That discussion between Peter and the first entrepreneur was pretty tense, it felt like he was selling his soul to the devil...
He got a fantastic deal, gets 150000 to prove a concept, if it works he gets 1/4 ownership of one of Peters development companies, if it doesn't work he still got the 150000

@@IAmTheJayster I'd like to understand the deal better. Who will cover the further cost in 12 months (e.g. development and operations)? Also if the existing conversations with the retailers he mentioned turn into actual sales, who will get the revenue out of it? I am just confused as this is not the usual structure of the final deal in dragons den. Normally, the dragon only gets certain % for a certain period, then would reduce it once they get their money back

The wand company went on to do very well. It took them much longer to get to 1.2 million than they predicted. Currently they are turning over 1.5 million. So Duncan did ok.
That wand was pure magic to him. And quite magical it was for him indeed.

Karuma Innovations is a Singapore based company but is no longer selling the Tablet PC's pitched in the den. The investment never went through and Karuma has since developed into a consultancy business.

They are still around, did 1 million their first year after investment, and they're introduced more products to their line. It appears they're doing pretty decent.

The US-Stock Mrkt had been on it’s longest bull-run in history, so the mass hysteria and panic is relatable considering we’re not accustomed to such troubled mrkts, but there are avenues lurking around if you know where to look. @@OakApplegardens yeah. Having watched all the shows variants, I guess the UK enjoy: interrogation, logistics, seeing the dragons get angry, a catchphrase and Jenny being out.
In the others the focuses are: big business deals, being over the top, lots of banter between the sharks and a much less serious vibe.
The difference is this is real where as the puff and fluster of USA n Oz are just like a Trump's promise, nothing, just TV... Get real or go home... Opps

Oh just wait until you watch the Israeli shark tank. Being able to watch it is one of the only things that I'd say are worth the process of learning Hebrew from scratch solely for a specific purpose.
The first one was reallyyyy cool to watch!! Its nice how respectful the dragons are of each other and how open minded they are! Their silence and dedicated attention while peter was negotiating was impressive. Theyve interrupted each other before, but they could all tell he was cooking up something amazing in his brain and *wanted* to listen to him kill it. Respect off the charts, they all learned something. Very cool
they were all out by that point so why would they argue?

Interesting Fact: Duncan Bannatyne agreed to invest, but later, the Wand Company turned down the investment. The Wand Company grossed £1 million in the first year.

I am surprised by the Wand Company ... especially Peter's interest. They even explained that it is just a universal remote control chip (and the downside that you have to learn it the relevant code, hardly magic!) - so although it is novel, I thought at least Peter would know how the PCB was able to determine gestures and orientation. But all credit to them, they have managed to make it sell well. I presume primarily as it isn't a large rectangular remote.
A niche market and clear longevity of the product are good reasons to buy.
this is an old dragns den, this is from over 12 years ago, so at the time, it was something novel. Its not JUST a universal remote chip, there are accelerometers and other stuff going on. Fairly normal for today, but if you think this was pretty much at the same time as the iphone 3, which was game changing tech, then its more understandable

Peter got dedicated employee developer. Ashley got the break he needed and he would work his sock off to get successful product and Peter's ongoing support. Win Win

This was the best dragon line up to date, there been other great dragons but in terms of all 5 , this was the best.
Peter's downright a savage genuis to have concocted that deal with Ashley! Giving him the sense of security of a pseudo job, and the incentive of 25% ownership if he delivers 👏
If he doesn't end up delivering Peter's requirements he still gets the 150000 and owns 100% of his business, really good deal for the guy
There was no job security though. Peter made it clear that Ashley would get fired the first moment Peter doesn't feel like the profits are sufficient. That couldn't be any more far from "job security"

For the magic wand one, if you were wondering what the top secret next project was, they wanted to make a Doctor who themed version with the sonic screwdriver, but due to lack of funding from sales in the second year, they cancelled the idea. They made 2 mil in the first year, but the next year was an absolute disaster.
What happened that It made It a disaster? Has the Company failed?

@@ShinseiX my mistake, a couple of years ago, the US side was showing a value of over $3m but it seems to be in falling apart now. It's come down from £2m in 2019 to £975k in 2021. Partly down to a 13 fold increase in liabilities!

The magic wand was a total waste of money. I actually bought it. When You watch it on TV it seems like wow! it's like a real magic wand! I wave it and this turns on, I rotate it and that turns on. But in reality the moment I bought I suddenly realized "How many remotely controlled things do I have at home? Basically only TV and video player." And it also had such limited number of functions. It couldn't even replace the TV remote controller. I still had to use one. I played with it for may be half an hour and never touched it again.

They were a huge disappointment to me. I bought a 2pack in the US for $7.00 (about 5 pounds) and didn't find them good at all. They were a great idea concept-wise but didn't deliver as expected.

Yes and no, he incorporates that guys business into one of his already existing larger ones and launches it across his own product line because he now has access to that technology, and then that guy owns 25%of that bigger business department
