too much and there wasn't really any meat on the bones as far as seeing and hearing music goes. Maybe it's because I'm 18 and our professor wanted us to look for how music changed over the years and too young to appreciate but I would rather hear more of the music and less talking, it was just too much.
