Thanks for watching! Hey, I have this video about the Ark that I made and I'm trying to get it to have more thumbs up than thumbs down. Usually I don't care if I get thumbs down but this video was a lot of work and the aetheists gave it a ton of thumbs down. I put it on Facebook and my friends got the thumbs up to pass the thumbs down by 2! Could you give a thumbs up also? Here it is: th-cam.com/video/GG-D-v3nbRs/w-d-xo.html . Thanks for visiting my channel!
How can you be sure it identifies as a steam locomotive? What if its a non binary locomotive? What is a steam train. Are steam trains racist because they use coal, and coals racist?
I have some excellent footage of them with the whistles to post still when I get time. After we rode the train, the next day we chased it a short distance and got it crossing the public roads a few times. I filmed at least 3 of the steamers in action and I filmed the other ones parked. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Dave! I am planning on going back there again this fall. That is probably the best place in the eastern US to see active steam locomotives. I miss East Broadtop.
First I am a Shay fan. Second this is not a race, if it was the Shay would lose, it is a geared locomotive and not designed for speed. BUT if you had a tug of war the Shay would walk it as it has far more tractive power. The black smoke is deliberate, it's to make for a better photo, no driver worth his salt would allow that much soot clog the tubes and chimney.
Yeah, its more of a thing to keep the railfans happy. You can tell by the sounds that the diesel isn't really trying and they try to cover that fact up with more whistle and horn. Lol. Anyway, thanks for watching! I will be posting a video of the ride behind the shay.
Oh Man Jaw Tooth, that Cass Scenic Train is so awesome dude! Beautiful scenery with a great train ride through the mountains. Extraordinary video Jaw Tooth! Make sure to get more of these old steam trains in the future. I enjoy watching them go through the mountains 4 sure! There's nothing like smoking my pipe tobacco and watching these old steam locomotives!
I remember the last days of steam on the Illinois Central. I remember hearing the sound of a steam whistle in the middle of the night. This was about 1953-55. There’s nothing more lonely sounding than a steam whistle in the middle of the night. We lived about a mile from the tracks
Well, diesels horns do echo in the distance, more than a steamer’s whistle though.

It looks like a vertical double action steam engine with small driver wheels and superheated steam with a recovery condenser, very modern for it's day. We still had steam locos in my youth in Canada up to the sixties. I can remember finding coal on the tracks , loading it into my wagon and bringing it home to burn in our parlor stove.
Looks to me like two diesel locomotives versus one steam loco. So good to see a steam loco that 1. runs on coal (and has not been converted to oil and 2. pulls a train without DPU diesel loco assistance. And what can I say. steam wins again.
I do think both are equal in terms of power, motive and beauty. But my heart tells me to look at the diesel locomotive, because it is the embodiment of under appreciation and misrepresentation, especially when it comes to Thomas and Friends, but again I respect peoples opinions.
It's awesome that the steam whistle is a lot louder than the air horn, but as far as a drag race it's not fair because the steam locomotive is a Sheay and they don't go no faster than 12 to 15 miles an hour
I was at Horseshoe Curve this summer with my friend Millenniumforce. We're coming back to Pennsylvania in a couple weeks. We were also at Gallitzen, Lilly and a few other towns near there.
Great job filming it I love it I just don't like all that black smoke coming out out the engines smokestack but other wise I love it I love watching and yes I enjoyed it think u for your time doing this
Thank you very much! We also rode the train and when I get the time I will put that video together also. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments!
Outstanding!! So wish I had time & money to chase trains!! I have an "N" scale Boston & Maine BL-2 !! Although the original issue Baldwin models generally were not equipped with multi-unit lash up ability, some lines did add the ability until more powerful road engines became available. They usually dumped them onto branch lines or switch yard grunts, until they wore out. It's just an interesting design, I keep it just as an example of variation. They're just as rare as the real thing. Since B&M had a ton of branch lines, it made sense they'd use them longer than most. Once the M.U.-able diesels came along, that was pretty much the end of the BL-2's. Thanks so much for catching all these cool trains you spend time finding!! 👍🏻☺️😎🚂🚃🎊
@@MarkusGustav Here is a link to it. www.kyrail.org/equipment/ I rode behind it and took a lot of pics. Very unique locomotive. I haven't seen it in years so I hope it still runs. I have seen so many trains since then that my memory isn't very accurate. lol
@@JawTooth much appreciated! I’ll take a look as soon as I can. About 12-13 years ago I worked at a car dealership that backed the nearby Canadian National line, and every day either a pair of GMD1s or a GMD1 with a GP9RM would go by doing the local, and I used to make sure I was outside to hear the 567 engines throttle up as they came out of the curve. It was awesome
FOR SIGHT AND SOUND the diesel didn't stand a chance! If it was a race the diesel was behind even though it had the inside track 😅 Of course that's just my opinion 😉 🤷 😏 😅 🤔 I LOVE the STEAMERS 💘 💜 💛 💚 🧡
Great video Brian have subbed, these remind me of the old wild west movies we watch here in the uk so nostalgic !! thanks for sharing 😊 even liked the reverse ha ha !!
i saw this video from a different angle on another channel and it was cool to see the steam engine action but from the angle he was at you saw the diesel more so i'm glad your on the angle that beautiful streamer was on.
I actually have video from both sides of it but I like this side better also. My wife filmed the other side. I asked one of the employees if it was okay to film from there and then a whole group of ppl followed me to that side. Lol. I was glad that I asked. Thanks for watching!
i wish i could travel to see some of these beautiful steam engine that are still running in action but i dont have the travel fees for something like that sadly but maybe one day i will and it wont just be online lol
I wonder what the closest one is in your area. Hopefully you can see one soon. There are a bunch of them out there still and they come and go all the time. There are several steam engines being restored right now. I hope you get to see some of them.
yeah i hope i will to.i wish i could see 319 once it restored since i used to look at that stream when i was little and wonder what kind of stories she could tell if she could talk thanks to thomas the tank engine back in the 90s lol.i live in ashland and 319 was in russell ky which is the next town over from me when i was a kid and still is now and really want to see her working again since it seems her sister engine 318 will always be in the Huntington WV railroad museum never to run again :'(.but unless i win a contest i think my only chance to see one in action is to win the lottery lmao or have an accident and catch one having to go threw my town like the lake hiawatha had to in the early 90's because it original route was closed down so it had to run threw ashland and russell ky to get to where it needed to be for the end of it railway excursion
I know, I read about that in Trains Magazine. The railroad wants to use that line for car storage instead. Bummer. I was in Florida the last month that it operated and didn't go see it because the tickets were sold out that day. It was probably the last weekend for it. Anyway, thanks for watching!
That was cool Brian. I hope your stay there was nice. Also, nice looking puppy too! Does he/she like trains? Maybe we'll see him/her again. I hope so. Cheers, Dan
I started taking him to see trains but he doesn't really get excited about them like Prince did. I park the truck so he can watch them. His mother actually came from Cass in 2006. I think I have him ( Riley ) in a couple of my videos. You will see more of him. He is a good dog and he hardly ever barks. Thanks for watching Danny!
I live in West Virginia and I go to Cass almost every year. I live 161 miles away from Cass. They also have the biggest Shay in the world. Shay No.6 But I’ve never been there for railfan weekend.
Wow Jaw Tooth this was great!!! I loved it!! Beautiful trains!! And your dog reminds me so much of the one you lost!! It's beautiful!! Thanks for sharing this awesome video Brian!!! 😀😀
Thank you Necie. Both dogs were about the same size and they are very similar but this one ( Riley ) doesn't get very excited about trains yet. He loves riding in the truck and every time he sees me get the keys he runs to the truck. Lol. He is a great dog but a little shy. Thanks for watching!

