Thanks for making this. Just watched through a second time as my rear wheel got mashed up nicely by a pothole put out in the road by the Tennessee Department of road works just for me. Found a rim and new spokes so I'll be lacing up the next day or two. I watched when video was first made.... now again.! Awesome and smooth video. Thanks to Cameraman Mike for getting the important shots.
Very Interesting Mike - Really enjoyed this video & i have to say all your videos are just great & You are a great guy ! Stay Safe Mike & all your Loved ones ! - John - Canada .
thank you Mike for explaining this ,like were not a bunch of dummies.I will watch this one over and over to make sure I do it right, thanks again for another great video.Keep them coming.
I've trued plenty of wheels in my 70 years, and this gentleman Mike Has It Down. My bicycles take a beating and need re-laced regularly & trued on my stand. The Superglide has seen many 'adjustments' in its 45 years under me too. My spoke tension gauge is helpful, too. Ringing spokes works too, whatever.
Thank You. All the ways of doing it are legitimate. If you have a nice, true wheel with even torque all the way round, it's a great wheel. Wait 'til I balance one on the channel and we get to find out how everyone does that.
Thank you Mike. That was valuable instruction to understand my laced wheels and was enjoyable, because a good teacher makes learning a joy - !! And you, Sir, Are a good teacher. Shalom
It brings back memories, and years before the motorcycle wheels I used to build and true the wheels in the bicycle store on the English racer you had to Dish the real wheel, that's compensating for the gear cluster. And you are absolutely right it is therapy
This is the most informative lesson to lace and true a wheel. I would especially like to say I agree that close isn’t going to happen. And you have to have patience I thank you for sharing your wealth of information and experience. You know a guy is good when you make it look easy. Thank you and Best Regards Robert S Raper.
Mike, have seen a few video's, on re-spoke and trueing a wheel, this is the best show how and explanation on how to. THANKS Again. By The WAY Nice wheel.
wow your a master of tuition mike i would never of know about trueing up and down. theres a lot too it but i fully understand how to tackle the job now thank you 👍🇬🇧
Mike, you sure took the mystery out of my much taboo topic and made it very easy and clear to understand.Im saving these vids for future projects and to that,I thank you.
Interesting! Glad you showed how it's done.. That's some knolage that not allot know. And good to pass on. I might even give it a try some day. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍✌
Hi Mike, a realy nice Video. I never seen a Torque Wrench for Wheel Spokes. Cool. Your Harley become a wonderful Look with this Wheel. Kind Regards from Mike
Thanks for the video. I was a cyclist, riding road bicycles long distances, before I got into motorcycles; and I true my own bicycle wheels. Truing bicycle wheels is exactly the same as truing motorcycle wheels; and truing bicycle wheels is a good way to learn, less expensive and less critical.
Great job brother,,never been able to learn that from anybody else,,but got it the 1st time ,,,you are a great teacher,,keep it up,,watching from martinsville va.
well i'll be dipped, been building m/c's for over 40 years and first time i've heard of a tprque setting for spokes, but makes sense. Thanks for the lesson Mike, back in the shop tomorrow to fine tune my wheel build.
Thanks for your videos,,it brought back some stuff I had forgotten and you taught me a few new things. Keep the info videos come very helpful.. again thanks Mike....
With all of the custom non spoke rims being used now I am glad you posted these videos as honestly building spoke rims is becoming a lost art. Great job Mike
Wish I viewed this last year. I did my own for my softail last year. Even though a professional bike mechanic gave me an excellent job done. I think I got lucky. When I do my next wheel this is going to make my task much easier
I am going through a certain school to be a motorcycle mechanic and the way they are trying to “teach” how to do this is bs. We have 4 hours of lab and a classmate and I spent almost all of it trying to figure out how to do it. We weren’t even close. After watching this video I can 100% say I can go back Monday and nock it out. Thank you so much for making this video!!
Thanks Mike! The straight edge! Who knew. While we may not have the speciality tools. I’m can imagine a jig. Great camera. If we can get it close we are doing well. Great advice on what to look at by the way.The wheel shop can add a weight if needed. It is so much more fun to build it yourself but also understand the engineering. That tip on the sets of 4 to pull. Less is more. Looking forward to the next. Stay well
I have really been enjoying your videos and learning a lot. Tons of knowledge & a great voice. Currently working on my 76 rigid shovel basket case that I took apart over 20 years ago. I love when you say "and there is is" ...don't stop brother!
Mike, Keep up the GREAT video's, I have learned a ton of useful info and know how from you. Your simplified straight forward approach and calm methodical demonstrations make it easier to grasp and learn. Thanks again and don't lose the Pacific Mike"isms" like "and there it is" I am sure that I am not the only one who enjoys hearing them and even occasionally find myself using them. I am still looking for that Shovelhead being so inspired by your videos. Thanks for doing what you do. Kevin
Thanks, brother. I was trying my best to get this done 1st try.... a great video.....at a perfect speed "steady at a snail's pace" GOTTA KNOW JOES HOBBIES Joe..
Thanks, Mike! I'm putting Boranni aluminum rims on a new project bike, so this video is very confidence-inspiring. I'm going to give it a try and save $100 per wheel!
That was clear enough for me to think about trying to build a wheel for myself. And that Sir, is the highest praise one can give a teacher, which you certainly are. I'd rather listen to you, than most of the teachers I have encountered in my checkered past.
We've all been there. I try to explain it the same as if I were trying to understand it. I didn't like the teachers I had in school. But I sure liked the old bikers who took the time to teach me. Thank You.
Another great and informative video. I really appreciate your tone, delivery and wisdom on your instructional here. Now I want to build a wheel myself, I'm just not equipped to do so. Watching you work is a great pleasure. You have the qualities of a great teacher. God Bless
That was enthralling Mike, thank you! You're explanation and technique are slow and deliberate, making it easier for my old and slow brain to absorb and understand the information. I've always considered wheel building the Devils work but you have removed the mystique and made it accessible to everyone. Thanks Mike.
Mike... Great job on the wheel build... and I like your toque wrench and planing to make one for a bicycle spoke nipple size.. I have built a few thousand bicycle wheels over the last 35 plus years.. I have a few tricks.. To get the wheels centered a quick way is to set the indicator rod on the side of the rim remove it from the stand leaving the axles in place and flip the wheel from side to side...if the indicator is in the same spot you know the wheel is centered.. I have brazed a 1/4 ball bearing on the indicator pointer and it keeps the rim from getting scratched and it is easy to see the gap between it and the rim surface.. I rub bees wax on the threads of the spokes and it lubricates it a little when you thread it on to the nipple and eventually acts like a mild form of Locktite.. Linseed oil works well too...
Very informative video guys... My back wheel on my 04 road king 16" spoke needs trued and im doing it myself cause my mechanic is to busy. This is the best video ive seen on truing wheels....tatro machine is pretty good too but i always watch your videos
Hello Mike. I'm glad to see you're okay. It's the first time I've seen a wheel mounted like this. It's really worth seeing, but it's not that easy to do in my opinion. Thanks in advance for the info, it was worthwhile to iook again. grtz Erwin
Thanks for the upload! I have always done the final tighten by feel but seeing your inch torque wrench idea... i might invest. Im always willing to learn new ways of doing things. Cheers! Al
I am always amazed at how much knowledge you have sir and I thank you for sharing with others who love are bikes as much as you do. I am looking forward to doing my own wheels for my 82 ironhead now that I have actually seen it done. I hope you have a great weekend and stay safe.
This is awesome Mike! Even though I’m sure the other commenters were just messing with ya over “there it is,” or whatever, don’t censor yourself (unless it’s like contractual obligation). But when you have the knowledge you’ve acquired over the years, teach us how you see fit. Keep em coming!

