The Covenant at peak power possessed at least several thousand CAS-class assault carriers as they could spare enough to devote many hundreds to sufficiently important defense fleets. For almost all of this to annihilate itself in the Great Schism must have been truly cataclysmic.
I think a decent chunk was taken by the surviving Shan Shyuum and another chunk was probably taken by the Banished in the chaos. But the Schism was devastating. Mostly with the loss of Huragok which the Covenant had come to rely on way too much. They couldn't repair their ships, advance technologically, or do much of anything without them.

It was an okay video but you got one part incorrect. The captured covenant ship was deliberately crashed into the station and most of the enemy fleet closed in tight around them, trying to get credit for retrieving the crystalline artifact. This is why the detonation caught so many enemy ships in its blast. Along with the flying debris that tore other ships apart. In many of the halo battels, in particular space battles, there is so much going on it can be difficult to lose track.
Not to mention I don't think he mentions that the whole point of said maneuver was to get as many of the Covenant ships as close as possible to the blast for maximum damage.
Fun fact: Whitcomb has the single highest Covenant kill count of the war. Between. NOt just from this but from a super nuke he tricked them into taking.

two tri fighters ice a wing of ARC 170s in Revenge of the Sith. Also clunky, fat, bomber-looking X-wing wannabes VS the best space superiority fighters in the CIS?
Gigas0101 ARC 170 is a gunship/heavy fighter. A bit like a mashup between an A-10 or SU-25 and a German BF-110 in real life. The ones in RotS were focused on providing cover for Anakin and Obi'won via target saturation (lots of big juicy targets for the Tri-fighters) and blocking attack vectors on the two Actises. Your Halo content never fails to entertain me. I've been a huge fan of Halo since I was a kid and while I love so many of the Halo channels on TH-cam, your Halo content just has that special Eckharts touch to it :D Stay awesome, man!
Spartan vs. N7, Spartans no question. But Alliance Marines vs. UNSC?? Alliance marines would have kinetic barriers, and i'd think that human military engagement doctrine would be the same while Alliance weapons would be on par with UNSC weaponry (mass accelerator rifles, M55 Mako cannons, vehicle borne kinetic barriers). Alliance soldiers would also have armor that is slightly better than a regular UNSC marines armor in my opinion. A few questions would be: do we differentiate between Pre-Covenant War and Post Covenant War UNSC? AND what kind of damage would a gauss round do to a fully shielded alliance vehicle? Because I'd say post Covvie UNSC has a few tricks up its sleeve. And if kinetic barrier is able to tank one gauss shot, then Mako cannon would take out warthog before it could get second shot off.
Samuris27 this idea would just be pure infantry battle ether 1v1, 5v5, or both. What the team make-up and equipment is entirely up to you. Just one rule: no breaking lore to each group
I think I recall this idea from another video. I'll just repeat myself then: 1) System Alliance Marines are so far ahead of the UNSC in terms of personal equipment it wouldn't even be funny. The UNSC Marines would be dealing with guys in more advanced body armor, with shields, and hyper-accelerated projectile weapons that made gunpowder weapons look like peashooters. 2) Spartans vs N7 is the true fun part of the match-up. While Mass Effect has augmentation technologies around (described in ME2 as flavour text), the N7 are obviously not on the same physical level as Spartans. That said, the N7 have numerous means to close the gap from "being obliterated" to "have a chance". The Spartans have the MJOLNIR, but their standard equipment is UNSC weapons. The Spartans would need multiple shots to even begin damaging the N7, much like against the Covenant. During those precious moments, the N7 are laying down much stronger fire, depleting the MJOLNIR's defenses very quickly (in game, infantry weapons can destroy even heavy mechs, gunships and various abominations, all of which with their own advanced armor and shields; the MJOLNIR will never tank such guns for very long). The Spartans can have Spartan Lasers, or bring plasma weapons from the Covenant (that bypass kinetic barriers), but it would be out-of-character for all of them bringing those unless they get prep time, which we're not giving here. But the true wild card is any Tech or Biotic powers the N7 might bring. Cryo Blast, Overload, Adrenaline Rush, Tactical Cloaking, the ragdolling biotics, Stasis and many others would level the playing field. The only part where the Spartans have a clear advantage is melee combat. So Spartans vs N7 gets a 50/50 outcome, highly dependant on load-outs, classes, and battlefield conditions. If the Spartans can think fast upon discovering their enemies powers, stick to cover, leverage their superior strength and speed, perhaps forcing a close quarters battle, they can win. If the N7 bring a balanced team and have a battlefield where they have a wide field of fire, little cover, and plenty of distance to keep the Spartans away from melee range, the N7 win.
