I absolutely love how almost every clip of footage you show is specifically engineered to show off something unique about the games in question - Not everyone knows about the Superbounce, or the rings in the back of Final Egg, or riding atop the elevator (or jumping underneath it works too for speedruns), or switching between the further rails in Planet Wisp. It makes watching a vid about music more than just... listening to some words over the music I love. Intriguing picks, too, but of course, everyone's list will be almost entirely different. Sonic has great music - we all agree - but almost none of my top ten were on here and I think that goes for everyone.
Rooftop Run is incredible. It still gives me the chills after all these years. Sometimes I go back to watch the original trailer since it goes so incredibly well with the music.
Sonic literally had his peak game of the entire series set up with '06, then Sega flipped the table and made the devs skip optimization, then skipped the play testing beyond the level being beatable, making fun physics, and not having a loading screen between every interaction.

Sonic Utopia's Green Hill never gets old. 10. Windmill Isle (Day) - Sonic Unleashed The violin is so lovely all of the time. And it perfectly encompasses what Sonic Unleashed is to me, and defines the sound of it perfectly. Especially for the folks who repeat played the demo ad nauseam. (bonus) 11. Toxic Caves - Sonic Spinball Such a funky little melody that works incredibly well as a loop and it's seriously hard to get sick of.
It's too bad that you haven't played a game called "Golden Sun" and "Golden Sun: The Lost Age" (a sequel) during your gameboy days... The music, art style, storyline, character, mechanics... Every aspect about these two games from the moment you put the cartridge into any gameboy from the gameboy series to the credits of this game... Is so impeccable... Here's my favorite level music from each game. Sonic 1: Spring Yard Zone Sonic 2: Emerald Hill Zone Sonic CD: Stardust Speedway present JP. Palmtree Panic bad future JP is a close second. Sonic 3 & K: Flying Battery Zone. Ice Cap is also a close second. Sonic Adventure: I can't decide between Red Hot Skull and Be Cool, Be Wild, Be Groovy. Sonic Adventure 2: Green Forest. Sonic Lost World: Sea Bottom Segue (If you didn't pick this one your wrong) Sonic Mania: Lava Reef Zone Sonic Forces: I haven't played it myself yet and the only music from that game I remember is Fist Bump, the Metal Sonic fight remix, and the remixes of Supporting me and White Jungle. Also who could forget that "wonderful" classic Sonic music!
I was gonna say that the jukebox in Sonic Frontiers probably influenced an entry or two in this list, but that game wasn't even out at the time. Pretty cool that Frontiers actually has some of these bangers.
I’ll be honest…I’m shocked that you didn’t choose Aquatic Base or Kingdom Valley Mach Speed. But you know what? This is a great list! I love hearing you describe music in video games like this. You definitely help me feel the music.
I think I'd have to go for some combination of... What U Need - Sonic Rush, Emerald Hill Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Cool Edge (Day) - Sonic Unleashed, Chaos Angel Act 1 - Sonic Advance 3, and Vengeance is Mine ...for Radical Highway - Sonic Adventure 2. Just off the top of my head without listening to every single Sonic level theme, at least.
I have to give you so much props for you to be able to do this list at all. There are too many good songs in these games to not be able to pick only ten. I struggled to even pick these for myself. 1. Modern Crisis City (Generations) 2. Kingdom Valley: Water ('06) 3. US Stardust Speedway Present & Bad Future (CD) 4. Egg Fleet (Heroes) 5. Dragon Road Day (Unleashed) 6. Eggmanland Day (Unleashed) 7. Final Fortress (Heroes) 8. Aquarium Park Act 1/4 (Colors) 9. Jungle Joyride Day (Unleashed) 10. Sunset Heights (Forces) Honorable Mentions: Wave Ocean: The Inlet (06'), Radical Train: The Abandoned Mine (06'), Pyramid Cave (Adventure 2), Flame Core: Volcano (06') Radical Highway (Adventure 2), Savanah Citadel Day (Unleashed), and Jungle Joyride Night (Unleashed)
I actually loved the story even though sonic's story was.... bad But silver and shadows were AMAZING. And the soundtrack was awesome but the boss battles...
Here’s my list (not in order) On the Edge - Eternal Engine (SA2) Jungle Joyride - Day (Sonic Unleashed) Ocean Palace (Sonic Heroes) Aquatic Base - Level 2 (06) Flame Core - The Cavern (06) Wishes in the Wind - 4-4 (Frontiers) Cool Edge - Day (Sonic Unleashed) Mr Unsmiley - Sky Rail (SA2) Be Cool, Be Wild, Be Groovy - Ice Cap (SA1) Mortar Canyon (Sonic Forces)
WOW did this bring back happy memories, and nostalgia aside your voice is perfect for this sort of thing! Enjoyed the change of pace stepping outside rotmg while still upholding high quality. also I'm curious what recording setup do you use for the crisp sound quality? lastly just want to say I'm looking forward to what you do next!
One of my favorite and what I think is very underrated is Nullspace from Sonic Forces . Sonic is all about intense action and electric guitars it's easy to forget that , when the series does solemn music they do it fantastically
Ranking from my favorite level soundtrack 1-10 Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 2006, Sonic Forces, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Colours, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Generations, Sonic Lost World.
I would be hard pressed to narrow my list down to ten and will probably have to consider it greatly, but I do need to state that the intro to Planet Wisp 1, with the combination of the visuals and the music, LITERALLY moved me to tears the first time I played it.
Look up Demetori if you want similar music. It's a fairly popular Japanese indie band in the touhou community. I can't really explain the music other than instrumental with an amazing guitarist. I just thought I'd share this hidden gem because this video reminded me of their music.
