I just noticed there's a typo on the plan! The 3.75" elevation marks on the switchbacks should actually read 3.25" to be consistent with a 3% grade. Oh well, I'll fix it on the website.
I was pastor/missionary to the Arizona corner of the four corners, up against the Chusca range at Lukachukai, AZ. As a Franciscan missionary, I have also assisted at several Pueblos in New Mexico before administrative duties moved me in a different direction. Beautiful country in Northeastern Arizona. We often referred to the area as God’s Country!
Great job as usual Dave! I think the only way you can top this layout would be to find a few hundred acres of desert and construct this in a “ live steam” scale so we could sit on the trains and ride through the layout with you 😂
Dave, your creativity knows no bounds! I don’t know when you find time to sleep! Can’t wait to see this plan implemented. I love the flexibility to both run trains and do some challenging switching operations.
Really like the new plan. I has the opportunity to be both a work of art as you can do and the ability to just sit back and run the trains. One last thought, I happen to think that re-imagining and rebuilding parts of a layout are half the fun. I find myself doing it to mine as I get new ideas. Keep up the good work.
Wow, you have really brought all these separate projects together into a real complex working layout. Am interested in the dumbell and roundhouse sections, and power isolation on the return to the mainline.
Hello Steve, thank you very much for your amazing On30 channel! However, I will miss the cute 0n18 on your new main layout 😢 But I fully understand your decision and I am exited to see that you start a project with grades! I personally think that inclinations add a unique spice to a layout, specially with all the horizontal lines of the rock formations. I can’t wait to see your next episode!
I like the new plan! This probably isn’t a new suggestion, but if you put in some sort of reversing circuit you could have a train shuttle between Never Mine and Rainbow Ridge
Wow now it looks like Thunder Masa is complete with everything you wanted Raven Wood Manor, train yard with turn table and the switch backs you talked about! Awesome!🎉 is this Thunder Masa 3.0!
Very discreet on that sign for the AC love the plans keep up the good work, i’m learning a lot from your information you give out I’m going to try to get into model railroad N scale. I thought about it for the longest time.
You are a fantastic modeler. I love the new design and cant wait to see it in action. Hopefully at a open house as I just live down the hill in Phoenix. Great work.
Much prefer this plan to the last one, the new Thunder Mesa town is fantastic and I love the engine shed area and turntable! Yards and roundhouses are always my favourite part of model railways :D
I'm delighted the switch back section is still in the plan. I am still hoping for a saw mill to produce railroad ties and mine timbers. I appreciate you sharing your hobby/obsession
I like your style Mr. Dave. Looking forward to watching the process. Here lies Lester more - Boot Hill. 🙂 Glad your using a switchback for grade increase. Your Artistic side is inspiring the Artistic side of me. Thank you.
You never cease to amaze me Dave! The model RR bug has once again bit me after watching several of your old videos! You have inspired me to blow the dust off all my On30 locos, kits, and boxes of rolling stock and scenery and start drawing up a new track plan for the PEARL & LEAF RIVER LUMBER Co. and a yet named Turpentine operation hear in deep south Mississippi… Lots of old growth yellow pine timber and cypress swamps to run a “narrow minded” RR thru… Just watched your new video this morning at 4:00am and heading out fishing for flounder and speckled trout. I’ll keep you updated on my progress with the layout… 🕷️
Really good stuff, Dave. This feels a lot more 'exciting' than the previous outline. From an operational perspective, have you considered any of the following: - Taking advantage of the newly available space to enlarge/ease the curve at Geyser Gulch Trestle? You might finally be able to run locos with longer wheelbases than 4-4-0s! (EDIT: Just saw you explaining your thoughts on this in another comment, so feel free to treat this question like the sign on the A/C unit suggests!) - Including a run-round or passing loop at Big Thunder, to make it easier to shunt and arrange cars coming and going between the Mill and Rainbow Ridge? This could also be a visually pleasing place for northbound and southbound trains to pass. Aesthetically, it is a bit of a shame to lose the Rio Frontera running past the depot at Thunder Mesa - that area, with the depot and Fowler's Landing squeezed between river and town was one of my favourite parts of the 'old' layout, as it made the railroad feel like it was part of its fictional environment rather than hugging close to the edge of a parallel baseboard. That said, seeing the return of the Circle D Ranch and Walt's Barn is really exciting. The newly revised/enlarged Coyote Canyon is surely going to be amazing, and great fun to see you building it! Congrats on the successful move, and here's to the next iteration of the TMMCoRR! A toast, good fellows!
Loving the new plan and the story that goes with it. Excited to see it all come together. New builds to learn from. 🤠Thanks for the ride. GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
Looks great! I knew you'd change it to suit the new site. The A/C could be Furnace canyon. Hot wind is always blowing in the summer. I had to get on the A/C band wagon.
Wow this is going to look really cool. Hope you put a camera on one of your cars when you get your line running and gives us a ride. Love all the ideas.
I think you nailed it with the new plan. Some great potential for visuals. Interested in how you will handle the switchbacks. Tricky scenic wise to me. PS: Stop showing that Disneyland map. I bought one as a kid, lived on my bedroom wall for years. I lost it during one of the many moves in my 20's.......... THX
I love the pueblos area (Taos?) and the “ancient Native American ruins” (Bandelier?) and they way the layout ties in both real and not so real (Disneyland) places.
Looks great! Now, somewhere on the way to Santo Poco and that plethora of piñatas, Will there be a singing bush? I suspect the Invisible Swordsman may be prowling about, unless his body’s imprint is still visible in the sand.
I think you should vent it so it creates some sort of hot air feature in the geyser area. Adds another level of realism. I’m kidding. Or perhaps a station stop called Air Conditioner… Actually I love the sign!
Love it. I have N scale, so not sure what I can do. For now, I've built my bench work- two 80-foot hollow door layout, in an L shape, with KATO UniTrak. I have a small yard, allowing for operations and continuous running. No scenery planned yet. Hopefully, will upgrade to DCC someday.
Dave, I've been following your work since early in the construction of the original layout. I don't remember where I ran across your work (maybe Railroad Line Forums?) but followed your old blog regularly. I think you were building Geyser Gulch when I first saw your work. Are your original layout posts still available somewhere on the web? I seem to recall posts that were from before the first extension from back when you were in your original studio (maybe in the Verde Valley?). Sometimes I like to go back and look at the origins of a layout over again. Anyway as always your work is both educational and inspirational. I love the new layout plan, especially the switchback section. I also like that Verne's buildings made it into the new layout. His floral foam buildings always both inspired and annoyed (because they were so much better than anything I could do) me. Well done. Now... about that AC unit...
While I know it isn't apart of of Disneyland, but any thoughts of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue at Pioneer Hell making an appearance on the layout? Or at a minimum their stars' wagon pulling into town?
Beautifully drawn plan and interesting concept, as always. But I'm going to place my bet now that you never build the switchback. You said it yourself - you're more a structure/scenery builder than operator and what is a switchback if not an operating feature? The ratio of track to scenery/structures in that area is pretty skewed to the track. But no matter what you decide, it will look cool, no doubt.
I love your new trackplan. I love On30 but unfortunately there is very little left to buy. I ask for On30 at my hobbystore and all I get is dumb looks.
I have sort of a technical question. How do you scan your large track plan drawings into your computer? Do you have a large format scanner? Take the drawings to be scanned somewhere? Scan on a smaller scanner and piece them together in photoshop? Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it!
@@ThunderMesaStudio Thanks for the quick response! That’s how I do it too. I just wanted to see if maybe there was something else I should try. The “photomerge” function in photoshop is great for automatically stitching them together. Thanks again for all your great videos. I look forward to each episode!
A/c, what A/C? It's your railroad, and what a railroad it is. Only comment, and just a friendly comment. I'd round off the sharp corner at Geyser Gulch.

