with the latest firmware version you can format it via Bluetooth by your phone ;) I think that the other big issue with the missing recordings that you are talking about has been addressed as well in the latest firmware 1.2 : -Added a function to enable formatting the SD card inserted in F2-BT using F2 Control app (for iOS/Android). -Fixed a bug that audio files were not created when recording in rare cases. Did you test it out?
I've used this the past year (probably like 30+ times) and never had this issue. The one thing that happened to me is that I found if you flip the switch over to "hold" too quickly it doesn't keep recording. Since I realized that I force myself to do a ten count after hitting record and then a ten count after switching over to hold. Since I've started doing that I haven't had an issue. Another fun thing I've been doing is using the "out" to plugin a DJI mic so I can monitor it and bake it into my camera footage. Obviously on a wedding I don't do both, but for interviews and some commercial work it's super handy. Also, I loved the 32 bit so much I sold my H4n and bought a tascam x8. It's tasty.
Oooooh I bet you anything that’s what we’re dealing with! Because it is sporadic.. could be that we’re flipping to “hold” to quickly sometimes? Dude thanks for the tips 🙏🏻🙏🏻
The original firmware had a glitch, that if you turn off the recorder before you stop the recording it does not save the audio. If you update the firmware this takes care of the issue.
It’s super weird, I’ve updated to the current firmware and it still does it every so often, which is the weird part. I don’t turn it off before it’s done writing even (when the record light stays on after you hit to end recording) And the weird part is most of the time if I just record a blank track on the recorder afterwords I’ll plug it back in, and the track that wasn’t there before suddenly appeared. Very odd.
My buddy does wedding vids as well, he usually does tests like long recordings, loud rooms, button checks and I think he said the one issue he had was that if you hit record and flip to hold really fast or even if you flip to hold, hold off and hold on again then you can have some issues. Other than that he loves it. He did say the BT was the way to go if you’re interested in these.
Ooooh that’s really good to know thanks for the tip!!! Someone else had mentioned that they wait 10 seconds before switching the hold switch over, I’ve tried it the last few times and it seems like it solved the issue!! 🙏🏻
This thing is an absolute beast. I use to mic up the groom during the ceremony and since it's 32 bit I can pick up the bride as well when she does her vowels. And then in post, I can just raise her voice up and do voice isolation and it sounds like she is mic'ed up when in reality only the groom was mic'ed.
Right?! SUCH a gamechanger! We had a wedding this year where the officiant had an F2 on and I lazily just used his mic for all 3, and it sounded great 😂
Graham, if you use a line in from the DJ/Band, you can use the "Sescom Attenuating Line to Mic Cable" comes in xlr, rca or 1/4" this will prevent over modulation.
my unit records between -34 to -47 dB on the person that is mic'd up. Is that everyone's experience as well? With the tascam dr-10l, most of the time I dont even need to normalize the volume. I understand with 32 bit you can raise the volume w/o raising the noise but it's an extra step to add.
Yea same experience BUT! If I remember correctly when you plug it in to your computer and open the app, I believe you can adjust the rec. level from there if I’m not mistaken!
@@Louie-ty6bh ahh bummer! It definitely is an extra step. I mean if you’re using 32 but float you’re usually sweetening etc anyways, not a deal breaker but just a few extra clicks hahah.

Thanks for the review. When you're connected via bluetooth to the mobile app, can you still use the physical record button on the Zoom F2 to start and stop recording? Or is that button disabled when the device is connected and controlled by the phone? I ask because I like to use my phone for monitoring only. I want to start and stop recording with the Zoom F2 button.
@@greyhousevisual Ah ok thanks, another review mentioned that the other buttons (the buttons with white markings on them) were disabled during app control. Seemed odd to me but also made me wonder this. Thanks for letting me know.
The likelihood of that kind of thing having an effect on this, or anything else, is so close to zero that it should not be tried. Rather, I'd suggest seeing a mental health prof, that kind of thing sounds like a compulsive behavior type issue you might want to check.

@@clavadetscherfoto Well, you're welcome to think whatever you like, but you know what they say about repeating an action expecting a different outcome... I've worked as a computer tech for years, so I'm not basing what I say on made up stuff when it comes to these things. Sure, I'm taking a tone that is less than friendly, but it is because your advice is less than helpful in that it might make others think that doing the exact same thing repeatedly expecting a different outcome is in some fashion logical - it isn't. It may have seemed to work for you, but I can guarantee that if it did, it was not because you did as you described, something else happened. This means that following the steps you did is unlikely to yield the same result on another computer and card somewhere else. Further, repeatedly formatting cards without reason isn't something that should be suggested since it puts unnecessary wear cycles on the flash memory which has a limited lifespan, doing so a couple of times isn't an issue but doing so over and over for a long period of time may well become an issue.
Coming back from an important shoot to realize there is no audio can make your cheeks slam shut so tight you can't fit a germ between them. My first time using the F2, I didn't realize I had the auto shutoff set to 30 minutes. Felt dummer than a box of rocks for that one....
We only use the non-Bluetooth version and that’s where we came across the issue! A few people have said if you switch the “hold” switch too quickly it stops recording, and also apparently has been resolved via firmware, but I haven’t had a chance to test it yet
Experience going from Zoom H4 to Zoom H5 ...no recording. Zoom H4 was click and go. Just like a cassette recorder. No hidden mysteries. Zoom H5 you first have to arm the recording channels/inputs, red lights will indicate that the channels are armed. Than you press record and a red light indicates that you are recording. The counter ...remains zero. and after 2 to 3 seconds it suddenly starts to count the recording time. This is the prerecording. What can go wrong? a. not arming the inputs. b. you see the light of the inputs burning red so you think it is recording. c. you see that the counter is not counting so you press again the recording button to "activate" the recording however while it does prerecording this will stop the recoprding. Summary. you have to do a step by step approach and check every step in stead of pushing a few buttons or watch till a red button light and than go.
Ohhhh it was the step by step approach that solves the known bug gotcha! Thanks for the help and the assumption that I didn’t check the input indicators and just pressed a bunch of buttons! Summary. Sorry for the sass lol.
