    This happens again after the anime and further into the Manga, where Saitama also befriends King and Blizzard. The relationship between Saitama and King is especially interesting.
    Seeing the spinoff chapters of the four of the casually hanging out quickly made them my favorite superhero team ever.

    I know this is a pretty bad way of coping, but I basically lost ALL my friends once I got into secondary school. I started to get bored having no body to talk to, so I started imagining a world where I actually mattered enough that people would try to attack me. It got pretty bad and I eventually realised, once I'd finally made a new friend, that I'd made myself paranoid, just because I was bored. I'm still trying to fix that, but it's so hard to tell myself that what I'm thinking about is NOT REAL, especially now that I've been doing it so long. It's dumb I know, but hey, this is anonymous so I can actually say things without worrying about anything stupid here.

    I think I have the same kind of depression as Saitama. I am always feeling down not because I am sad of the things due to anxiety but because there simply isn't anything I can do that I can actually enjoy. The closest was playing my guitar but even then I lose motivation. In fact I lose motivation in things I am good at. The problem is I don't enjoy them as I used to.

    • @Chaos89P
      @Chaos89P 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      That's rough, Jack Jackson. I usually have to deal with the seretonin version. I mean I don't have depression myself, even thought I have a motivation issue. That might be more an Asperger's Syndrome thing, though.

    • @deBail111
      @deBail111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Jack Jackson I think I'm in the same boat as you. During a rare time, I'll get really invested in some activity, probably because of that adrenaline surge Lockstin was talking about. But then the next day, that activity starts seeming as useless as anything else. What I'm trying to say is don't worry, because you're not alone in this.

      I wouldn't say I'm really depressed, seeing as I'm still pretty young and probably just having identity problems, but I do feel the similarly you. Video games, memes and TH-cam are pretty much the stem of my happiness outside of family. Not much else makes me feel appeased, in fact, doing things like sports makes me feel uneasy.

      John Remmers saitamas body is horrifyingly efficient, so he shouldn't lack any adrenaline (considering how much energy would usually be required to utilize all that strength, there is also the fact that he doesn't need to breathe more than your average guy which is proff of his body's efficiency).

    Yo Lockstin can you analyze Saitama's psychology in the recent tournament arc in the manga (maybe when it gets the anime adaptation)?
    -spoilers-
    He was bored and wanted to learn martial arts so he joined a martial arts tournament. He found himself fighting a really impressive martial artists (who was hyped up and has character development) and fought him to learn martial arts so he can be alleviated from being bored. After defeating the martial artist (obviously) Saitama was like 'that was it?'
    The interesting part is that the defeated martial artist wanted to be Saitama's apprentice, but was denied since Saitama has Genos already and doesn't want 2 apprentices.
    How can this fit into the theory/psychology? Wouldn't Saitama want more people to be around to not be bored anymore?

    I think your explanation of Serotonin-deprived depression and Dopamine-deprived depression really opened my eyes. I DO feel apathetic and unmotivated, I feel forced to drink excessive amounts of caffeine to the point of addiction, and I have gone to my doctor with these concerns. But I was prescribed with a Serotonin-focused drug rather than a Dopamine-focused one. May talk to my doctor about this, thanks a million.

  • @konoyarogaming6774

    This honestly makes sense. I have a high functioning depression and can easily relate. I don't get excited like others over things I like, I often didn't feel caring if I died or lived (Which is how I got over my fear of the dark when I was younger ironically) but if I died helping someone else progress I would be content just like Saitama when that young child.
    Then I finally met someone I could talk to. Someone who wasn't afraid of who I am and just meeting people I liked I felt normal. Though with social anxiety being a bit of an introvert I never want to actively seek it out, I'd just go to places people were just out of boredom.
    Saitama just perfectly embodies that and more. He never actively shows his lack of hope for anything but his actions prove otherwise. He cares more about other people than he dose himself and is willing to take on everyone's hatred just so people don't die in vain, people don't loose faith in others, just doing it all for the greater good as just a hope to fill an empty void.

    The thing Lockstin said at the near end about boredom left unchecked is basically Boros's case. Being an infamous space pirate with massive power made him bored so he conquered even galaxies, but was immensely got curious upon the prospect of a worthy opponent from the prophecy he was told. He did think it was just a means of people keeping him away but he was still very interested on the belief that someone would actually beat him. But I don't think Boros has a Genos-like character to keep him grounded, but simply a case of contentment boredom.
    As for my ways of not getting bored, I just simply develop a new hobby. Luckily, I do have friends that keep my grounded but I do have chronic bouts of boredom that did lead to borderline apathy. But somehow, my appetite for new knowledge and application of that knowledge like writing and filmmaking does keep the boredom away.

    I really disagree with the thought that Saitama is "depressed." A lack of dopamine can lead to depression, that doesn't mean a lack of dopamine means you're depressed. Saitama is bored when fighting monsters, but he still enjoys mundane activities like any mentally healthy person. There is a huge line between simply being bored (like Saitama) and being depressed. He's always been asocial, that has nothing to do with his strength.
    TL;DR Saitama isn't depressed

    Don't know if this is related, but; I saw once in a hystory channel documentary, that lazyness is somewhat rooted in sadness or depression. An experiment was done on some students that claim they had a huge hard time doing homework due to laziness, so they gave them anti depression meds, and they reported a significant decrease on their laziness.

    I am so happy to see that you tackled such topic!
    It's an irony that One Punch Man was an idea as a parody and then a nerd like you can looks so deeply into such fictional character with in-deph analyzis. that's why you're my no 1 TH-camr when it comes to games and fictional characters! :D
    "notice me Lockstin" haha, I see what you did- I wonder, how many messages you get from your fans, but I hope you have read this.

    @Locksin and Gnoggin it'd be all sorts of awesome to see you do one of these for Ben Tennyson. There's a ton of fun psychological aspects you can use, like his use of humor to distract himself from what would happen if he fails to his feeling of worthlessness when the Omnitrix gets destroyed.

    When i was younger i went through several phases of just being bored with everything i did even the things i did to fight the boardem just brought more. the only reason i'm out of that phase is because i had forced myself to enjoy the game even if i was feeling board regardless of what i really felt and after 2 weeks of doing this constantly it worked.

    I read the manga for One Punch Man and in season 2, it talks more about this and you end up feeling so bad for Saitama. I personal think he has Emotional Numbness also, awesome video because I learned something new about boredom!

    My takeaway from this - "They haven't changed. Only the stuff around them has." To truly enjoy life, you have to change yourself. That's just what I feel.