Love the track plan! A nice utilization of the space. Seems like a decent layout for 2 people to have fun on.
Just gotta love that imaginary tour!
Love the operational aspects that you've come up with along with the amazing scenery! Great work and glad you're taking advantage of new space!
Can't beat the turntable/loop representation of two locations for increasing operational possibilities.
The presentation was dead on for a Disney one, nice job.
Somewhere deep in the secret labs of Disney, Imagineers are jealously drooling over Dave’s newest track plans..
Dave, your creativity knows no bounds! I don’t know when you find time to sleep! Can’t wait to see this plan implemented. I love the flexibility to both run trains and do some challenging switching operations.
OK... Blows my mind, I really am enjoying this channel...Thank you so much...

👍 it's getting better & better. Can't wait to see it being built. Good Luck.😊
Wow, you have really brought all these separate projects together into a real complex working layout.
Am interested in the dumbell and roundhouse sections, and power isolation on the return to the mainline.
Thanks. There's a couple of ways to do it. The easiest would be to isolate the balloon loop and have an auto-polarity switching circuit there.
@@ThunderMesaStudio can't wait to see your final details!
Brilliant new design. Much more operation potential.
But what about the AC wall unit? LOL. I like the plan and looks like it'll be fun to run and build. Looking forward to following along.

Me too. A switchback is one of the ideas I have for my future On30 layout, and I want to see how this one turns out, to give me inspiration!
If I can find room for a small lumber mill, I'll add it there.
Dave, like your new design. Especially the branchline which looks like it will have some very interesting scenery to traverse.

All positive, with only one question -- access to Long Tunnel and the other shorter one in the corner. Sure you got that covered. :)
There will be removable scenery sections for access.