Personal top 10 list (including bosses as they are also kind of levels): 10. Splash Hill zone - Sonic 4 episode 1 - unpopular opinion, but despite the game being absolute poo comparing to other 2D style Sonic games, the music here was really pleasant, especially the first stage, which basically tells you that your journey just begins. 9. Green Hill zone - Sonic the hedgehog (It is catchy and iconic) 8. Metal Harbour - Sonic Adventure 2 7. City Escape - Sonic Adventure 2 - tied with classic remix for it. This music slaps! The lyrics are catchy and inspiring and it fits the stage well. 6. Planet wisp - Sonic Colours - the music, that super accurately tells us that the planet used to be peaceful and happy until the machines appeared. And the beats just literally point out that you have to save this peaceful planet from being conquered by Eggman. 5. Rooftop run classic mode - Sonic Generations (aka Philza theme or Everybody's rooftop run original soundtrack) 4. Tropical resort - Sonic Colours - as Sonic 4, this level literally tells us that your journey begins. And it also fits the environment where Sonic is present. 3. Silver/Shadow the hedgehog boss - Sonic 06 - the theme that perfectly represents your rivals as a huge threat to your journey. Their music is intense and you have to deal with them quick 2. Crisis city modern mode - Sonic Generations - As intense as crisis city should be. The flame is perfectly represented by intense violin sounds. And it constantly intensifies its sound as you progress further. 1. Solaris phase 2 - Sonic 06 - THIS is how all final boss soundtracks must sound. Intense, hard and incredibly serious. Definitely has this feeling that this is your Final boss - the cause of all problems!
I don't know about my top 10 because, like you said, it is extremely hard to decide. But my absolute favorite has been Speed Jungle Act 1 ever since SEGA released it before Superstars came out. Tee Lopes does it again.
My favorite sonic song is sonic colors Im gonna reach for the stars (Listen to it) you probably have though :P Or knight in the wind i love thoes to so much chills for days :P and never forget Sonic Generations City Escape
When he played Rooftop Run I literally thought to myself "I hope he has Wave Ocean: The Inlet" in this vid, and then to my surprise it started playing 5 seconds later 😂
You should read some audiobooks. You've got that articulate, deep tone that's pleasant to listen to :P My top 2 are What I'm Made of from the final boss of Sonic Heroes or the main theme of Shadow the Hedgehog, although I'm not sure if you'd count that?
These are all really good choices but I honestly feel if I had to pick a favourite track from each of these games I'd probably go with a very slightly different one -- even though most of these would still be high on my list. For Black Knight especially, though, every time I listen to any collection of tracks from that game I have to listen to Dragon's Lair too... it's just the most... dragonish... song I think I've ever heard. The plodding 7-string rhythm and drums sound more like something out of Doom or Quake than Sonic, and the orchestral parts have a sense of immense barely controlled power... I know the game doesn't actually do anything like it but the song makes you feel as if you *are* the dragon. And I think with Sonic Heroes I've gone through a few favourites but finally seem to have settled on the theme from Rail Canyon, the track that just captures the overwhelming sense of hurtling through a harsh and spectacular vista always being just a hair's breadth away from lethal danger. Plenty of songs in the series capture the sense of going fast but Rail Canyon is the one that feels like you're going so fast you're out of control.
My list, in no order Windmill Isle ~ Day (Unleashed) White Acropolis ~ Snowy Peak (06) Prime Time ~ Studiopolis Act 2 (Mania) Metallic Madness Present JP (CD) Rooftop Run Act 1 (Generations) Aquarium Park Act 3 (Colours) Lava Reef Zone Act 1 (3&K) Quartz Quadrant Present JP (CD) Dragon Road ~ Day (Unleashed) Stardust Speedway Bad Future JP (CD) Since it’s a knuckles game I won’t count it, but The Door Into Summer from Chaotix is legendary too
I tried doing a couple videos on some other steam games, but it wasn't going well at all. I just wasn't feeling it, doing a solo commentary, trying to think of things to say, nothing was working. So I want to stick to either scripted videos, or group commentaries for now.
In no order 1. Final Fortress - Sonic Heroes 2. Launch Base Zone - S3K 3. Metallic Madness Bad Future JP - Sonic CD 4. Transparent Highway - Sonic Frontiers 5. Red Hot Skull - Sonic Adventure 6. Wacky Workbench Bad Future JP- Sonic CD 7. What U Need Blazy Mix - Sonic Rush 8. On The Edge - Sonic Adventure 2 9. Arid Sands Day - Sonic Unleashed 10. Bingo Highway - Sonic Heroes
what is bickuribox12 got his name when he was 12 and he had an argument with a friend named bick and he told his friend that he is in a box so he made a youtube account to mock his friend and he wanted to name it "bickurinabox" but he forgot to type "na" and then he got 26 thousand subscribers so he just went with it.
Mechanical Resonance... for Final Egg (SA1) Windy and Ripply... for Emerald Coast (SA1) Stardust Speedway Act 1 (Mania) Metallic Madness Act 2 (Mania) Flying Battery Zone Acts 1+2 (S3&K and Mania) That's the Way I Like It... for Metal Harbor (SA2) Ocean Palace (Heroes) Aquatic Base ~Level 2~ ('06) Savannah Citadel - Day (Unleashed) Aquarium Park Act 2 (Colors) Honorable Mentions: Rhythm and Balance... for White Jungle (SA2) Haunted Castle (Team Sonic Racing) Dragon Road - Night (Unleashed)
I'll be telling you my favorite Top 10 at a later point, but right now I just wanted to say that I'm surprised that there was no music from the classic Genesis titles here. I'm not saying the modern games don't have great music, it's just that I prefer the classics. Oh well, opinions differ I guess.
Okay, here's my personal Top 10 of Sonic stage themes: 10. Cool Edge (Day) - Sonic Unleashed 9. Chemical Plant - Sonic Forces 8. Aquatic Ruin Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 7. Hydro City Zone, Act 2 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles 6. Flying Battery Zone, Act 1 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles 5. Prison Lane - Sonic Adventure 2 4. Studiopolis, Act 1 - Sonic Mania 3. Desert Ruins 1 - Sonic Lost World 2. Oil Ocean Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 1. Lava Reef Zone, Act 1 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles
I can’t believe sonic colors was so incredibly mid for an entire game, and then decided to have one of the best levels in the series’ history as its last
Here’s my list (in no particular order)…
- Eggmanland (Sonic Unleashed)
- Tropical Jungle (Sonic ‘06)
- Stardust Speedway Bad Future [US Version] (Sonic CD)
- Black Comet (Shadow The Hedgehog)
- White Jungle (Sonic Adventure 2)
- Levitated Ruin (Sonic and the Secret Rings)
- Asteroid Coaster (Sonic Colors)
- Mystic Mansion (Sonic Heroes)
- Crimson Crater (Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity)
- Final Factory (Sonic Free Riders)

