  • This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
    📖 Follow along with the official Catechism in a Year Reading Plan (AscensionPress...)
    God draws people to himself and makes them his own. The Catechism shows us what makes God’s people different from everyone else, and what it is that unites them. Fr. Mike hones in on what exactly it is that the People of God do, and exhorts us to start doing that right here, today. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 781-786.
    Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
    Ascension is committed to creating media that helps Catholics grow in their faith. Catechism in a Year promises to do just that - that’s why, no matter what, we’re making it. This podcast is free and always will be. But, we have limited resources. With funding from generous supporters like you, we can do even more than simply create the podcast. Would you consider supporting Ascension’s free media? tinyurl.com/2s.... No amount is too small!
    Although not tax-deductible, the financial support we receive goes towards the creation of podcasts and videos that help Catholics grow in their faith. If you’d like to learn more about what we do with gifting, go to AscensionPress.... Thank you and God bless you!

    We must live out this great mission and three anointings of priest, prophet, and king by God's grace, but, critically, the laity, we lambs, must be deputed, authorized, and empowered by very ones with apostolic authority, namely the bishops and their delegates, the priests like Father Mike.
    Anyone can read the catechism, the Bible, other books on piety, etc., and he can speak emphatically, but it's only when one speaks with the support of the ecclesiastical authority that one is truly empowered. Without the shepherds, the lambs not only scatter, but they remain wandering and wondering. Thank you, Father Mike, for your service of shepherding us and please thank your Bishop for supporting you in your mission to serve us.

    Yes, love that distinction: all are "kingdom priests" but those ordained are "ministerial priests." We all have a high calling, but let's not try to take over or undervalue those who are consecrated as ministerial priests.

    Thanks Fr. Mike!
    Yes, we are trucking along, into the depths & thickness on today’s paragraphs 781-786! I’m so grateful that LUMEN GENTIUM is referenced all the time, since I haven’t read it as a whole, but makes it easier to digest this way, especially with Fr. Mike’s reading & teaching!
    I first encountered this Priest, Prophet & Kingly office of all Baptized Catholics, with Bishop Barron’s series & amazing and same time humbling moments to me who have heard this line multiple times in each Baptism I have been as a godmother, yet didn’t really click. But thanks be to God, that He patiently continues to help me understand, through His ordained Priest ministers, especially now, Fr. Mike, so appreciate you, eternal gratitude!!! My CIY Family here, thank you too!!!

    Day 110 done :)
    We the people of God are anointed as Priest, Prophet and King
    Priest - We as Kingdom priests are called to offer sacrifice and lay down our lives a ms a sacrifice
    Prophet - We are called to speak the truth in love
    King - We reign when we serve God particularly in the poor and suffering in whom the church recognises *the image of her poor and suffering founder*
    God wants all humans on this planet to know his great love. But they won't.... Unless I live out these 3 anointings which God has bestowed
    *We are the people of God and we get to live out like this*
    It's a high call and we need grace....

    (Ashamed to admit this) I have sadly been neglecting my prayer life, my bible study and this podcast of CIY which I love so much for about 2 months now. I recently got in to this video game and kept telling myself that I would "get back to it" (BIY, CIY and prayer).... yeah, I did not. Thus 2 months have gone by and tonight I experienced something in the game that in a way "triggered" me finally to truly get back to what I NEED to be doing. In these 2 months I felt that God had stopped communicating with me since I was growing apart from him but the truth is I was the one not listening. As soon as I got back to it God is talking as he always has only that now I can hear him cause I am actually paying attention. It always blows me away the ways in which he transmits his message. "But we also need to speak the truth in love when the truth needs to be spoken", is just one of the many lines tonight that blew me away and made me feel like he had been waiting. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! CIY and I feel so sorry for myself for depriving myself of this blessing!

    The Church is the "people of God." The people has for its origin God the Father; for its head Jesus Christ ; and the anointing of the Holy Spirit through the sacraments. The people of God participate in Christ's office, which is priestly, kingly, and prophetic. I pray that the Holy Spirit will give me the wisdom to understand this better 🙏

