- So-here;s a pretty intensive intermediate level video for all you bass peeps- it touches on the following hot topics: Jazz Turnarounds, Rhythm Changes, the Blues Scale- and a Jaco lick! Wow! That's a LOT of territory! I talk about an effective way to navigate thru a classic III VI II V, use of the blues scale, and even a cool blues lick Jaco Pastorius used on a Joni Mitchell album. Scroll thru to about the 11 minute mark for a slow run through of the turnaround line again...

Thanks 'Phil'. This helps "dust the rust" off my chops.
Thank you for the slow-brain explanation also!
You're welcome!
Thanks, Phil!

Daaaaaaaamn Rufus! This was awesome Just what I needed today :)
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for making this tremendously useful video! Even though i’m not that good at english, it gives me a lot of help to develop my imporvisation.
Glad it was helpful!
Very cool, as always.👍
Thanks Eugene
Great ideas. Good for us jazz pianists/guitarists to see how to make some changes on bass (which I have to play myself to record). Cheers!
Glad it was helpful!
great content
Thanks Darryl!
WAY above my level, but inspiring nevertheless!
This is the real stuff. Just wondering how to achieve such a wondeful tone on the bass.
For me personally, I checked out and transcribed and played along with a lot of sax and trumpet solos and also guitar..I found that helped me absorb some phrasing and tone ideas: Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Coltrane, Cannonball, Mintzer, Mike Brecker, Metheny, Scofield etc
It’s hard to see on video, but the action on your basses seems pretty low. Yet, it doesn’t sound like that. Can you tell something about it? Thnx!
Yes I can-it's not super low- I would say medium. Plus I use 45. to 105 gauge strings -LaBella nickel rounds -I don't change them a lot, preferring a darker sound so I can play reasonably hard. Apart from when walking-when I often play over the edge of the' board..and a little lighter plucking
