Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 9 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have two boys-Luke and Leon plus and a new baby girl named Lyla. Nam is our nanny and she is from Myanmar. Nam has worked for us for nearly 7 years. She was the chef at our restaurant before we closed due to covid.

Sleeping in the same room is one of the safest feelings you can have while you sleep growing up. I loved it.

I agree, that's one of the reasons my husband and I agreed to have our daughter sleep in the same room with us because we were protecting her. We had her at 43 years old, (both my husband and I), so one can understand how we felt being afraid someone was going to take her from her room. She is 12 yrs old now and decided to go to her own room when she was 11 years old. She decided she was ready. We miss it so much.

Just love your family, you’re all so loving and happy. You can clearly tell how much your husband just adores you all ☺️ I’m in Australia and my husband and I sleep in our room, my 18 year old daughter has her own room and so does my 21 month old. No judgement here at all, as a mama myself, I know that you just do wherever it takes to make things work for your family.

We are from Venezuela, and we don't sleep in the same bedrooms, but my brother has begun that habit with his children. I love that you are happy, Lilly. Kisses and blessings to everybody. We always had a family bed till they were comfortable on their own. My children have done the same with their children. For us we believe it gave our babies a secure feeling. In America men go to work. We can not live like thais. Depending where you live we have to pay to heat or cool homes. The North American traction is that every ch has there own room.
I think we all have to adapt to live in smaller places because it becomes to expensive to keep big house’s.

As I am Thai, please let me explain about sharing a bedroom with the parents in Thailand. In addition to the better(?) family bonding, Thais do share a bed room to save on the utility bill. Air conditioners consume energy the most in the house. For my house, it is about 40-60%, quite a lot. When I was a teenager and had my own room, I still slept in my parent’s room on the hot days (35 Celsius) because the air conditioner was only in my parent’s room. At that time, the price of air conditioners was very high (higher than the present day) and not that efficient. It was difficult to get the air conditioner in my room. Moreover, if I got one, my two siblings would also one in their rooms too. They could not afford for the unit costs and the skyrocketed utility bills. In conclusion, sleeping in one rooms will save the earth and money.

I would even put them to sleep in their big room which they shared with their parents. Only when they have slept, do their parents take over and I retreat to my room. That is South East Asian style at its best! We love family and we love children!

Hi Lily, It's good to see you all doing your thing your way. My late husband and I raised four children and we all slept together too. The kids all had their own bedrooms and beds but we used to say they were just for show. 😂 They eventually, on their own slept with us less and less until it was just the two of us. Dr Sears wrote a book titled ' the family bed' that supported it and discussed the emotional and health advantages of the family bed'. I miss those times and seeing you and your sweet family in the early days of your family brings back sweet memories of the best days of my life. It's good to see you taking good care of yourself and eating so healthy. Best wishes from Colorado.

Lilly, We always had the same “unused baby bed” with the youngest sleeping between us. We had three children and Daddy would usually get rooted out of the big bed. LOL. Eventually, during the night, everyone would end up sleeping in their own beds. I was blessed and could stay home with our kids while my husband worked 9 to 5. We had a lively happy, home and loved our kids dearly. We still do, and now our children are all happily married with their own kids. And, to us, that’s what is most important. ☺️❤️( I live in NC in US)

In the Philippines, we sleep together in one room, until our children reaches 10 or 12 yrs old. Lucky if the family has several rooms in the house, we can separate children and have them sleep alone in their own room at maybe 8 or 9 yrs old. But Filipinos homes normally would just consists of 1 or 2 rooms. Babies do sleep together with their parents. It is common for Filipino husbands to also help the wife with taking care of the baby at night or even taking care of the wife with regards to food preparation, marketing, and household management, until the wife is able to recover from post partum. You are so lucky to have Wat and Nam with you!! ❤️

I am from the same cap as him. Wind the kids up so tight that it wears them out and they fall asleep.

I’m from the East of Malaysia (North Borneo). That’s how exactly we sleep too when kids were small ..everyone in one room till the kids are 6 or 7 years old then they move out to their own rooms. It’s also depends how big is your house & how many rooms😅😅🥰🥰

Asian culture is entirely different, being a Srilankas ,we always give probity for cultural n traditional values, when the children are small ,specially we sleep in a master bed room,to pay more attention ,to share warmth n we give priority for children above all ,the strong bond ,love n care is the best thing we value,n we earn it fm early stages, some may agree with me or may not,but we love it in this way.thanks for sharing your life with us happy to see you adapt to our Asian culture.Love fm Srilanka.

It is so interesting to learn about other cultures and their way of doing things. I have been in Thailand on two occasions and enjoyed it so much. As we stayed in resorts it is very interesting to learn more about Thai culture. My daughter will start working as a teacher in Bangkok in May. I am a picky eater and will have to be more adventurous. My daughter loves Thai food. I love watching your videos

I am asian and my husband is white and we tried the whole baby in cot thing at first but it didn't work out. We co-slept with our boys. When they hit about 1 years old and 3 years old, I co-sleep with them in the living room (queen sized bed) as I became accustomed to staying up late whilst the husband sleeps in our main bed (he needs his sleep for work). Once they turned 2 and 4 years old, we have them in a shared double bed and a year after that into their own beds. Never did they gives us troubles with having to go to bed or the dark. They are 8 and 10 now and still no fuss.
You gotta do and sleep what is best for your family, I say.

Philippines yeah we do that too there could be instances, Filipinos are very resilient and flexible, we could sleep together in 1 bed in our own house, relatives house, even hotel we can also share rooms. I don't think it's just a traditional culture thing. I think it's applicable to families who don't have much rooms in a place to sleep in with, or maybe just too scared to sleep solo in 1 bedroom, kids at a young age often would want to sleep with their parents because it makes them feel more secured

Seeing your family at home doing real life things is awesome and as for how do I sleep? Well I live in Kirkland, Washington state and I'm 61yrs old I sleep on a bed that's up on stilts and my grandson sleep under the bed on a mattress and his 13yrs old
My granddaughter sleeps in her room on the floor, she has a bed but doesn't like sleep on one 🤣and my daughter who has her own room sleeps in a bed like mine where she's up 5ft on a platform.
When my kids were little we all slept on a king size bed and I think the way your doing it is beautiful and great for your family.

Why would anyone judge you? It is not their place to. I live in USA and I have slept in a small RV, sleeping bag, a Full bed, a Twin bed, and on just a foam Twin mattress before. I have even slept in a car on a road trip. You make due with what you have and do what feels comfortable. No judgement here. ❤
