This record is so underrated, during the guitar instrumental they are all soloing, it's just a magnificent song both in composition and lyrically, they were so so talented.
One of the best album with Rush, and if you liked this you will LOVE "Middletown Dreams" from this album! Be sure to sit down, when it starts, because you will stand up when its over ;) R.I.P Neil Peart.
I think this may be the weakest tune on the album and it is still great. The break (is there a good word for three simultaneous solos?) is a full on Rush burn. Not expecting much love for this comment ;)
some older Rush fans didn’t accept this “new” sound.. but Power Windows went platinum within 6 months of release, and they packed Madison Square Garden and a bunch of other big venues on the tour.. so many catchy moments on that album… I had it on cassette tape 🤘🏽😆🤘🏽
Men of music feel the soul. Emotions, "true" emotions, must be felt and expressed. Those emotions controlled by fear can be very negative. Rush clearly understands how emotions function in our lives. You guys are great. Thank you! 💙
Neil saw this Republican shitshow coming from a mile away. In the years before his passing, he called out Republicans repeatedly by name on their cruelty and hypocrisy despite supposedly being the "Christian" party.
This is one of my favourite songs by my favorite band, RUSH and I loved your reaction! I love your reactions! You're lovely, guys! You're very appreciative about the beautiful music and lyrics. This is a very emotional song, it's punchy and dreamy/atmospheric at the same time! Only Rush can do that! And that guitar solo from Alex (like many solos of his) sounds like an eagle flyng, specially on the second, dreamy part of it. So beautiful!
You both nailed it! I used to listen to this on my Sony Walkman 11 when it was first released. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Rush have the ability to convey emotion and tell a story through their music. To me the beginning of this piece sounds mysterious like everyone is trying to figure each other out. Then Neil joins them all together with the 4 pulse on the simmons electronic drum & the sustained note on Alex's guitar. Geddy starts the melody on the keyboard & Alex plays an arpeggio to accompany him. Rush continue to build throughout the song in a gradation until when the explosive triplet introduces the chorus"Right to the heart of the matter" No shame in shedding a tear in this one dude, I still cry every time I hear it. It's pure elation. Thank you both for covering it.
this is so good. Rush is so good. Sometimes speechless about their quality of songs. Forever my favourite band. And i love the enthousiasm in your reaction videos everytime. Keep up the good work😁
Watching you guys react to this song and other Rush songs brings back the joy I felt when I first listened to them. This would have been one of the last songs I would have ever wanted you to listen to because it was never one of my favorites. But listening to it today with your reaction to go along with it, made me enjoy the song more than I ever have. To see someone light up like you guys did as the song progressed, was priceless to me. Enjoy the rush rabbit hole.
My understanding is that he felt overshadowed by the synth and it pushed his expression... it's everywhere in these albums from Signals through Hold Your Fire.
Love you guys. Never under estimate yourself. I did and I lost years of not playing. In my opinion it is the easiest trap to fall into. You guys win With music. Thankyou both.
Yeah. This was an era that some core Rush fans were bailing out on them. I always saw the brilliance in everything they do. This was a great tour. They really nailed the songs off this album Live.
Just finished watching all of your reactions and found them very gratifying in regards to my all-time favorite band. I guess I was seeking validation of my intense love for this band. As a non-musician I could tell they were talented.
I have always said that this album has Alex's best and most creative guitar parts, because he needed to work around the keys. And I stick by that! Awesome stuff! However, Middletown Dreams from this album is the best!
As a guitarist in a band that primarily covered Rush, I will tell you that this whole period of Alex's playing was basically untouchable. His earlier songs that everyone loves, follow certain structures and patterns that another person can emulate and predict, then he entered the mid 80's and all bets were called off.
I’ve been playing guitar for 30 years and I agree 100 times over. Signals, Grace Under Pressure, and Power Windows are not everyone’s favorites, but as a musician and overall music lover, I can objectively opine that Alex reached a certain apex in that period when his composition, where he sits in the mix, how the solos cut through and elevate the song, the balance between simplicity and technicality, all perfectly blend together. The man never writes a boring guitar part. Phenomenal albums and production.
Yup, and I think the only the reason Alex wanted the keyboards gone, is because he couldn't be arsed anymore. He basically wanted to smoke dope and plays riffs like from When the Wind Blows. :/
Bro. I looooove your reaction to this song. Your partner was IN it, too. Made me emotional listening and seeing how you were both taking it in. Beautiful song with a tremendous amount of impact. And I hear you. That bass drum hits hard. Super punchy and quick. Very appropriately titled, yes?