I'd say UNSC could win based off how much more large scale combat experience they have accumulated. Though that might come off with a hitch of being placed against human soldiers instead of aliens. I guess it depends on who could get better indirect fire support really? I don't think there is as much information on Alliance large scale warfare, which I recall involving a lot of UAV support(could be quite an advantage over pilot operated since it's compact and precise). I'd bet the UNSC is also more willing to utilize nukes than the alliance would be.
Just a small corrections it was a DDS class Carrier, not a Cruiser, but other then that its a really nice video, im going to guess any other small inconsistencies where just left out/inconsistent so this video doesn't spoil this whole part of the book
Ive been saying since Halo 3 I want a Halo game that starts during the Insurrection and ends with the arrival of the Covenant. Could easily make another trilogy about the beginning of the war.
Crazy to think that the CSO supercarrier "Long Night Of Solace." is 28km, that belonging to the Sh'Wada pattern, and the other canon CSO Supercarrier, the "Sublime Transcendance." is 32km, with an undesignated pattern
Great video, only issue I have is the captured covenant ship crashed into the station prior to the explosion to draw as many of the covenant ships in as close as possible to the station.
"Dear Humanity, We REGRET coming to Earth, We REGRET being alien bastards, and we most definitely REGRET the Core just blew up our raggedy ass fleet! URAH!"

A but of inconsistency with the new vid, the unsc Gettysburg did not have the forerunner slipspace crystal, that was destroyed before operation first strike took place by odst locklear after he cracked and blew it up with several cans of explosive foam
nice breakdown however, this was indeed one of the biggest losses for the covenant, if blue team didnt get rid of this fleet the second earth battle and the battle for the ark would have turned differently as this fleet had most of truth's brutes which he planned for using to fight the elite resistance and any remaining humans he would face once the covenant civil war broke out (yes it was all planned by him), the destruction of this fleet made it possible for chief and the arbiter to finally kill truth and his remaining brutes

Your Halo content never fails to entertain me. I've been a huge fan of Halo since I was a kid and while I love so many of the Halo channels on TH-cam, your Halo content just has that special Eckharts touch to it :D Stay awesome, man!
Spartans vs N7 and UNSC Marines vs System Alliance Marines
Spartans beat N7, Fuck Bionics.
If we include ODST's, then the UNSC wins.
I'll just repeat myself then:
1) System Alliance Marines are so far ahead of the UNSC in terms of personal equipment it wouldn't even be funny.
DARLEK EMPIRE VS THE FORERUNNER EMPIRE.
Please do this one I will keep making this suggestion until it is done.
Respect dude.
Just a small corrections it was a DDS class Carrier, not a Cruiser, but other then that its a really nice video, im going to guess any other small inconsistencies where just left out/inconsistent so this video doesn't spoil this whole part of the book
We need Halo games of Blue Team and the early battles.
Ive been saying since Halo 3 I want a Halo game that starts during the Insurrection and ends with the arrival of the Covenant. Could easily make another trilogy about the beginning of the war.
There was also the time that a Covenant fleet and a nearby moon were completely obliterated by a Nova bomb "stolen" from the UNSC
Nova bolb reminds me of destiny voidwalker super
That was a good book from what i remember, one of the first books that got me into scifi
4:40 You forgetting that the UNSC lost an Admiral too?
Crazy to think that the CSO supercarrier "Long Night Of Solace." is 28km, that belonging to the Sh'Wada pattern, and the other canon CSO Supercarrier, the "Sublime Transcendance." is 32km, with an undesignated pattern
Great video, only issue I have is the captured covenant ship crashed into the station prior to the explosion to draw as many of the covenant ships in as close as possible to the station.
This single battle needs an entire game
Versus: 2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer
I prefer Sgt Johnson’s description of the base; “Don’t look like any elephant I’ve seen. Looks like, two squids kissing.”
This would make an insane spartan ops mission.
For every Halo Battle Breakdown, the outcome will always be, "Master Chief came and kicked everyone's ass."
And Linda, in this case...
Aw hell yeah! Some Halo Battle Breakdown!
"Dear Humanity, We REGRET coming to Earth, We REGRET being alien bastards, and we most definitely REGRET the Core just blew up our raggedy ass fleet! URAH!"
