I have a Yamaha APXT2 and I play it more than all my other ones even at home as it's great to sit down and relax with as it does not get in the way however you sit, have also taken with me and played live on stage, it does not feed back easily it is beautifly in tune and stays in tune and almost every has laughed when I pick it up but are amazed at the huge sound that it produces when plugged in, one of the cheapest and best instruments I own, highly recommended.
Owned most of these, the martin has aged the best...truthfully its one of my fav guitars now.
Guitar reviews need to provide basic dimensions, especially for small guitars. We buy them for their small size and good playability.
My father in law has the Mini Martin. As a novice player I really like it.
I LOVE TRAVEL GUITARS!!!! My new favorite travel guitar video
For me the best Travle Guitar is the Sigma TME with a Massiv Body and Electric System. I love this Guitar at Home and on Stage.
Sigma make great guitars :)
Absolutely GS Mini. In fact even before the review started, GS mini was already sounding great!
This was one of the best informative video on travel guitars! Great job
I think the Yamaha sounded the best here, just listening on my iPhone speaker. I played a couple last week and they were really nice.
I’m surprised by the fender too. Sounded nice for $200 bucks.
If you guys are traveling, get the Taylor BT-2. The GS Mini is a bit too large. My experience.
Journey Carbon cutaway, indestructible, plays well, small body, nice case it's not just a traveler for me; my everyday player. $1200 bucks, but you'll never hurt it or worry about it. No equalizer but has decent pickup inside. The cutaway doesn't go completely through the instrument so it can be a bit of a stretch to hit those very highest notes. I paid an extra $50 for a blue one. I love mine and have no regrets. When people ask me if I play the guitar, I whip this thing out and say, "Yeah, I play a little guitar......"
I know you posted this joke a year ago but I chuckled 😂
Nothing beats the GS mini. ESPECIALLY live.
joey keenan really? Not even the LX1E? Sheeran disaproves your comment🤣 jk
Just picked up a YAMAHA CSF1M!!! Was going to choose the Taylor Baby Guitar 2016, but noticed that the CSF had a better sound and the size is perfect for me! Can’t wait to perform!
Hi, I am a BIG FAN of all your videos. If possible, please make a 2020 video on new travel guitars. We would like to see the Taylor GS mini Koa plus compared to 1) Fender PM-TE Mahogany Travel, 2) Washburn G Mini 55 Koa and 3) Breedlove Companion body Organic series all solid guitar and if you know anything else like these. To be precise, Compact Body Solid Top (or all solid) Guitars with Electronics and Good Play-ability with Good Sound + Overall Value for money. Thank you in advance!
That CT 60 sounded better than the little Martin and its one I've never considered before. I might have to get one. Mind you, your playing makes everything sound great
thanks for the great shootout, i think the CSF1M sounded best, but it seemed a little bigger than the others as well...
A concern I would have if you intend on taking your guitar outdoors is the solid spruce tops on most of these samples and how they would be affected by weather extremes. i.e. humidity or lack thereof, heat and cold. The Martin Backpacker although solid wood would be less of a concern because of its small size and solid construction.
There’s a great travel guitar that I never see mentioned or reviewed, it’s the Luna Safari Supreme. It’s a 3/4 size dreadnaught like the Baby Taylor. The Luna Safari Supreme has a solid spruce top with laminate mahogany back and sides. The back is also bowled like the Baby Taylor, which gives it more volume and a little more low end. It also comes with a case and is only $200. It’s a great guitar (I own one), and for whatever reason it’s always overlooked and never reviewed.
Can you connect it to an amp?
That does look like a real nice guitar, thanks for the suggestion
Rock on Chris! 🎸 Why didn’t you use the included strap with the Martin? 🎸Ok - 2nd edit. I was talking about the first Martin. The one without a body 🎸 4) You jumped on your kid’s guitar????? 🎸
Good video for steel string guitars, now can we have the same treatment for the nylon/classical crowd? Thanks
Outstanding video, Chris! Thank you, I am considering a travel guitar and your video could not have been more timely. It really helps that you play the same music for each guitar so that we can make direct comparisons to volume and tone. Very helpful.
Try the SX Trav 1 guitar. Highly recommended.
10 years ago my friend showed me his SX Trav 1 he got while in China. I could never find it in the states and have finally found it tonight online and ordered one! So excited.