Everyone with a sense for music and a sensibility in the heart loves those Rush songs. There is just no way one can not like this quality of lyrics, singing, arrangment and everything. It just bring tears in my eyes everytime I linsten to.
This was always one of my favs from Power Windows. On this album Neil was exploring the rhythms of Asia, Polynesia And all of the bells, gongs, thunder sheets, and bass drum sounds that have a long ,long, ambient decay.i can't think of any other rock drummer that delved into Chinese and Korean traditional rhythms and sounds. it was really only Power Windows and Hold Your Fire where we hear this in Neil's approach. He was innovating constantly.
Alex's chordal and arpeggio work along with the textures and effect on the guitar are fu,, unbelievable, never heard another guitarist come close to this level of sophistication.
This was never performed live because Geddy said it was too difficult to play live with all of the sequencers and synths…. It’s one of their greatest songs ever written.
In 1975, Kiss took Rush, among other bands, on a 30 or 40 date tour with them so I'm sure Kiss was feeling the pressure of superior musicianship from Rush, even though they famously got along on that tour. God how I wish I could have witnessed one of those shows!! Ted Nugent floated around on that tour also...
You two have to react to Cygnus X-1, so long it's in two parts on two different albums, especially part 2 that is the entire A side of Hemispheres, an 18 minute tour de force on Rush's most technically difficult album of their entire catalog. 😊
One of my favorites on my favorite album. This one and Hold Your Fire, as well as Presto, contain some of Neil's best lyrics imo. "Sometimes our big splashes are just ripples in the pool", and then on Territories you have "Better the pride that resides in a citizen of the world, than the pride that divides when a colorful rag is unfurled"... fucking Neil... jesus christ, does he nail the poetry on these songs!
Anagram (for Mongo) is a song nobody else could have written. Every line is a word puzzle, but it also all works as a song. Neil was absolutely killing it with the lyrics in this period.
The Alex solo starts out great and then it keeps getting better and then when the rest of the song comes back to accompany the solo but the solo keeps going and going and it's still so fitting and spot on... :) Sublime and for a very tender subject and sometimes tough lyrics too.
Power Windows is my personal favourite album out of all of Rush's albums. This particular song is my personal favourite out of this album and in my top 5 of Rush songs of all time. Yes, not everyone loves this song, but everything about this is peak 80's Rush at this point, while still sounding like Rush. Great reaction!
Love your Rush reactions! You need to do the following Rush songs; “Mission” off of Hold Your Fire, “Losing It” off of Signals, “Available Light” off of Presto, “Headlong Flight” off of Clockwork Angels, and “Nobody’s Hero” off of Counterparts.
I agree 100% those are all incredibly important for you to hear. I like the song don't get me wrong but if you're blown away by this just hold onto your hats there's so much more good stuff to come for you❤
Sono italiano,e penso che Power Windows sia una delle pietre miliari del genere rock/New Wave. Pazzesco! Ritmi, Tematiche, atmosfere!! Uno dei migliori album e lo riascolterei tutt'ora
That’s a hook AND A HALF for sure. Neil has said, and I second it, that A LOT of Rush songs would’ve/could’ve been #1 chart hit singles if SOMEONE else done them, cause they’re just too weird.😂🤘✌️🖖🎹🎸🥁🎤🥇🇨🇦🎼
C'mon .... sometimes our big splashes are just ripples in the pool...Neill wrote so many poetic f'n killer lyrics like this....followed or preceded by a jam session in the middle of a "pop rock" song....these guys were on another level wow.
That solo section is completely on fire. They let go of the radio friendly restraint and unleashed their pent up instrumental virtuosity. I felt like Alex was battling the synths for the midrange over multiple albums and while I feel like Counterparts was where he finally won that fight, Power Windows sometimes floaty guitar soundscapes produced some of his best solo work. Emotion Detector, Between The Wheels (Drop D Rush!!) After Image. He was melodically in the zone every time.
Good on you guys for covering this LP (hope you will, or have covered HYF as well). I am a VERY long time Rush fan. For too long, the synth-era LP's (Signals, GUP, PW, HYF) have been misunderstood. Alex Lifeson might have been unhappy about the change in his musical role, but it was during that period that he created a style of playing that was completely new, and profoundly influential for future guitarists. Progressive guitarists often avoid textural work; preferring overt displays of virtuosity. Lifeson created a new approach. He was as the nimble right hand of a pianist, dancing elegantly over the upper register. I cannot emphasize this enough. He changed the way guitarists viewed the instrument.
I know they've done tons of good songs, but this is my all-time favorite song from one of the best rock records of all time. This songwriting is absolutely fantastic. I listen to this song almost every day and it just never gets old.
