I rarely comment BUT I have to say, I love your videos!! I’ve recently gotten back into knitting and your tutorials are so easy to follow along and watch!! Keep it up🫶
ok- I'm in my late 60's....I'm starting to knit after 40 years sewing!..I saw this and never thought it would be so easy!...It's late here- but I have saved it, I love it thanks fr easy explanations!
Thank you for this video. I made this blanket for my 1st Grandson in 2004 and lost the pattern I knew the name of the pattern and your video was the first I saw and didn't look any further.. It is so easy for a beginner. I made one this year, 2024 for a baby shower., a girl. I used a #10 circular needle, casted on 126 sts, finished size I made was 30" x 38" 🥰
Absolutely beautiful, I watch you and one other lady, and y'all have taught me Soo much. My wife's grandmother got me into knitting a year ago at Thanksgiving, and the different patterns I have learned from you have made her truly happy and I want to thank you so much.
I have made dozens usuing vb this pTtern i just a out habevthe stitches memorized. They all turn out beautiful. Made baby blanketscanf want bh to wqmake a scarf using this pattern. bbnl pattern. I do not make them in three panels i cast on enough stitches to just make a solid pattern because it looks much better.
When you get started put markers every 18 stitches to keep you going correctly. That way you can see where you start the repeats. Start with knit 2 together 3 times and end with knit 2 together 3 times. So after the first time you will actually have knit 2 together 6 times and yarn over 6 times except at the beginning of the row and end of row where you have knit 2 together 3 times. Good luck!
Thank you, Now I've been able to correct the mistake I was making, it's knit 2 together 3 times for the beginning & end of row but the middle is knit 2 together 6 times after the yarn over knit 1 6 times, At last, it's Such a Beautiful pattern 👌🧡
Hi D! Thank you so much for teaching me to knit! No one else was successful! Your. Videos are thoughtful, clear, and easy to follow! I love all your yarns, I can’t find them. Thank you, thank you, I am so appreciative for what you do. I’m obsessed now! ❤️Glittergirl
Hi! Thank you so much for the very clear instructions. I'm looking forward to trying it out! I was wondering how to finish up the piece? If i simply cast it off after the last row of the pattern i'll end off with a straight/wonky edge at the end opposed to the beautiful wavy edge at the beginning of the piece, am i right? Is there any way to have a wavy end to the work too? I'd appreciate some insight on this. Thank you :)
I like this wavy pattern and know how to do it on a straight piece knitting or crochet. I want to create a top down shirt. Since I have to start at the neck and enlarge to the size between the shoulders. How do I do that? Where can I add stitches and still keep the look of the pattern without distortions?. Do you have any video about making a whole shirt in one piece?
What I can say from attempting this particular stitch, the stitches are placed on loosely but not too tight. But, once you’ve completed row 1. The second row is very tight and snugged to the point I can’t get the 5.25mm needle in the side the two stitches. I’ve knitted Rib stitch before, and never experienced such a resistance. But, with this particular pattern I’m struggling. Any tips on how to for pass the tension on my needles? Do I need a different size needles?
I love this stitch and the result is beautiful. I would like to make this as a long rectangle to be used as a shawl, just draped over the shoulders. Do you have any suggestions about dimensions and the type of yarn? What about a silk blend which would be light and airy?
A silk blend sounds gorgeous! If you’re planing to knit a long rectangle shawl (I believe this is called a “stole”) I would aim for a width of 20-30” and length of 65-75”. Knit a gauge swatch and block it so you have an idea of how many stitches = how many inches. Then you can do some math and figure out the number of cast on stitches and repeats you need for the your desired dimensions. Good luck!
Very well presented! Thanks. Missed a couple of stitches due to not paying attention. How to bind off this lovely pattern with the waves to match the beginning. Can't find it anywhere.
Ive figured it out...the repeat is k2tog(3times), yarn over k1(6times), k2tog(3times)....for the next repeat start again with k2tog(3times), yarn over k1(6times), k2tog(3times)...repeat till end
@@richelorelia4110 That's the pattern shown in the video, but, like the others who mentioned getting extra stitches despite following this pattern, I'm winding up with as many as 20 extra stitches after four or so rows. I'm following that exact pattern.
Would this work with super chunky yarn? Oh well I guess I'll try it on a test swatch and see! So beautiful and truly looks so easy, I'm certain I can achieve this one! 😁
When we cast off, is it the way we normally do it, or is there a particular way with this one, so that the pattern remains like a wave? Btw, thank you for this tutorial!! I love your videos so much!!
Like some of the others, I ended up with more stitches than I needed. Finally sussed out that you need to follow the (K2tog) 3 times, ( yo, k1) 6 times and (K2tog) 3 times as 1 pattern, so the next bit starts (K2tog) 3 times etc So you have 2 blocks of ((K2tog) 3 times together. I was missing out the first bit each time . Does this make sense?
