    Turns out I have the same problem on a project car I have just bought. Great video, thanks....... I just need to find a disc now

      I do wonder if some cars have these missing from the factory. It is a strange part to be missing. I am glad it helped.

      @ccuk mine had had cables replaced, though why they would remove the disc I have no idea, but then the car had other faults caused had missed by so-called Jaguar specialists.
      Doubt it would be missing from New as it instantly faults when moving stick to left.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. I just got an '01 xk8 and I have a similar issue, my selector indicators blink all the time from park to drive and won't even let me shift past drive to manual. Plus I think it's kinda slow for the v8 it's packing, maybe I'm just expecting too much. I love the car regardless. Yea and I got restricted performance on the dash too, I don't know if I'm supposed to be panicking lol.

      Thanks for your comment and congratulations on buying a great car. Your issue is probably the Linear switch on the side of the assembly. That is the best place to start. The contacts inside it usually get dirty. I tried that first and then found that I had a part missing.

    Thank you for this great video. I've got a similar problem on my 1997. i get limp mode and the words "GEAR BOX FAULT" on the dashboard but no check engine light and no code. Was it the same for your car, car crush UK?

    • @ccuk
      @ccuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't get any message on my car. I have read on forums that doing a hard reset (disconnet the battery and holding the terminals together for 30 seconds) has been known to solve simiar issues to yours, It might be worth you searching Google for this.

    As others have said - you are a brave man doing all that with one hand! Thank you.
    I am puzzled - was yours an intermittent fault or permanent?
    I am wondering how the micro switch was being activated (if at all) without the "missing" disc?

    • @ccuk
      @ccuk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fault was permanent. The micro switch was never being activated due to the missing part.

    I am assuming that the missing 'plastic plate and spacer' were a PART OF the Shifter Unit. I have checked with the SNG Barratt Group regarding an actual part number but they are unable to help. The operation of the Plate would clearly indicate that its part of the overall build,,, if its missing and/or broken then presumably its a part that is replaceable. Would the best action be to contact Jaguar direct for details of a replacement...? Anyone help please...?

      I could not find it for sale anywhere or the P/N. I think you are correct that it is part of the J Gate assembly. It might be worth asking on forums to see if anyone has a spare. That is how I got mine.

    Nice repair. Must be very happy with the result. Who removed it and put it back together with it missing ? Regards Damian

      @ccuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was so happy when I found the problem and also the help and advice given by the XKEC club forum. I have a full history with the car but cannot find anything that suggests it had been apart so I dont know.

    • @ccuk
      @ccuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was fortunate to chat with someone on a forum that had a spare. I don't think it can be bought separately. I understand is comes as part of the J gate assembly.

      Yes it should apply. I believe the design is similar and they share the same gearbox.

    A cool hack I'm going to to try is to replace that knob head with an 8 ball, I think it'll be cool since its an xk8. ;)

    • @ccuk

      I have not seen that before on an XK8. It will be unique !!

      Yea thanks will definitely do that as soon as I sort out the blinking shifter indicators. Speaking of unique things, i did a side pipe conversion already looks great and sounds like a beast but sadly crawls like a snail. Just having fun, hope I don't ruin a great car lol.

    What is that part called? Part Number.

    • @ccuk
      @ccuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I don't know what it is called. I have never seen one for sale. The P/N sticker on it was the P/N for the whole assembly. Supercharged = LNC-6195
      Nonsupercharged = LJA-6195. The disc I fitted was found in a shed of parts (someone generous from the XKEC forum) - I think the discs are all the same though as the one I fitted to my XKR had the XK8 P/N on it. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
