    Foreign aid. as it is now should be abolished and replaced with a disaster fund which could then be available when disasters such as earthquakes. volcanic eruptions. floods droughts occur so that funds are immediately able to respond to calamities around the world.

    0:31 several types of foreign aid: humanitarian, economic (to sponsor development), military support & healthcare
    ODA = Official Development Assistance
    2:43 Aid can be used to expand markets for a donor country's goods (ex: tied aid)
    3:12 Aid for political reasons: Reasons of strategic self interest = a country provided aid so as to buy friends & influence (for security reasons, take the US during the Cold War for instance). The point is to incentivize countries to side with the donor country
    5:17 Dambisa Moyo believes that job opportunities & investments will make a lasting change as opposed to foreign aid, which isn't used by the right people due to corruption. Besides, foreign aid which supplies education for young girls doesn't offer job prospects after graduating. What's the point of graduation if the chances of finding a satisfying job are low?
    On the other hand, William Easterly criticizes the fact that most donors provide aid to developing countries without knowing what they truly need. That's like giving a gift to an unknown person and not receiving feedback or without knowing the person's opinion on the said gift.
    This is known as the “Knowledge Problem ” , it's an incentive problem.
    Another downside that comes with aid is the lack of follow up - or an ineffective follow up- of the aid given fo measure whether or not the assistance had a positive impact.
    Most aid agencies provide aid & then forget about it.

    can someone explain to me why there is a lack of feedback? The analogy of buying a christmas present for someone you don't know doesn't make sense to me. like do countries just send aid willy nilly or is there some kind of discussion about how/when/why they will receive aid? if there is, why is there no feedback?

    The UK and other rich countries have given massive quantities of financial aid to poor countries in Africa and Asia etc over many years without them keeping their side of the bargain. namely to cut their huge population increase which is principally to blame for their situation. We simply cannot afford to keep handing them more and more money.

  • @mbabazi.o

    You have to face a Holy GOD on judgement day. HE sees lust as adultery (Matthew 5:28) and hatred as murder. (1John 3:15) will you be guilty? JESUS took your punishment on the cross, and rose again, defeating death to save you from hell.
    Please, Repent (Luke 13:5) and trust in JESUS CHRIST today.
    May GOD soften you heart to receiving JESUS CHRIST, our Redeemer, as your personal LORD and Savior.
    Please, Repent and trust in HIM today.