That's a good one too

When he played Rooftop Run I literally thought to myself "I hope he has Wave Ocean: The Inlet" in this vid, and then to my surprise it started playing 5 seconds later 😂
Flame core over wave ocean?
That's the Way I Like It is only bittersweet because it's over XD
Can you make a rogue guide for ROTMG? I need help with it and I'm sure lots of other people do too
not me reading the title and thinking you meant *enviornmental* level themes like beach levels and snow levels,,,,,
Why so many dislikes? If you don't agree that's one thing, but to go out of your way to click dislike? Seriously?
You should read some audiobooks. You've got that articulate, deep tone that's pleasant to listen to :P My top 2 are What I'm Made of from the final boss of Sonic Heroes or the main theme of Shadow the Hedgehog, although I'm not sure if you'd count that?
I was leaving vocal themes out since they belong in their own list. Those are 2 of my favorites too.
Cool.. NOW DO A VIDEO ON TOP 10 DYNASTY WARRIORS THEMES.
I actually might do that myself.
PYRAMID CAVE!!!!!!
One of top 1 Sonic songs.
My favorite is a tie between Keys the ruin, Flying Battery act 1 and Dreams of an Absolution (Yes I know it’s not a level theme but still)
could you do a shovel knight play through?

First Last reminds me of ChaseFace and NerdwordEntertaiment

I tried doing a couple videos on some other steam games, but it wasn't going well at all. I just wasn't feeling it, doing a solo commentary, trying to think of things to say, nothing was working. So I want to stick to either scripted videos, or group commentaries for now.

What about city escape
I categorize that as a vocal theme and preferred to keep this video about instrumentals.
I'll be telling you my favorite Top 10 at a later point, but right now I just wanted to say that I'm surprised that there was no music from the classic Genesis titles here. I'm not saying the modern games don't have great music, it's just that I prefer the classics. Oh well, opinions differ I guess.
Okay, here's my personal Top 10 of Sonic stage themes:
10. Cool Edge (Day) - Sonic Unleashed

I can’t believe sonic colors was so incredibly mid for an entire game, and then decided to have one of the best levels in the series’ history as its last
Terminal Velocity? One of the best levels in Sonic history? My friend Terminal Velocity is the definition of a straight line.
@@Neo-Metal17but it’s the coolest straight line you’ll ever see
@@jackhumphries1087 Yeah but one of the best levels in the series is a stretch
@@Neo-Metal17 fair, it may not be the best, but it is one of the coolest
