@@Insectordan Hey there, compared to the 2.5 patch same settings plus clouds on ultra in stormy weather, with a g2 reverb, and I gained fps, even upped some other settings a bit and it took it fine.
On my hardware setup, the new clouds don't affect FPS at all. Unfortunately the new fire effect of burning ground vehicles did cause FPS drop. It happened when i flew an A-10C over a group of six burning tanks, previously hit by a CBU-97. Maybe it was smoke, not fire effect that caused FPS drop.

It's amazing how much of a difference clouds can make! Amazing isnt' it! Random Preset weather can be fun too - ended up in a snowstorm last time I did it! Love the feeling of flying "Through" clouds rather than "around" clouds! We can get a rainy day in England now too!

Hey Spudknocker. Lots of folks having problems with clouds In VR, The ED forums are fillin up with problems after loading up 2.7. Description of your system and settings may help some folks If you did anthing prior to or after loading 2.7. Headsets mentioned where Rift S. Reverb G2 and Valve Index as well as others. I’ve been checking out the clouds on the Channel map. I agree, absoutely gorgeous. Better than I expected and, so far, no performance hit. Everything does look better. I’ll do some more thorough performance checks using missions I typically have slow down on.
By the way, the UI for the loadout is not a small thing. Usability has always been a weak point of the DCS interface, the changes in this area are a significant improvement to the user experience. Just being able to properly see the liveries, let alone the ordinance makes for a, dare I say it, fun experience in one area that was always a little frustrating. And the improved labels for the bombs etc means I, for one, will not spend as much time in a browser window or the encyclopaedia as I would actually setting up a load. Creating missions has always been annoying for someone like me who doesn’t do it a lot as it’s often counter-intuitive. Changes to the interface are, to me, as exciting as the clouds. Ok, maybe not that much :D. Oh, and I know there was a mod to turn labels into dots but I never installed it as I tend to run vanilla. This particular change means someone like me, a bit older and with less perfect eyesight, can have improved immersion and less distraction from the labels plastered all over targets while still maintaining some SA which was almost impossible for me without labels in the past. I’m going to replay all the warbird campaigns I’d finished using labels but now with the dots!
Wait, 2.7 dropped today? And yes those clouds look better than I imagined. So what were your configurations to get these types of clouds? Ahh, now I see. Nice. That new loadout screen is pretty great as well. Some sunrise and sunset videos of all the cloud options would be amazing looking. Also be sure to get some external views as well.
Best thing being that you have now realistic variable visibility range inside the clouds, depending on their type and density, making it finally possible to penetrate them in formation!
They are gorgeous. Now if only rain didn't kill my rig... Sigh, it's always the little things... lol Also, is it just me or has the water gotten a few changes too? I didn't see anything in the Changelog, but of course that doesn't mean much.. lol
There will be thunderstorm clouds like in MSFS2020? The guys really did amazing work with clouds! I am a guy from a Flanker 2.0-times. And I am speechless! Great!
What about moisture in the clouds when flying through them (especially in the denser or slightly blueish/darker ones)? I did not see small drops of water running on the windshield or on the aircraft nose/wing/fuselage. Is it because of watching this on a mobile screen, or due to some graphics or mission editor settings?
IRL you’d never see that cause the jet is moving too fast the air pressure wave caused by the jet pushes water away from the aircraft as it passes through clouds rain etc at high speed
@@Spudknocker Thanks Spudknocker, that is clear and I forgot somehow that the speed you were flying through them was way above what I have experienced with slow movers (e. g. PA-31) cutting through cloudlayers. I hope they implement this "condensation feature" properly for slow(er) flying aircraft in the sim. BTW thx for the great vid Sir! 😉
Lock On and FC1 had it as well, exactly the same as it is now. For some reason they dumped it with DCS and folks have been requesting it back ever since the Black Shark release.
That's nice and all but in real life, it's very VERY rare to have two layers of clouds at once. Not only that, but I noticed most games and most simmers avoid complete overcast clouds for some reason, but that's the most common cloud layer! At least with the old clouds you could have a complete overcast, but it seems that's just not possible? I know it says "overcast" but 6/8th of a cloud layer is not overcast. It is not.
Hi Spudknocker, I was wondering if my prior purchased campaigns will take advatage of 2.7, or even work. I had to be in the beta for a couple of them to work, will they continue to function? Thanks

spudknocker can u make a video talk about the F18's radar.BIAS,Auto,Man, Spotlight mode after 2.7 patch
There will be thunderstorm clouds like in MSFS2020?
The guys really did amazing work with clouds!
I am a guy from a Flanker 2.0-times. And I am speechless! Great!
Wags mentioned cumulonimbus clouds were being worked on in Casmo's pod cast
Clouds will definitely make dog fighting more interesting and challenging for sure
Can't wait to see storms.
I bet it will be breathtaking in VR
Clouds are a bit jittery in VR atm, known issue, hope they can fix it soon
Hey Spudknocker, do you run DCS through Steam or standalone?
Is there a listing of system/software requirements needed to fly with your group?
Another slap in War Thunder's face
Freaggin awsome!
Digital Cloud Simulator has made some serious advancements.
Best patch ever! Totally made my day. These clouds are awesome
Well we the Falcon bois had 3D loadout viewer for a since 4.0
Lock On and FC1 had it as well, exactly the same as it is now. For some reason they dumped it with DCS and folks have been requesting it back ever since the Black Shark release.
Looks okay. Can’t wait to try it out.
I agree on the Syria lighting -totally.
Glad I’m not the only one!
The Viper handles better now, I don't know if it is just the percepcion or its real.
I kinda feld something this way after only 15 minutes of playtime. I Think its real
Hi Spud, great video! Can I ask which monitor you own? I'm interested in trying out the 2560x1080 resolution. Cheers!
Game Changer
The new cloud system is INSAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE I love it
That's nice and all but in real life, it's very VERY rare to have two layers of clouds at once.
It is not.
finding targets will be fun :D
Mate. Have a fly of the viper......it flys alot better. Doesn't beel speed/energy like it used to.....ED keep that quiet......👍👍
Tonight, on a very special Spudknocker...
Hi Spudknocker,
I was wondering if my prior purchased campaigns will take advatage of 2.7, or even work. I had to be in the beta for a couple of them to work, will they continue to function?
Thanks
They are updated
@@Spudknocker Nice!! Thanks again