Got the Nylon version of the Martin Backpacker. Love it! It sounds very similar to Willie Nelson's Trigger, with the volume of a full-sized gut-string. Only downside to me is the gig bag, which looks more like a rifle bag, so it ain't feeling very comfortable carrying it.
Hahaha
have an orangewood Dana. sounds and plays great
That's Rick Harrisons lost brother
How about 15.50 for the taylor
@@soobarey3775 Yeah you know I'm not real sure on this one, so what I'd like to do is call my buddy down here to take a look..
'Nut width and what not.'! Rather lyrical!
GS mini wins. Hands down. Or hands on. I'll pay extra and walk out of the dealer a happy camper.
Great options here. Also check out Eastman guitars. Great instruments but very affordable
Súper video! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
GS Mini vs. CSF 1M Yamaha
Quality/price, which is the best?
I wished you would play more strumming tunes instead of fingerpicking these travel guitars. If I am around a campfire, I would be strumming not fingerpicking, in my beginners opinion.
I think Washburn Rover is worth mentioning. It looks and sounds so much better than the Martin paddle style.
The Wise Monk bro wife bought me a blue rover I love it. It’s almost my favorite of all my guitars.
Another similar sized guitar to the rover. Is the Sx traveller. Lower price and it has a nice sound.
everyone: whats the most convenient acoustic for travel?
Journey instruments: yes
Curious if you choose the play style because it’s just suits your personal style? It would be really nice to hear someone really strumming on these guys!
Thanks,
G
@discorperted tbf he's trying to sell the guitars and its running through mics that they can edit the sound afterwards. Of course its not gonna sound as good as a full size guitar, its made for portability and having fun as easily as possible.
I’d agree strumming will show up a lot of good and bad things. I’ve just brought a Sx traveler guitar, for its low price and extremely small size I’m impressed with it. Cheers
My favorite was the yamaha apxt2
That one had no bass, the CSF1M sounded pretty nice to me though.
I love my lil pixie! APXT2
Great for us dingbats who broke their shoulder.
You give everything we need to know about the products thanks!
Would have been cool to have a tracing of all the bodies in different colors on a piece of cardboard to have a visual representation of the sizes
Best one not mentioned = Martin DJr D 10 beats GS Mini !
Hell yeah.
The Yamaha is my main guitar. Lot easier to play as a tiny woman. Just picked up a backpacker and it's a cute little guitar
I like the paddle
There is a readon why the ApXT2 is demoed 1st.
Thanks, just the review I was looking for!
bruh im just small..
i cant barely fit my arm over my acoustic rn, thinking about selling it and getting a travel bc of how small i am..
It's a great idea actually! The instrument should fit the player, not the other way around.
Really surprised how good the Journeyman sounded.
Would love to see a review of Snap Dragon Guitars folding travel models, especially the Picnic
I like this vid. cause of the same recording part (hope so) on each guitar. clicking the playing part gives a real fine tone-difference. most to the martin backpacker. thx for that and the most important thing comes about 19:32: if you play a note it can change your life!
I think a comparison between the gs mini and the dreadnought Jr. Would be more fair.....
I have the Dreadnaught Jr and it knocks the socks off the GS Mini imho. It's a little larger, a bit pricy but sounds closer to a full size guitar than all the others and plays beautifully. Traded in my Baby Martin, grabbed this all solid wood guitar about two years ago and could not be happier.
Hi John, I did the same thing. Brought an Ed Sheeran Baby Martin. I couldn't get used to the 1 11/16 nut width. I sold it and brought a Dreadnought Junior as well. I was luck to choose between 5 DRJ's. I love mine. For it's size the tone is as close to a full size. The only thing I noticed is it's not as loud as my 000. But this works OK with singing. The pickup could be better, I can clean it up with a preamp. For an all solid guitar, you can't complain about the price. It will stay with me until the end :) Cheers, Brent
Can you take a parlor guitar as a carry on with airlines?
You should check out Sigma TM15e
I've read that if you damage the HPL it is very hard and expensive to get repaired.
I feel like duct tape or some heavy duty tape should do the trick on patching it up
It wouldn’t be worth it anyways, unless it was a very sentimental thing, it would cost less to buy a brand new one.
Thanks! any good one with nylon strings? Not the martin paddle construction...
Gdg dg , I’ve just brought a SX traveller guitar and for the money it’s ok sounding and is nice to play. I’m sure they also do a nylon string version. You should check these out😀. Brent
@@elijahmonn3757 Thanks bro! Have a good day! I'll check it...
