    I saw him twice too in the 60s. I'm pretty sure I was on acid both times. When he started playing all I could do was just stand there with my mouth wide open, in awe. He was really from another time dimension. If you listen to Electric Ladyland with headphones on you will feel the music all around you and deep within you. We are all just pulsations of energy and that is why we like this music so much. It takes you on a journey.

      I remember listening to electric lady land earphones 30 years after it released. You just described that feeling 1983 merman should I turn to be. Squalid guitars coming in and out it was bad ass . I haven’t listened landlady with headphones since because it’s was too much fine wine?

    This footage is from the Singer Bowl, Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, N.Y.C. I was there (16 yrs. old). A recording of Hendrix is a mere shadow of his live performances. They were otherworldly, almost like tripping! I was blessed to see him play 3 times!

    incredible footage. i must say the more rare releases i am privileged to see on youtube, i have to feel for the people who never got to see him at all. watching all of this historical footage is just a mere fraction of what it was like to see him live. yes -- i saw him live, twice in california: at the hollywood bowl in september 1968, with vanilla fudge, soft machine and heir apparent; then i saw him in april 1969, with cat mother & the all night news boys, and a new band called chicago transit authority before they became just chicago. words cannot begin to describe the sight and sound of mr. hendrix performing, let alone the sheer volume at which he played. we are left with our memories of a young man who used sound as no one before him or after.

      I am grateful for all these recordings, audio, visual and otherwise. But you are correct they are only mere echos from a distant past. Unfortunately I wasn't born until a few days more than a year after he passed away. What most people forget is that music is and has always been and always will be a live performance art - and when we lost Jimi, the world was much less for it.

I am too young to remember much from 1969 and Woodstock isn't one of those memories. I discovered Hendrix only 10 years after his death, although that didn't seem like a short time at the time. Now 35 years later, and 45 years after his death, I've found 2 shows I've never seen before.

Then I'm not sure what my third was but I know The Kinks were one of the first few.. and I'm so thankful I got to see them. But man I would have given anything to see Jimi, Zep, Janis, Duane.. especially him... and I can go on and on about the band's I wish I'd seen. 60s and 70s were definitely the best time in music and anyone who was there to see it all is so lucky! ✌️

    It's amazing to know that since then every mannerism of Jimi Hendrix has been copied by guitar player since not just the music incredible

    • @Da_Xman
      @Da_Xman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simply enough, sometimes "odd mannerisms" and those that also might seem as posed postures are actually the most effective position that comes naturally to the body in acquiring the best leverage for the player's arms and hands to finger the strings in order to create the desired tone/sound from a particular guitar. And, it's not necessarily the same position with different guitar designs. This is due to the weight balancing of the instrument. That might sound strange, but there's a good deal of truth to it.

    If this was an outdoor event, then I'm certain I was there that night. My friend Danny and I drove in from Suffolk County Long Island to a Jimi Hendrix Concert. It was evening, outside and we sat on a huge bolder near a tree for the entire concert. Yes we were around 150 feet away from the stage. But we got in for free.
    If Jimi Hendrix performed elsewhere in Aug 1968 in an outdoor venue then it's possible we were at that event not this one.
    I always thought it was in Central Park but now I'm thinking it was just an outdoor area in Brooklyn NY with a few huge boulders in the area. Truthfully I did not know where we went that night I was only 18 and not familiar with "The City" or "Manhattan" Area. Danny was the driver and he knew where we were going. But it was Jimi Hendrix for sure. No one on Earth would get that part wrong. I've been a fan ever since.

    Insanely bad tuning issues. Despite that, it was pretty incredible. Jimi was speeding his ass off here. The pace is manic. Mitch was just killing it. Some ppl like Buddy Miles, but there's really no comparison. Mitch complimented Jimi in a way that Buddy never could.
    I'm not mentioning Noel, mainly coz I can't even hear him!
    I actually met Noel after a gig he played in Clifton Park back in the the late 80's. We sat at the bar, had a beer and chatted a bit about Jimi. Noel was the consumate English gentleman. He signed my ticket stub, "Best wishes, Joe. Noel Redding". I still have that stub. Great memory.