Beautiful wheel.... Great work.... Art work..... Thank you Mr Mike and Garage. ..thank you for being there brother

Thanks Mike, this is important information and nothing to shortcut.
Glad it was helpful!
Now I think I can tackle my 74 sporty rear rim in desperate need of new spokes .
Thank you .
George
Thank You. Take it slow.
I've been really enjoying this, understandable and concise teaching.
That's exactly what I hope to hear. Thank You.
I've trued plenty of wheels in my 70 years, and this gentleman Mike Has It Down.

Mike, you are a great teacher, I now understand how too true a wheel and know that it will take time to get good at it.
Thank You. Yah, it takes time.
Thank you Mike. That was valuable instruction to understand my laced wheels and was enjoyable, because a good teacher makes learning a joy - !! And you, Sir, Are a good teacher. Shalom
Great to hear! Shalom

Cool. Thank You.
Thank you for taking the time to explain what has always been a mythical process. Finally I think I understand it.
Cool. Thank You.

Thank You. I hope you continue to enjoy our efforts.
You are a huge asset. I especially love the part about leaving it overnight just to see if it settles. I've seen that happen by moving a rim. 😳
Yes! Thank you!
Very calming with that radio voice, easy to understand, wish you were closer to my neck of the woods, I'd learn even more👌
Wow, thanks
Mike, have seen a few video's, on re-spoke and trueing a wheel, this is the best show how and explanation on how to. THANKS Again. By The WAY Nice wheel.

Gdaya, Mike; Another great video, With your help I have no doubt about relacing my own front wheel, Thanks for the Video. Thanks Mate ;)
Glad to help
Great job at the 9:02 mark describing the right attitude to keep when, in my opinion, working on any part of your bike.
We all need to excercise a little self-control now and then. You think I was never a small child? I'm glad I wasn't one of my teachers.
I have really been enjoying your videos and learning a lot. Tons of knowledge & a great voice. Currently working on my 76 rigid shovel basket case that I took apart over 20 years ago.

Thanks, Mike! I'm putting Boranni aluminum rims on a new project bike, so this video is very confidence-inspiring. I'm going to give it a try and save $100 per wheel!
Do it because you can, not to save money. If you really want it true, it's labor intensive. Enjoy doing it. See how true you can make it.

Cool video Mike, makes me want to check on my front tire!
Thank You.
I need to remove it soon, and tackle a fork oil leak. An assembly of a hydraulic fork video would definitely get a thumbs up
I'd sit here and watch you truing it for several hours. Like you say it's relaxing, and satisfying!another great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thank You.
Thanks Mike👍😎

I’ve always wondered. Thanks for teaching me
Happy to help!

Excellant tutorial Mike and I thank you, I really enjoyed it! What a nifty procedure. I would enjoy doing this for myself.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This has been one of the most informative things I've watched on TH-cam. Thank you very much Mike ! Fantastic channel. Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you
Thank You.
Great looking wheel Mike! I can’t wait to see the front end. I understand what you mean by centering. When I changed the rear wheel to my 1970 Sportster to a 5.00X16, I had to offset it a little to clear the chain and center the wheel in the rear fender.
Yep, been there more than once.
What a great vid that helped me big time
Glad it helped
👍👍🇨🇦✌🇨🇦✌🇨🇦✌👍 Thanks Mike !!! Beautiful

One of the biggest problems most people have that try to true wheels,is they have to LOOSEN som spokes as well as tighten.Good explanation Mike! (From a 47+ year HD mechanic!) (And wheel lacer/truer! LOL)