Yeah
Does it ever. The diesel sounds like a tin can.
The diesel is more than a tin can, its a powerful machine with a soul.
Play that funky music engineer 🎶 🎵
Whoever operates that steam locomotive KNOWS the people would rather hear a steam whistle than a horn, steamer wouldnt shut up. Lol
How can you be sure it identifies as a steam locomotive? What if its a non binary locomotive?

When I heard that whistle, I almost dropped my phone. Truly a beautiful sound. Nice catch. Keep up the good work.

Awesome race! Those engineers over there on the Cass Scenic really know how to quill whistles beautifully!
Neat! I always liked the Shay, with its offset boiler. One of my favs!! 💕HAPPY NEW WEEK!❤️

I was watching a British documentary from the 1940s on how to properly stoke a firebox, and the less black smoke the more heat to make steam.
Diesels, have always been an a revolutionary ride but that will never beat the Old iron horses

I think the steam loco has a louder horn sound compared to the diesel loco.
Just an opinion :)

The lake behind you was very BEAUTIFUL as well!
I think so too!
Even though it's obviously contrived for steam fans, this is great to watch. Gotta love both those classic locomotives!
Thank you for watching my video!
As soon as I heard the steam train's whistle I couldn't help but smile.
I like it better when JT says "but wait, there's more!" without adding "course there always is."
*Le chien et le décor sont magnifique. Un vrais retour vers le future ce train, merci beau weekend*.

Somehow I missed this one ... Great live action Son ... Thx again ...
Glad you enjoyed it
At one point I was wondering whether more steam went into the engine of that Shay or into the whistle.
It's great to see shay 2 again!
Love the steam whistle.
Hello Mr. JT
Trees always get in the way. Great video.
A plus video, Thanks Jaw Tooth.
I love this video I love steam locomotives
Even if it lost, it made the best impression.
So cool to see vintage trains in your videos. It was a nice special day in that nice place!
I do think both are equal in terms of power, motive and beauty. But my heart tells me to look at the diesel locomotive, because it is the embodiment of under appreciation and misrepresentation, especially when it comes to Thomas and Friends, but again I respect peoples opinions.
Wow - what an awesome event to witness! Great video, excellent catch! 👍

There's a BL2 at the Kentucky Railway museum as well that runs and lead the excursion just last weekend. Monon #32
I rode behind that BL2 and this one a few years ago. I'm still hoping to get back to the Kentucky Railway Museum this year. Thanks for watching!
Hey, that race looks fixed!!! The EMD has the inside track!!! Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
They told me that they take turns letting the engines win. Lol. I think both years that I went the steamer won though
This place reminds me of the Horseshoe Curve, near Altoona, Pennsylvania.. I live in a town near that city.. it's not too bad..

Awesome race and video!
Very cool and that steamy a heavy smoker ain't she. Lol!
Great job filming it I love it I just don't like all that black smoke coming out out the engines smokestack but other wise I love it I love watching and yes I enjoyed it think u for your time doing this
Thank you very much! We also rode the train and when I get the time I will put that video together also. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments!
funfact: the lighter bluish exhaust from the diesel does more environment damage than the black coalfire-smoke :-)
MissYijare it's just because the black coming from the steam locomotive is mostly sut what's coming from the diesel electric Loco is burning oil
MissYijare I wouldn't say that.
Outstanding!!

Nice legs, nice dog, nice trains, nice video.
That BL2 isn't the most attractive but I find them so interesting! I didn't know there was one that still operated. Thank you.
They are! There is also one in New Haven, Kentucky that I saw running about ten years ago. It is probably still there in use
@@JawTooth I’ve only see the static one at the B&O railroad museum in Baltimore. Really need to see and hear one running! Love that old diesel rumble.