Gdg dg, are you a kiwi? Bro is a New Zealander saying. I’m a kiwi😃
@@elijahmonn3757 Sorry, not close... jajaja
yamaha 2:31
fender 4:40
martin backpacker 7:06
yamaha csf1m 9:08
martin 11:20
taylor 14:26
journey 18:43
Only the Journey and the Air-Voyager are true travel guitars (or any other with a removable neck).
I agree. I have a Journey guitar and can't imagine travelling without the detachable neck feature. But most my travel is planes, bicycles and motorcycles. I guess car travellers don't need a detachable neck as much.
Where's the martin djr?
I have been eying travel guitars for a while and had pretty much chosen a traveler cl-3e, I am concerned it might not go on the plane though despite what the website says. Any thought or compares to what you played here I see it didn't make your list
which one is better the Yamaha APXT2 or Cort AD mini?
Thanks in advance
Cort Mini Standard or Gold Version both are better ! Take a look at Ibanez AW54jr (made at the cort factory) ℹ A good bargain are the Harley Benton Travel Guitars...kind regards from Berlin 😷
You never mentioned the price for the Yamaha CSF1M.
I've been looking for a video about the CT-60S. There isn't much content about it yet, so this was informative. Thanks!
I was impressed with the sound of this little Fender. And I am bias to Martin and Sigma guitars :) You don't see it for sale in NZ at the moment. Cheers, Brent
Anyone thinking of the Martin should look at Scott Grove's review. He makes a good case for its being virtually unplayable. You have to be wary of reviews done by vendors.
I've owned one. I loved it. I was a bit rough with it so I was thinking of getting another to get back into playing... You must have a strap 100% of the time. But other than that it plays buttery smooth sounds good enough and is suuuper compact, can take it anywhere .
Great video, thanks for doing it.
What strings did you have on Martin Backpacker?
Believe they were the factory issued strings Authentic Acoustic Sp Strings
How about the FEnder PM TE????
You should play some open chords to see how they sound !
How can I find a case for the ct-60s?
Thank you for the great review !
Fender CT-60S or Arrow Silver?
The journey = a train wreck going somewhere to happen. nice bit of video trickery when you first put the neck on. no strings - then magically, strings across the bridge
Bevis Butthead always on they were just hanging
What is the pre amp of martin backpacker
Anyone else watching this video on threebrain's Good Morning Shut Up playlist?
This Martin lx1E is eletric or not ?????
electric since the last letter of the model is E
Ok...
Fender CT 60 looks like smaller version of Fender FA100
thumbs up for zoolander reference in under a minute!
Rj ramoncito is good 2
The yamaha apxt2 & the martin backpacker i would avoid. They dont sound good
Agree, the other Yamaha did sound pretty nice though
Martin is best
I like little martin but the price is a little high already.
Are travels size guitars a “good” size for kids?
Ya!
No..
.way to expensive.
Taylor GS Mini 🥺
Man it's very costly 😭
Right. The GS Mini is above my price for a guitar I'd take camping and harder to fit in crowded planes Best for gigging.
Quite nice, i think you would like my music for your videos as well, perhaps you would be intersted to use my music for your next video? Good work!
No
Why does no one from Texas have a southern accent any more?
If we grow up in cities, we're city-fied.
The Martin Backpacker sucks. Neck heavy. It wont sit on your lap and if you let go of it it goes down like a dive bomber. You can buy a Yamaha Junior costs $100 all day. I had a Taylor and the gig back is great but nothing exceptional about the guitar. And why there are 2 dry wall screws in the neck is beyond me. He has just made me aware that there are more than the mini which I had so maybe I will look into that more. The big problem is the tuners. they suck.
Travel guitars are a solution to essentially a non existent problem.
If you find it difficult to travel with a standard sized guitar then you are doing it all wrong.
the biggest joke are those who talk about 3/4 sized instruments as some sort of miracle cure for imagined travel woes.
Other than the Taylor they all have that travel guitar sound… dull with no resonance
The Martin Backpacker was a complete engineering failure. Worst guitar design ever made. Three rubber bands on a boat paddle would make more sense and be easier to play.
You may hate it but I don't think you can say it is a complete failure since it is still in production after 30 years.
Gosh mini guitar are gross!
men clean all those guitars before you make videos. they are all full of dust. jajajaj
What about the Yamaha JR2???