I'm a beginner at first i tthiough i did the procedures wrong since its not turning quite good but when i still continued to do it the pattern finally showed up
Don’t give up write down pattern and follow along with her. You can also stop video and then continue along. It happens to me also . I do over again if I mess up. One time I repeatedly did one 4 times and now I just go slower. Keep trying don’t give up. 😊
This is old shale which has the Garter ridge, feather and fan has no garter ridge but otherwise same pattern. You can adjust how intense the waves are by adjusting how many times you k2tog/yo combination
Fantastic video. Very easy to follow. I have one question. Why is my Feather and Fan knitting gaining stitches? I cast on 72 and now after repeating R1 to R4 twice I have over 100 on my needle? I followed your instructions precise but now I have soo many stitches across my needle my needle is chocked?
Make sure you are following the full repeat each time you repeat " k2 tog 3x, Yo k 6x, k2 tog 3x" Because if you don't decrease the stitches you will have too many increases Just count to make sure there are 6 decreases to each 6 increases to ensure they are canceling eachother out :)
It would look gorgeous! But just be aware that the lace can be a bit see-through, so you might want to avoid a wide panel of feather and fan across the bust 😅 otherwise you can always wear a tank top underneath
Is there a way I could use or make a square boarder around this stitch? I would love to make a few decorative wash clothes for some of the family and not sure how to add a knit stitch boarder. If not I will try the Irish moss stitch, but I just love the look of the fan stich, thanks again.
You can add a garter stitch border around the stitch. Maybe a 2 or 3 stitch border. The border will still be a bit wavy because of the feather and fan though which will be quite pretty!
It will depend on the weight of yarn you use. For example, a sock weight would need more stitches than a chunky weight. For a worsted weight yarn I’d say cast on between 100-130 sts or so. But the best way to figure out how many stitches to cast on is to knit a gauge swatch with your chosen yarn and needles. That way you’ll know how many sts = one inch. From there you can decide how wide you want the blanket to be, and with your gauge in hand some simple math will reveal the number of cast on sts. Here’s a video all about gauge: th-cam.com/video/M-lvbzhq3fo/w-d-xo.html hope that helps!
I don't understand! every time I go to the pattern row it is completely off. I keep unraveling and going back and trying to find a mistake but I can't. Is it normal for it to be off a few stitches each time because of the yarning over and knit 2 together adds and deletes stitches?
Ms. D, I just watched your video on the feather and fan dishcloth but you did not mention how many row repeats are needed and when to bind off. Is there a border before binding off? This Information would be helpful!
You can bind off when the dishcloth is the length that you like. The number of rows will depend on the yarn and needle size you use. There is no border
Hi there I'm just a beginner and very new to knitting after finished what could this be used for and how many rows would you knit with this pattern please
You can use this stitch for a blanket, shawl, scarf, a tea towel and more! It’s a versatile stitch. You’ll need at least 4 rows to complete the repeat, but best results are from completing at least 12-16 rows in my opinion
I am trying this pattern in the round following instructions very closely but I keep ending up with more stitches than what I start with. I get that the number of stitches stays the same= the k2together removes 6 stitches and the yarn overs creates 6 stitches. Why are my stitches increasing?
I've been casting on 324 stitches and messing this pattern up for over a week now. I just figured out why it was adding stitches for me. I don't know if you've got this worked out yet but, here's what the pattern is: Cast on multiple of 18 Knit across Purl across K2tog x3, (YO& K1 x6, K2tog x6) Repeat () across to last 6 stitches K2tog x3
Double check to make sure you follow the repeat to a T. If you are doing the repeat (k2 tog 3, Yo k1 6, k2 tog 3) correctly the decreases and increases will cancel out. If you follow the repeat fully you will be doing the k2 tog step back to back making 6 k2 tog in a row not just 3. Just make count to make sure there is an decrease for every increase or they won't cancel out and you will have 6 extra every repeat. Hope this made sense :)
Hi, I used multiples of 18 stitches so decided on 72 stitches & doing exactly as you say but instead of the knit 2 together 3 times at the end, I've got those 6 stitches where you knit 2 together before instead of the end so instead I'm left with 6 stitches where I have to yarn over knit 1 6 times for the end, I don't understand why I've checked all my stitches for the 3rd row and nothing is wrong, is this normal for 72 stitches?
Love this pattern, but I keep ending up with more stitches than I started with in spite of diligently counting my YO's. I see others have had this problem. No good answer!