Love your work man, brightens up my day.!
I'm just binge watching all your halo videos bro they are absolutely awsome ❤👌👌
I would LOVE to see a game based on this story.
Worth noting though that we were looking at roughly 80% of Truth's fleet destroged. During the Battle of the Arc, he only had a few dozen ships. Imagine if Earth had been attacked with the same force the destroyed Reach. That battle saved humanity
Also, gonna try again. Captain Harlock vs Commander Shepard, or his Arcadia vs Coruscant Defense Fleet.
Honestly when the UNSC does Spartan Boarding you know the battle is won.
it took place 13 September 2552 which was before the battle of installation 04
Nylund always knew how to write his spacebattle, kinda miss it in the new books
I have been watching you for 6 months and I don't know why I haven't subscribed till now
Viscount Class Star Defender VS 2 of the MALEVOLENCE (Subjagator Class Heavy Cruiser)
38th Try
Eckharts ladder has the best theorie than anyone
I was thinking of RVB blue team interestingly enough.
T-70 X-Wing VS E-Wing!!!
I've been waiting for this lol, ever since I've seen it on twitter
John activated graces armor overload . So it would detonate and active the reactor and that's why they didn't take graces body
I wonder what the covenant would fear engaging more, a flood outbreak or a squad of Spartan 2's.
RIP Grace-093
I finished re-reading this book yesterday...
What a coincidence💯✔
Good Animation Man🌟💯
Here's a fun crossover: Millenium Falcon VS. The Guinevere (From Spacedock's Sojourn)
Hey Ecks!! Just a quick question, can you make a battle breakdown of Vice Admiral Preston Cole’s battles? Not just his famous Last Stand but I mean, it would be awesome if you did more of his work because in my eyes that guy was a genius. Anyways, awesome vids bro keep it up!! You’re awesome!!
Poor Grace. Bisected by a bruteshot. And Master Chief's first run in with the Brutes.
Is it Christmas or what s with so many uploads eck?
He tries to upload daily
.
To fill in the gap between halo 1 and 2,
This book that I read back in 2004, should have been a movie back in 2005 with the Rock playing one of the marines or Spartans, Michelle Rodriguez as one of the marines, and some of the famous voice actors in halo 2 also playing parts as marines/spartans, covenant actors aSpartans, etc. Around the time the Rock's Doom movie came out. So those who didn't read the books at that time when we were all playing Halo 2 , understand what happened between the two games.
THEN later on , in 2006- 2007 a sequel could have been made where the Rock and the same famous actors/voice actors were put into a Halo movie where all the stars from the last film all make it back to earth during Halo 2, witnessing Prophet regrets ship leave earth and the action shows the elites continue to devastate the planet and the middle of the film could have been "pre-Halo Landfall" seeing Truths fleet of Brutes arrive on earth long before Truth himself gets there with Brutes killing all humans AND elites, and the end of the film could have been just as we know it, Halo landfall. A film to hold everyone over Until Halo 3 came out later in 2007.
30 km can be generalized down to 10 miles, I can dig it.
Anyone else think this was gunna be about Red VS Blue at first?
10 miles are aproximately 16 km actually
I believe 1 mile equals 1.609 kilometers
I wish they would make levels for these books or something because even though this is just a small part of an 11 hour book. I wish we could play through this book. I would buy a level like that it’d be epic.
A movie should be made on that event!
Witcomb was a glorious madman.
A but of inconsistency with the new vid, the unsc Gettysburg did not have the forerunner slipspace crystal, that was destroyed before operation first strike took place by odst locklear after he cracked and blew it up with several cans of explosive foam
Whitcomb also died. He was at the helm of the _Ascendant Justice_ when it was destroyed.
nice breakdown however, this was indeed one of the biggest losses for the covenant, if blue team didnt get rid of this fleet the second earth battle and the battle for the ark would have turned differently as this fleet had most of truth's brutes which he planned for using to fight the elite resistance and any remaining humans he would face once the covenant civil war broke out (yes it was all planned by him), the destruction of this fleet made it possible for chief and the arbiter to finally kill truth and his remaining brutes
Yo just to clarify, an Oort cloud is not a small patch of cloud like in this example. It's a cloud that surrounds the entirety of the star system.
Why have I never learned of this mission?!? It's rad
SuperSilver759 it’s in the book First Strike which takes place between Halo CE and Halo 2
