- The Brandos - “Partners,” German television, 1993. This appearance was just a small part of the extensive, exhausting touring that happened on our second album “Gunfire at Midnight,” from the fall of 1992 through the summer of 1993. We went back and forth between New York and Europe so much during this period that I used to refer to myself as the “Jet-Lag Kid”… I don’t remember how or why this tune was chosen for a TV appearance, but I’m very glad it was. The lyric was one of several given to me by Carl Funk earlier on that didn’t end up getting used on the first album. I’d kept in a file and when it came time to start writing for our second album in 1991, I dug this one out and it seemed like its time had come. The music and melody came pretty quickly, and in arranging it, I came to recognize it more and more as my attempt at a Spaghetti Western-type theme song. This was also when I began playing traditional instruments such as the banjo, mandolin and lap-steel guitar which I recorded on the track. The video was one someone recorded on an old VCR from their TV and then uploaded to the internet, and consequently it has a raw quality to it, which I think kind of ads something cool to it. The audio was out of sync and I was able to replace this and get it to work better with the visual. We hope you all dig it.. Available on most streaming and download services.

Partners (Lyric by Carl Funk, Music by Dave Kincaid)
Mister did you come
In search of water
I'll bet you're thirsty
Wrong or right
How'd you like
To be my partner
Mister will you ride
With me tonight
There's a house
Upon the hillside
The people there
Ain't no damn good
They've got gold
And they've got silver
I'd like to have it
If I could
Chorus:
Feel that wind
Feel it blow
There's worse than stealin'
When a man
Is tired and cold
You know my life
Has been a nightmare
I won't bore you
With the news
But I can sum you up
By lookin'
I ain't no hungrier
Than you
Hey friend, sorry
That you're dyin'
I didn't know
He had a gun
Such a shame
To leave you lyin'
But you know I've
Got to run
You know the law
Has got a long arm
I've been around
I know it well
But if they're ever
Gonna catch me
They'll have to chase me
Into hell
Feel that wind
Feel it blow
There's worse than dyin'
When a man
Is tired and cold