You guys have to do ..“ The Necromancer “…..it will blow you away ….hopefully in a good way …Alex is kind of soloing through the whole thing …a somewhat weird dark song with a Sabbath feel …til the end part…..
It's very poppy sounding song, but the complexity takes it to the next level, all era,s of rush equally appeal to me. Your reactions to rush &opeth are fantastic,my 2 favorite bands.
I remember my older brother (drummer, could play Rush songs!) getting me this CD for xmas. It was and is a FANTASTIC album. You're so funny and awesome dude!
Underrated song from an underrated album. The next album was very good and in a similar vein too but Power Windows has something really special and Emotion Detector was instantly one of my favorite songs of all time.
My surface is mirror like, because my waters run deeper than most. Hands down...I credit this to discovering Rush at the tender age of 12. 1977. It was a very good year.
I was waiting for it. I knew the dude would go crazy when the snap of the open hit hat came into play. I wasn't disappointed. It's hard to hear at first, but he says, "Illusions are pain painfully shattered, right where DISCOVERY starts."
These songs do still sound good (this song was released in1985) but to be honest, these are 'average' Rush songs. They always sound like this. Well, not like this per se, their sound changed a lot over the years. :-) There aren't many clunkers in the Rush library. I'm really enjoying seeing you relate to and react to Rush. I can't get here fast enough when it's the two of you reacting to more Rush.
This is such a good album. Very different from the early stuff...but still very fantastic music. This entire album is awesome... its a shame it isnt considered one of their best....because it is.
This record is so underrated, during the guitar instrumental they are all soloing, it's just a magnificent song both in composition and lyrically, they were so so talented.
This record is out of this world. The live versions of some of the tracks are my all time favorites.
power windows anything but under rated to rush fans bud.. epic album
One of the best album with Rush, and if you liked this you will LOVE "Middletown Dreams" from this album! Be sure to sit down, when it starts, because you will stand up when its over ;) R.I.P Neil Peart.
Power Windows is a brilliant album! ❤❤❤
Indeed it is
I agree. It’s my personal favorite Rush album. Everything about it is incredible, imho.
Power Windows is my favorite Rush album -- and this song is in my personal top 10 Rush songs of all time. I just love it.
Alex's tone on this album is my favorite. And has some of the best solos he has done.
I’m a sucker for the tone on Hemispheres or Jacobs Ladder.
This Record Is One of their Best!
Its Unique!
This sound is their own!
Men of music feel the soul. Emotions, "true" emotions, must be felt and expressed. Those emotions controlled by fear can be very negative. Rush clearly understands how emotions function in our lives. You guys are great. Thank you! 💙
Great reaction as always. The lyrics on this album are so relevant today, especially Territories, Middletown Dreams ad Big Money.
Neil saw this Republican shitshow coming from a mile away. In the years before his passing, he called out Republicans repeatedly by name on their cruelty and hypocrisy despite supposedly being the "Christian" party.
Neil had a way of writing lyrics that are timeless. Relevant in the past, relevant now and will be relevant in the future.
One of my top 5 rush songs. It was so great to see you two react so wonderfully to this. We connect so I've subscribed!
There is literally not a bad song on power windows. Great reaction is always.
This is my favorite song of all time from any band and I feel like it often gets slept on, glad to see y’all reacting to it and enjoying it so much
Here are my top 3 Rush songs:
Hemispheres - Hemispheres X-1 Book 2
Counterparts - Animate
Power Windows - Emotion Detector
No lie. Best band ever!!!
This is one of my favourite songs by my favorite band, RUSH and I loved your reaction! I love your reactions! You're lovely, guys! You're very appreciative about the beautiful music and lyrics. Yet another song that proves that Alex's soloing is the emotional heart of Rush.
Alex's band 👍
Alex's work on these middle albums when he was "searching for his space" is unlike anything else ever recorded. It's just brilliant!
My understanding is that he felt overshadowed by the synth and it pushed his expression... it's everywhere in these albums from Signals through Hold Your Fire.
Glad you love Rush. They had me when I first heard them in 74. Each Album was a musical adventure.
this was when they were as sharp as a razor, the floating guitar riffs over the melody are amazing
I wonder if Alex was channelling his inner Johnny Marr with those verse arpeggios.
“Sometimes our big splashes are just ripples in the pool.” Epic.
If you like this song you'll love Marathon!!! This is one of my favourite Rush albums. This tour was good too!
Love you guys. Never under estimate yourself. I did and I lost years of not playing. In my opinion it is the easiest trap to fall into. You guys win With music. Thankyou both.
That hi-hat work from Neil at 5:04 is so sick! I mean really from the guitar/band solo break on is phenomenal!
Yeah. This was an era that some core Rush fans were bailing out on them. I always saw the brilliance in everything they do. This was a great tour. They really nailed the songs off this album Live.