    • @MorreHope
      @MorreHope ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I cut and pasted from another feeling the same sentiments. I am a convert. I came out of the other spectrum of Evangelicals. Totally out of order; doing their own thing. At last! Converts come to order; it does not matter about the holy objects being repositioned; for someone who knows their Bible very well; now learning to combine it with the catechism. Demonstrations: You get in the Catholic church specific order and structures; in what does not exist in Protestantism. 1) The order of the 5 sacraments. 2) the perpetual Pentecost; commission of the Priestly, Kingly, and Prophet-like; to make the Kingdom grow. Through martyrdom was the birth of the Vatican. 3) The perpetual Virginity of the VM of Rev 12. 4) The word of God; not just in word of mouth; but the Word of the Lord; regardless of the placing of the holy objects; but the Word of God in power and in demonstration of the Holy Spirit.
      How to improve the Holy Spirit to flow; for each age; we face new challenges. Jesus said the Church will go through trials and tribulations to do with decay from within; by NOT praying and reading the catechism; UNTIL NOW. I read my Bible; but I had been praying for the missions for the Catechism; which reading the catechism was NOT working. Then God sent Fr. Mike. WOW!!! Now; - if we can see the power of God in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit. I feel the energy on this platform. I just joined in four days ago. I am so excited. You be that individual that is in your post of duty; don't look to the left or to the right. The devil will give many distractions; THE PLACING OF THE HOLY OBJECTS; AND THE THINGS THAT JESUS SAID WILL COME; BUT HIS IMMACULATE HEART WILL TRIUMPH. Keep your eyes focused on what God is doing on this platform; and that it will never be put down; in the freedom of religion. It is the small things that we take for granted. Run with it.

    Surely by the way God's people live their lives in the face of sufferings shows that we cling to the Faith because it's true. Unfortunately the evils of the day we face we may not always do this because it's so easy to be annoyed to no end so we lash out in our frustration. The most important thing we do is to quickly and sincerely apologize even though the damage is done and forgiveness becomes something we are enslaved to earn. Think before you leap.

I recall specifically the first time I heard a priest's homily which referred to those glorious offices..when the Mass was over I turned to my brother & asked him befoundedly..does that apply to me? And when he authoritatively shook his head 'Yes' I began to well up with tears..& you know what? I still do every time I hear that phrase! It's just one of those phrases that grabs me by my heartstrings & allows my mind to wander into deeply religious thoughts..mmmmm. Praying for everyone out there in the CIY Community. God bless!

    Day 110 takeaways: God wants your heart individually given to Him but in communion with your brothers and sisters as a people, as one body. One becomes a people not by physical birth but by being born anew by the water and the Holy Spirit. The people of God are Baptize and anointed, thereby sharing in Christ’s mission as Priest, Profit and King. Baptized people have been given a New Life, a new reality. They become children of God. Yet, God is not the property of any one people. Baptized people are not to Lord it over others as a triumphant accomplishment, but rather it means that we are called to serve all. The people of God are meant to be the salt of the Earth and a light in a world of darkness. Their destiny is the Kingdom of God made perfect in Heaven. The first place we are called to serve is right in our own backyard. Sometimes this means being a good listener and sharing your time with others. God wants all human beings on the planet to know His great love.

    Father, lately I have been thinking about Communion and the Eucharist and the difference between them. I am hopeful that you will spend time, perhaps a whole show during the Catechism program to reflect on this topic. Communion seems to be a verb - the act of His body (the church) coming together to glorify Him and for our souls to become one with Him. The Eucharist is his actual concentrated body and blood. I am sure I do not have a full or deep understanding. Please elaborate on this. Thank you.

      God reverses the science of the physical and the spiritual. When we die; we leave the physical to enter the spiritual. In the celebration we: see the opposite: the physical bread turning spiritual; on earth; and not in heaven. We did not have to die to see the spiritual.

    What happened to all the people in ancient civilizations before Jesus who were not Jewish, the people of ancient Greece, Mesopotamia, etc? How do they fit into God's plan?

    • @MorreHope
      @MorreHope ปีที่แล้ว

      In the St Joseph novena; - it says that the Jews were in Limbo; and St Joseph who died before the crucifixion; had given them REVELATION; what his position was to guardianship honors of his; to the Son of God; and husband honors of his to be the husband to the MOTHER OF OUR LORD. There is no information inside of scriptures about the other nations; other than Jewish; and we are NOT supposed; to go outside of what that which has been written. 1 Corinthians 4:6, Quote: ...for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other." End. God did not want us to go into divination to read the palms or such sciences. This is an exaggeration of going outside of the Word of God for information; when we don't know about the salvation of: weather our loved one is in Purgatory or in Heaven. Galatians; be in prayer; with light heartedness; "whatsoever things; always be: whatsoever things are lovely and - True and a good report. In 1 Peter 4; there he addresses spiritual problems to correct; and he says; - the same thing; "Charity covers a multitude of sins" when we come in prayer for situations. From that early discipleship; 1 Peter 4 says: the end is near. To a Christian; the end is always near; to not lose focus of the prize; that is set before us; that we may run the race; as endurance runners! This is the difference between David of old; and the style of worship of the effects of the discipleship of Jesus Day. David complained; why do the heathens rage; and imagine a vain thing?" But we have a different style of endurance running. Jarius said: "Jesus; just say one word and my daughter will be healed." We say that in Communion: "And I will be healed." We put Jesus Christ at the forefront of the situations that arise; and WE RUN WITH IT. WHEN JESUS IS IN THE HOUSE; HE IS NOT FOUR DAYS LATE; HE IS GOING TO TURN IT AROUND. (Martha's words.)
      Back to your question about the other nations; other than Jewish: UNLESS SOMEONE HAD FOUND A SCRIPTURE OR CATACHISM THEN FINE; THEY ARE IN LIMBO. BUT WE ARE; NOT ALLOWED TO ADD OR TAKE AWAY. 😇

