As it goes Garry Chalk at the time was my Optimus Prime growing up with the Unicron Trilogy transformers shows. I didn’t know Peter Cullen until the live action movies came out. Peter Cullen is Optimus Prime but Garry Chalk will always have a special place in my heart. Exact same here, for years Peter was just the Toonami narrarator guy to me. But once I saw the movies I definitely understood he's the GOAT, but Gary will always be special to me.
Peter Cullen is the definitive voice of the legendary Autobot Leader. Garry Chalk is a great second as Prime in the Unicron trilogy, but to me he is Optimus Primal.
While Peter Cullen will always be held in high regard, it isn't just the voice alone. Optimus was based on Larry Cullen, Peter's late veteran brother who said that "If you want to be a hero, be a real hero. Don't be like the Hollywood hero with the yelling and pretending to be tough. Be strong to be gentle." At least for a period of time, Hasbro seems to misunderstood that to be Optimus is simply having Cullen as the voice of him, or at least an impersonator with a close enough similarity. Only with the sound and none of the substance (I'm looking at you, Netflix WFC). Neil Kaplan started with imitating Cullen, but naturally grows out of it and be natural, emulating his kindness. Same with Jake Tillman with Cyberverse. Chris Hemsworth took the cake by portraying Orion as a freecare youth that slowly displays the iconic maturity that G1 Optimus known for.
I saw a Transformers table-read event in theaters. Before the actors did the show, they were being interviewed. I was surprised that Peter's regular voice was NOT his Optimus voice. PS, Before I knew him as Prime, I knew him as Eeyore.
The first live action transformers movie is what got me to the franchise, and Peter Cullen was the first and will always be the best Optimus Prime voice and he still did great in Rotb

Peter Cullen is as Earl Jones was to Darth Vader. Both of them brought their main characters to Life!! without doubt they are considered LEGENDS!!! . And I forgot to mention Gary chalk is also a legend. I grew up with him as Optimus from Transformers Armada I unfortunately didn’t get to watch much of John and Cybertron except on TH-cam and a cartoon channel on the Internet. But I would like to give a shout out to Neil who voiced Optimus from RID 2001. He was a great Optimus as well.

Peter's voice in the role has aged like fine wine. The older it gets, the deeper in tone, making it feel like an old and rather weary general who is tired of fighting but still has to, to protect the ones he swore to defend.
I really miss the lighter, youthful voice of 80s Cullen, but his "modern" voice is iconic. I do like Foushee's OP too, but I think he tries too hard to imitate Cullen's voice (or was coached to imitate it) instead of doing his own thing.
This might just be, but I think David Kaye would've been a better choice to cast as Optimus again for Transformers One rather than Chris Hemsworth. He has that youthful tone and it fits the age as Orion Pax before he becomes Optimus Prime.
I was skeptical at first, but I'm actually amazed at how good of a job Chris Hemsworth did. Peter Cullen will always be number one in my book, but Chris Hemsworth is no slouch.

Then as he gets older, his voice gets deeper, and the iterations in Bayverse and Prime displays him as darker and a bit brooding.