If there are extra stitches then it’s likely that you’re adding in an extra YO. At the end of every row 3, count up the stitches to ensure that there are the same number as what you started with. You can also add a lifeline after row 4 so you can rip back to it if you add more stitches later. Here’s a video on lifelines: th-cam.com/video/LPc0ns8hby4/w-d-xo.html
@@ERIN478 I'm thinking that instead of going back to the beginning of the repeat K2TO3x, I'm continuing with the YOK16x. If that makes sense. I can't wait to get home tonight to test my theory.
Why oh why, time after time, do I reach the end of the pattern row with only 3 sets left? I have started over about 6 times and it keeps happening! 54 sets to start.
if you mess up a row here.. how do you undo the damage? i'm looking at your video tutorial now.. but feather and fan looks so complicated to 'think' ahhhh!
@@sheepandstitch thank you! i will use this moving forward.. but.. i'm unsure how to save all of my hard work, now that i've messed up part way through? it seems so complicated to tink the rows now, with the complicated wavy pattern and thin yarn.. it's hard to see where the stitches are!

You are teacher of the year in knitting 🧶 Started knitting when COVID started and learned to knit through video’s. I’m so happy I found your video’s and I have learned so much from you! Thank you so much 😊

Davina, I am making a blanket with this pattern. What do you recommend is the best way to cast off when I am at the length I want?
A regular cast off would work fine. Try to cast off with a loose hand and the scalloped edge will lay flat nicely. Good luck!
When stitching row 3 do we have to YO in between the regular knitting and K2tog? I keep losing or adding stitches?…
Hi,
This looks beautiful. For a small baby blanket for perhaps a car seat size, how many stitches should I cast on? Thanks

If there are extra stitches then it’s likely that you’re adding in an extra YO. At the end of every row 3, count up the stitches to ensure that there are the same number as what you started with. You can also add a lifeline after row 4 so you can rip back to it if you add more stitches later. Here’s a video on lifelines: th-cam.com/video/LPc0ns8hby4/w-d-xo.html
@@sheepandstitch Like many others, I'm getting extra stitches, too, but am being so careful to do only 6 YOs, no extras. I'm baffled.
@@ERIN478 I'm thinking that instead of going back to the beginning of the repeat K2TO3x, I'm continuing with the YOK16x. If that makes sense. I can't wait to get home tonight to test my theory.
Okay, my theory was correct. Whew! Just follow the pattern in the asterisks and you'll be fine!
If decease stitch three n increase Six wil make 12 so is it not increase original stitches ?
The full repeat is " k2 tog 3x, YO k1 6x, k2 tog 3x" there are 3s at each end making the 6 to cancel out :)
What would happen if i was to knit 3 together but only make 2? Instead of K2tog 3 times i would do K3tog 2 times?
the ends of the project would be smaller
I have tried to knit this pattern FOUR TIMES and each time I end up with three stitches that don't fit into the pattern. What am I doing wrong?
I'm doing it now with a practice swatch with 18 stitches, I'm in row 3 & I'm at end with 3 stitches left, don't know what to do ????
suffer because you have not counted correctly
Why oh why, time after time, do I reach the end of the pattern row with only 3 sets left? I have started over about 6 times and it keeps happening! 54 sets to start.
Not 3 sets….3stitches!
try with 18 stitches as a practice
if you mess up a row here.. how do you undo the damage? i'm looking at your video tutorial now.. but feather and fan looks so complicated to 'think' ahhhh!
I messed up row 3.. after doing hours of really good work!
🙈 I would insert a lifeline every few repeats. Here’s a video on how to do it: th-cam.com/video/LPc0ns8hby4/w-d-xo.html
I have a very important question. Is it really mandatory to use long tail cast on for rib stitch???
I don't see why either way wouldn't work. When in doubt do a test swatch 👍
@@anneb598 thanks a lot .I am a beginner and I have seen the use of rib stitch a lot. So, I was wondering a normal cast on should work for practice for a beginner like me.
I got more stitches, like 63 when I finished 4th row
oh no! something has gone wrong!
Nice
nice
Can you use circular needles for this pattern
Yes you can knit in the round with this pattern. The instructions are different for knitting it flat. You can find the instructions in the blog post in the description
You are teacher of the year in knitting 🧶 Started knitting when COVID started and learned to knit through video’s. I’m so happy I found your video’s and I have learned so much from you!
Thank you so much 😊
My stitches keep on growing. I started with 36 but now they are 51. Dont know why?
Make sure you are following the full repeat ' 3, 6, 3'
So that you are doing enough decreases to cancel out the increases
When done with the full repeat you will have the 'k2tog 3x' happen 2x back to back
Hope that made sense, Good luck! :)
HELP! i dropped a stitch at the end now i know how to fix it in normal simple patterns like knit purl but this one got me panicking please I need a salvation the dropped stitches are testing my patience and as a crocheter its making me hate knitting T-T