    A good example of the action lived out: Priestly, Kingly, and Prophet-like. St Stephen. As quick as death happened in a flash; and when he saw his life flash before his eyes; what did he see? He saw the next dimension of the Mt transfiguration with different people. It was the vision of: Priestly Jesus; and Kingly Father; and below on earth: Prophet-like; St Stephen; prophesying to his chief enemy: St Paul. A martyr means to give your life for the salvation to those killing you. Did it work? Yes. Think harder. Who is one of the greatest apostles that ever lived? Why did he change his name to small? Because: he, St Small felt undeserving to the Agape Love; that the it was so contagious; that he preached with chains on his hands; because: of Rome. He preached on the government to be respected; regardless; and they even beheaded him. Rome became the Kingly, Priestly, and Catechism Prophetism. Now; Father Mike with all the other priests do the three; with Communion. We are the three also. We have to sacrifice. I do novenas for people.

    There a bit of hesitancy to be cautious with any of the teachings that came from Vatican II. I love the tradition of the church & I get very cautious with the changes Vatican II implemented. Like changing the altar's location in many of the new churches. I believe that the tabernacle should be in the "CENTER" of the church & should never have been put to the side. It always saddens me when I go into a new Catholic church to find the tabernacle set to the side of the altar or even worst, hidden in the back of the church. Jesus should be front & center in ALL the Catholic churches. WE BELIEVE IN TRUE PRESENCE. Jesus most precious body & blood is present in the consecrated bread contained in the tabernacles, in ALL Catholic churches, in the world. The Latin Masses is what I consider the most reverent & loving way to honor & celebrate the mass. I pray it comes back to be the standard way of celebrating the Catholic mass.

    • @sharonmiller9100
      @sharonmiller9100 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I really began to understand that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was just that, a Holy Sacrifice, from stumbling across the Latin Mass, which I had never known even existed my whole life. The reverence for the Blessed Sacrament is out of this world. The 2019 Pew Study showed that 69% of all self-identified Catholics said they believed the bread and wine used at Mass are not Jesus, but instead "symbols of the body and blood of Jesus Christ." (Of course, this percentage includes people that do not attend Mass regularly, but it is disturbing, nonetheless.) If that survey was conducted amongst regular Traditional Latin Mass goers, I think the number would be closer to 0.01% if not zero. Also, 83% or Catholics believe the Devil is only a symbol as well. I attend a Novus Ordo now (it's closer and way easier) and have an open mind about these V2 teachings. The writings are poetic and beautiful when read, but I am not always so sure about the implementation and the final results. I try to carry the TLM reverence in my heart with me wherever I go to Mass.

John 10:38 in the rebuke to the Pharisees; is telling a revelation to the believer; that: you are like St Peter; who made human errors; but: THE WORD OF GOD INSIDE OF THE BELIEVER; WEATHER YOU UNDERSTAND OR NOT IS THE BELIEVER. JESUS SAID: BELIEVEST THOU THIS? He did not say: do you understand this. The disciples told Jesus; they were having a hard time understanding; but they believed in him; and said: Yes, we believe. Mary too. She said: how could this be; but then she said: Yes; according to thy Word.
      Quote: It is important that the church today understand the definition of ekklesia. The church needs to see itself as being “called out” by God. If the church wants to make a difference in the world, it must be different from the world. Salt is different from the food it flavors. God has called the church to be separate from sin (1 Peter 1:16), to embrace fellowship with other believers; AS TODAYS CATACHISM STATES (Acts 2:42), and to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14). God has graciously called us unto Himself: “‘Come out from them and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you’” (2 Corinthians 6:17). I heard of the sharing in the prophet-priest-king thing, even from Protestants. But you could tell who all actually had that privilege. That talk was only window-dressing. In reality, the laity were just beasts-of-burden…and most of those were women. These are your servants who were told they had this invisible high office. In reality, they had no such position.
    It’s not the emperor who was the one with no clothes. It was the servants. And the emperor owned them all. Also, he kept them deluded into believing they were wearing some of the best clothes ever.
    This is depressing.
