    Tremendous improvement to back drops - so ‘simple’ but so effective 👍

    Daryl, you might consider building the car shop floor up to the top of the ties - I'm not accustomed to seeing the track profile raised above the car shop floor - in fact, the rail tops are usually set at the height of the concrete floor. I LOVE your trackwork!

      That's the plan! Will do the same with the UTLX repair facility. Right now, high cube box cars clear the door by just a few inches.

    Howdy Daryl! Great point on the backdrops... when the train is moving next to them you only see it with your peripheral vision. Really great effect! Seems are virtually invisible at that point. I think it's going to work out awesome. Thanks for sharing 🤠

    A while ago I had a pikestuff building originally for an engine house. Now expanding and will use it as a car shop. Scratchbuilt a loco service building much larger than the pikestuff bldg.

    Recommend that you round over the corners of the plexiglass. The sharp corners have the ability to draw blood. But then again that may be a good way of encouraging operators to pay attention to where they put their arms.

    • @EvanstonSub

      Good idea, they are kinda sharp.

    Great idea with the plexiglass. It would be a horrible feeling to watch an engine hitting the floor. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and Labor Day!

    Backdrops look great. Interesting bit on the UP 9702. At first glance I thought you hadn't finish decaling it yet.

    Love the backdrops Daryl, you hardly notice the spliced sections but great idea hiding them with trees, dirt mounds and the boom truck. Is the red sill a manufacturing error or yellow is just more prototypical for your modeling timeframe? - Steve

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gov mandated reflective yellow or white on all rolling stock and motive power in 2011. All had to be completed by 2015. Since I'm doing around 2016-17, needed to have the yellow sills. Red Sills are appropriate for pre 2015.

    A pleasure, as always, watching one of your sunday layout updates.
    Just curious, What is the total amperage you use for your layout? Do you have a video on your full DCC setup by chance that I'm missing? Id love to see more of how you've wired all your busses and such at the point of the command station you're using!

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use one Digitrax 8-amp dsc210+ command station with three Digitrax power managers creating 12 total power districts.

    looking good as usual Mr. Cruise sorry if I misspelled your last name. Just bought an NCE POWER CAB and my first DCC SOUND GP40! need info on your turnout jigs please let me know where you got them. Gotta fulfill some of my bucket list stuff

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very nice! Handlaidtrack dot com I don't use the faststick turnout ties. Too expensive. I get ties from proto87 dot com and then glue them to the turnout template you can download from fast tracks.

    How’s the Pocatello sub gonna work ops wise?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's gonna be very simple I think. One train from the Pocatello sub and one train to the Pocatello sub.

    And you could change the dash 9 into a ac44 just change out the ac for the long converter box and add a few logos and good to go

  • @joshuamurphy150
    @joshuamurphy150 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you make your own turnouts?

    • @michaeltownsend5913
      @michaeltownsend5913 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand it’s just a lot cheaper overall if you make a lot of turnouts. It’s expensive at first for the jig and materials to start but after many turnouts, the cost per turnout made is far less than he could purchase an individual turnout for.

    • @joshuamurphy150
      @joshuamurphy150 ปีที่แล้ว

      @michaeltownsend5913 hmm. I'm gonna have to look into this. I honestly didn't realize it was a thing. I'm new to actually making a layout. Building my first ho scale layout as we speak. Growing up I always just helped my grandpa on his layout but the main layout was pretty much done by the time I started to help him with it. So I have mainly only messed with scenery and running the trains and doing operations.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I built 96 turnouts at an average cost of $8 per. It only takes 7-8 turnouts to make it cheaper than commercial units.

    Looking great there sir.
    Question, did you buy the plexiglass precut or did you cut it?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a 12"x36" piece from home depot for $17 and cut it into three pieces.