Arguably one of the better songs of their synth era - an underrated gem.
Nothing like what you would expect from them, YET TOTALLY what you expect from them.😳🤯👍👌
This was always one of my favs from Power Windows. On this album Neil was exploring the rhythms of Asia, Polynesia

RIP Professor Neil. The most underrated and underappreciated band and lyrics in rock history
beautiful song! Love it!
Alex's chordal and arpeggio work along with the textures and effect on the guitar are fu,, unbelievable, never heard another guitarist come close to this level of sophistication.
EXCELLENTE !
IMMACULATE!
FABULOUS !
This album is my favorite 😍
This was never performed live because Geddy said it was too difficult to play live with all of the sequencers and synths…. It’s one of their greatest songs ever written.
Love u guys keep on doing it
This is why a book that I have titled "Bands Better Than Rush" is full of blank pages.
In 1975, Kiss took Rush, among other bands, on a 30 or 40 date tour with them so I'm sure Kiss was feeling the pressure of superior musicianship from Rush, even though they famously got along on that tour. Thank you for appreciating the lyrics! IMHO, these are some of Neil's most heartfelt introspections.

Lyrical genius

She says it all at 6:49 "that was RUSH" 🎤 drop, goodnight Cleveland 🤘🏼

Amazing track.lyrics, bass, drums and guitar solo coming together as one.

I love how your wife kept reaching for you and touching you. "Right to the heart of the matter, right to the beautiful part."
Super! BRILLIANT! RUSH is surely a GREAT BAND.
My favorite album from rush ,music personified and definitely phenomenal 😊
Another fav Rush song. Another brilliant Lifeson-solo. But, take a minute and listen to Geddy's bass during that solo. Killing it.
That solo section is completely on fire. They let go of the radio friendly restraint and unleashed their pent up instrumental virtuosity. What song I regret Rush not playing live for a 1000 Alex? Emotion Detector.
It's very poppy sounding song, but the complexity takes it to the next level, all era,s of rush equally appeal to me.

Hands down...I credit this to discovering Rush at the tender age of 12. 1977.
It was a very good year.
Love ur guys reaction !!!
The greatest Trio in progressive rock history😮😅😅😅
I fking love this tune!
My favorite rush member changes 9-10 times per song. They all shine at different moments.
I was waiting for it. I knew the dude would go crazy when the snap of the open hit hat came into play. I wasn't disappointed. It's hard to hear at first, but he says, "Illusions are pain painfully shattered, right where DISCOVERY starts."

I was just 14 in '85. I felt like I had happened upon a pot of gold listening to RUSH. I'm like, "How can everyone know not about this?"
it's slick, intense and totally missed by everyone!!
Driving through the quiet nights listening to RUSH and wondering whats going on in peoples lives. Heartbreaking Love.
This is such a good album. Very different from the early stuff...but still very fantastic music. This entire album is awesome... its a shame it isnt considered one of their best....because it is.
Can we talk about GED’s bass shredding tho
Celestial song!
It hurts to think about how you think you’ve done something grand, and no one else even sees or recognizes what you’ve accomplished.😢
Love this album!
Power Windows is pure genius…🤘
Every interlude part of Rush song is quite great but I think this song's interlude part definitely is in my top 5 of all Rush songs.
Alex liefson my favorite guitar player ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same feeling dude!!!!
07:19 They keep doing to me every time since early 80's, when I first heard then 😉
The last line of the song exemplifies what it means to be a RUSH fan.... "Our Feelings run high...."
that chorus is 🔥! Always been one of my favorite deep cuts.
.... sometimes our big splashes are just ripples in the pool. Man was a genius
Feelings run high…❤
The Alex
Solo. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you !!! It’s ridiculous!!!
For me 74-82 is Superior because musically and Geddy’s voice are at their very best!
My favorite album of all time.
My favorite Alex solo
Power Windows is a great album. 80's Rush! Check out other tracks from Power Windows, trust me, you won't be disappointed 👍👍
I LOVE Power Windows! Nice choice!
