    Seeing this video makes me miss my old 954 that I sold like 10 yrs ago. Had the most fun with that bike, the power was insane! And wheelies on just power alone without popping the clutch.

    New 954 owner here. I road sport bikes and nakeds before I got a Harley Street Glide. A few years on the Harley and I really miss something sporty, so in my search and research I found an 03 954 with 25000mi for about $4500. Went out a couple times and it’s a blast. Wanted and older sport bike that was reasonably comfortable for the street and before everything went extreme track focus and a bunch of added electronics. Looked towards Honda for the reliability and quality....hello 954.

      Watch the block between cylinder 1&2 as some of the RR3s were known to crack.

    • @kmfiz
      @kmfiz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Real RRDemon Thanks for the info RR. Do you know if the steering headstock that was recalled on the 02’s were corrected on the 03’s?

    • @TheRealRRDemon
      @TheRealRRDemon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never saw that recall.... 46k no issues here (rr2).
      The bad case alloy was enough to make me seek out the RR2 over the RR3

    • @kmfiz
      @kmfiz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Real RRDemon did they change the alloy strength or something for the 03?

    • @TheRealRRDemon
      @TheRealRRDemon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my wee bit of checking they switched the company that was making the cases sometime during the RR3 production... they were not as good for quality.

    I've had my 954 for a little over 2yrs and she now has 84k on her and running great..I'm just about to replace the EGCV with an eliminator..The kill switch on mine had to be replaced since it was worn..I've replaced the stator and rectifier once and so far so good..I would not trade this bike for anything..In planning on getting another bike and keeping this one for weekends..

    • @p5slider
      @p5slider 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @p5slider
      @p5slider 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Real RRDemon what I've found is to replace the egcv with an eliminator.. My current stator and rectifier have about 60,000 miles on them and they're still strong as ever.. The coolant reservoir will eventually need to be replaced.. I've never done a valve adjustment and the cam chain tensioner is just fine too..954's are one bike that almost never need the valves done...

    Good, video! I’ve been riding my 954 since new in 03. It was a track bike for 5 of those years. I’m not sure what your opinion is. I would like to add that this bike in all its glory is a monster. By that I mean the power band on the 954 is so aggressive it be comes almost dangerous when your pushing its limits. It took a lot of tuning and upgrades to get the bike to level out. This also takes care of your light front end. Considering the front end on that bike is heavier than most comparable it’s actually the torque and power that brings that wheel up.

    I've always said my 954 felt lighter than my 05gsxr750... and i just replaced the start switch on my 954, had it internally jumpered until the new switch came in, ive got an 03, that seems to have had some of the same issues, I live in biloxi and as of this comment I work and have my 954 for transportation to and from work in Fayetteville NC, the fireblade makes a great looking, fast, did I say fast, think more like rocket ride. I've had very interesting reactions to much older sport bike guys up that way, anyway there is a sportbike mechanic up in spring lake not far from where I stay in Fayetteville that ill be taking the 954 to look over as ive been the only wrench turner since ive owned it, and there were some unknown serious issues with the bike that I found as I started trying to update and service the bike. I'd just feel better having someone more experienced than my whole 2 years of ever owning a bike self, look it over in preparation to make the long drive back here to the coast. On returning to the coast ive heard you talk about doing you're own service, but as ive actually found a place in Sumpter SC for parts, have you found anything down here local MS, AL coast as a resource for parts? Anyway if you actually make it all the way to the bottom here I would be interested your tales of woe on this particular scooter.

      I usually order from motosport... there is a local dealership.. but they charge typical dealership prices.

    In the modern day, the GSX-R750 is arguably the spiritual successor to this 954. After full tuning (ex, ecu, filt), the 750 makes 140 whp peak (~160 hp crank) and with the loss of weight with full exhaust, you'd be sitting around 408 pounds. Chop another 6-8 pounds with a full Ti M4 system. Kudos for Suzuki staking with the 750cc size over the years, in spite being a very small company with financial struggles.

    i just bought a 954 that was a little abused. 14,800 miles. it had been laid down but all the fairing damage was replaced. I thought it had a valve tick, well i found out its actually piston slap, that was due to the design of the piston skirts being small and thinner than others. And unfortunately if its not well maintained and the oil level really being paid close attention to, it is prone to happen. I am assuming the bike may have ran for a minute or two after it was laid down and this happened due to oil starvation. Its a real shame and a bummer for me taking the first step on my fireblade journey to end up with a shit bike. I like the bike its super lightweight in the corners and has fast acceleration, but now has me debating if i want to spend a couple grand to rebuild it

      I thought mine had a slapping piston etc. Terrible up and down chopping sound from cylinders and stuff...Clutch sounds chopping noises... I changed my oil out to proper Amsoil metric 10w40 with some liquimoly bike additive, and the pistons and engine are completely silent! 4000km into oil change and still silent and running like a animal, oil still has goldish colour. Just sharing.

      Educate me. The 1992 CBR900RR was the first bike with the given name Fireblade. It was the same rough size of a 600/750cc class but, instead, was powered by an 896cc engine. Later replaced by the 919cc engine. Again superceded by the 929cc ('00-'01), the 954cc ('02-03), and terminally (thus far at least) by the 999cc in 2004.

      Don't get me wrong, irrespective of the money spent, it's really a great bike. Ticks all the boxes of my requirements and is old school tech, which I grew up on. I'm not anti electronic tech, as they are a great addition to modern bikes, just prefer the old way.Just got a couple more things I want to do then I'm done. Will post full specs on the org. when done. Like you, on a mission to shed weight and increase the power. Will get it remapped as well, next year, as I think It's a bit on the rich side.
