I remember hearing it and thinking, God, this guy has such a beautiful sense of melody, I can't believe he's going on adventures saving princesses all the time."

I actually had the pleasure to meet mario back in '93, such a great guy, hilarious too. I remember seeing him kick a Goomba's face in at a concert. Such a great guy. Gone but not forgotten .

That is exactly the same thing I was thinking when I was first listening to his/her rendition of the Nevermind album earlier!
Literally took me back to when i was 12 (14 years ago in 2009) and I had the physical album/CD on repeat in my room lol It was much like a spiritual experience back then; and to be almost completely transported to that time once more is very close to that aswell.
P.S: Not to mention, I had all of the early Mario, Sonic, and hundreds of other Nintendo/Nintendo 64/Sega/Sega Genesis games through an Emulator on PC at that same time; and played them religiously (along with my Gamecube too; ironically lol) God I miss those times....

Agreed. Sometimes you get so used to a song or album, you stop noticing the intricacies and other things that make it great. This kind of refreshes your auditory palette.
For some reason in this you can clearly hear how harmonically great it is, even tho it seems as a "simple" composition.

In an interview, Mario talked candidly about his obsession with a story about a mushroom connoisseur who knew the scent of every mushroom in the kingdom. The story famously takes a grim turn as the "scentless apprentice" begins murdering Toads in quiet villages and turns them into delightful Mushroom oils and perfumes which prove remarkably popular. Mario carried a copy of the famous novel, called "Mushfume" everywhere he went.

A bit of story: Mario didn't like the band to go mainstream so he made In Utero; the record company thought he did it on purpose to sound bad, but both Luigi and Link were ok with it. Later, Link found success with his own band. Luigi sadly couldn't forget Mario and spent most of his life surrounded by ghosts.

I don't know how common it is, but that's probably my favorite track on the album, and I'm so glad this is whole albums and not singles because that's the kind of song I'd be disappointment to find out got left out.
That song has always been a personal favourite of mine too, even now about 23 years after I first heard it. I’m a massive Nirvana fan but I came to them about six years after it was all over.

I’m in agreement with everyone on here. Rick Beato stated that he felt Kurt had a sophisticated ear when it came to music. I completely agree. The dynamic song structure throughout all three albums, arrangement of melody and unceasing ability to create catchy hooks that sounded original, yet familiar was uncanny.
people just argue that its just power chords, thats the issue. But he played weird chords too and played power chords weird as well. also his solos were fuckin weird. All in a good way that maintained a pop sensibility.
