When I was a toddler my two sisters played with two sisters next door. One of them had one of these Sindy buggy's. I used to grab it for my Action Men to explore their back garden with it lol.

Another one for a few quid would give you the extra wheels, but well done, a simple but effective transformation 👍 also great to see Luna hogging the limelight 🐈 or moonlight rather!

Smashing customisation, and it’s made me want to get my head round a project I’ve been thinking about but putting off for a bit now.
And how well behaved is Luna , our dog dex just tries eating whatever I’m trying to restore lol

Thanks. The idea for this is quite simple, but it makes such a difference. And Luna is pretty good. She has her own Luke Skywalker that she likes to chew. So far that is all she has chewed: th-cam.com/video/DsChnuhS-sM/w-d-xo.html

Great work! I always thought the Sindy Buggy would make a great Space 1999 moonbuggy - I know my sister's got the Sindy vehicle in her loft, I'll give it the Space 1999 treatment this weekend!

Absolutely Brilliant Dave!! I never would have thought to do that and it works perfectly!😃 As you were saying, the sticker work you do makes an amazing difference sometimes and the very minor LEGO additions just completed the look. If I saw it on the shelf, I would be certain it was made to be the moon rover from Space 1999. Just Wow!!🔥🔥🔥

The one custom figures helmet from what I can see seems to match the color of the buggy. Also the other figure with the mustache is giving off Bert Reynolds vibes.

    • @brianartillery
      @brianartillery 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ah, yes. The classic '70's porno moustache'. They were a thing, indeed. I remember the 1970's well.
That's a point: did anyone make a Burt Reynolds action figure? He made so many great, fun movies in the 1970's and 80's, you'd have thought it a no brainer, really.

    • @seanmc7128
      @seanmc7128 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@brianartillery do you think maybe toy polloi added the mustache or it grew there naturally? 🤔

@@seanmc7128 - The character of Paul Morrow was played by Prentis Hancock, who sported such a moustache. The figure is a good sculpt of the actor, complete with moustache.

I like the thought that reusing molds is something that toy companies should do. ^_^
    I’d agree.
Reusing molds can keep prices down and give kids more toy’s in a line.
I often wonder if that’s why some toys seem more special in a way.

I don't bother with measuring for stickers, I just take painter's tape, place it on the vehicle, then use a pencil to outline the contours of the area. Basically if the tape remains flat, I will continue the tape, and mark only where the plastic turns a corner or ends. I then take the tape off, put it on blank paper, and scan it into the computer to use as a template in Photoshop or Illustrator. I do this even if I'm using existing stickers as a basis, so I can tweak the shapes if need be to make them fit better.

I managed to pick up one of these for £6, and I've also gratefully downloaded those wonderful stickers from your website... Before I start though, I'm tempted to pick up a second buggy and see if I can't work out a way of attaching a third set of wheels - I know Plastic Weld won't be much use, but there must be a way...
Thank you so much for this video, Dave - you're a very real inspiration.
You, Mrs Toypolloi, and Luna, all take care Dude. :)

Dave I gotta tell you Man. This is now one of my new favorites. The stickers are fantastic. Dead on design wise, but the joysticks! It's amazing how something so simple can make such a huge difference. And the fact that you thought to use them. Is amazing to me. I don't have that kind of imagination. I can build anything, but to look at a couple pieces of plastic and say hey that looks like a spaceship/moon buggy Control stick. Not so much. Lol once again thank you for the Videos TP1, and TP2. God Bless.

Utterly love that you could make the buggy a custom without and permanent changes. As it was so bare though, certainly nothing would have been "ruined", if you had. Oddly, a lot of accessories for 1:6 scale fashion dolls end up scaled at 1:8. Likely to save a little bit on material costs & dimensions for shipping, but Mattel's been doing it with Barbie for at least as long Sindy's makers have, as well. The end result is as you said: the accessories, furniture, and vehicles are almost perfect for 8-10" figures and dolls, instead. 6" (1:12) and 4" figures were the norm for most of my childhood, but in the past few years, collectors' figures have more or less standardized around 8", for detailing and better joints, and that just opens up so many possibilities for fun silliness with fashion doll parts.

That explains the issues *I* have had when rigging up a 6th scale figure with some 'cheap' Barbie stuff. Great.

Yeah they should do more reuse of molds always, those giant expensive metal objects heh. At least it's yellow, modern doll cars of all brands tend to use bespoke pink constantly, like Barbie's ambulance or firetruck would be hot pink for some reason lol. Steffi Love makes a nice Volkswagen that fit 8" figures well and is quite realistic in proportions.

Great work, there. I'd have to replace the wheels, and give it an extra axle - I'm sure that some suitable wheels from R/C model cars could be found. (The real buggy was a skid-steer vehicle, and was controlled with two joysticks, rather like a tank, so no steering wheel) However, that's just me. You have made a great upgrade to the Sindy buggy. Nice one.
Considerably smaller, but worth looking out for, is the diecast buggy made by Majorette in the 1970's. It was a really nice model.

Brilliant job, TP! absolutely spot on! Really captures the Space 1999 feel.
Such a pleasing vehicle, and adaptable. You could repurpose that, with paint, decals, etc for other properties such as V, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, Action Man, etc.
But you know what else you could convert that awesome Sindy dune buggy into?
A Warthog from Halo....the actual body shape is very similar, and it wouldn't be that hard if you know what you're doing.
If I find one cheap, I'm tempted to try it. I reckon:
Full clean and careful removal of decals.
A very light sand over the body shell.
Plastic primer, followed by multiple coats of Tamiya olive drab matt spray.
Create new decals in photoshop, print onto water decal paper and apply.
3d print/lego/scavenge/buy suitable "greeblies" (fuel cans, ammo cases, front hooks, etc, you'd get those things from pound shop toys, figures, etc) paint and attach where it looks correct. Main weapon from action figure/3d print/lego.
Windscreen made from clear polycarb/acetate. Scratches don't even matter too, adds to the effect.
I've got an 8" master chief figure and a couple of Covenant to create a diorama. My figures scale would probably work to make the "Warthog" look bigger too.
    Make diorama base.
The tyres are kind of smooth, but I've got a large sheet of rubber, with an etched grid pattern (non slip mat for a gamers desk I think, I bought it from a car boot sale, thinking it might come in handy!) it's thin too, a suitable strip cut precisely and glued around each tyre circumference, et voila! Off road tyres! For the solid wheel hubs, a perfectly cut to size polystyrene circle, decorated carefully with small greeblies, offcuts, etc.
I'm gonna try it if I find one of these cheap. I've kitbashed and made models for years. Yes I'm a Halo fan. I've actually got Warthog models, but it would be interesting to kitbash one from an existing toy, make a "throwback" style model, akin to Action Man army vehicles of yesteryear, totally unique too. As soon as I saw this, a light bulb went ping! Thanks Toy Polloi! Great vid and inspirational. If I build it, I'll upload a pic.
Luna is beautiful, I adore kitties!
I don't think Sindy would like her new Halo Warthog, but you never know, might be great at getting parking spaces and intimidating her friends in pink Range Rovers and VW Beetles!

I just got to the cat part of the vid.
See-- you missed out having the giant moon cat approach the buggy.
And 500 tons of cat hair (We have 3. I know my sheds. :D )

I love how this turned out! and the fact that the project doesn't require snipping up toys or cutting sheets of styrene makes it all much less daunting as a project. I find myself stalling on things I want to customize because I end up afraid I'll just further destroy them. (Also, Luna's great. My Missy does the same thing!)

Have you seen any other old toys that could be redone to fit classic Star Wars 4,5,&6? As always, great video, my son and I Laughed when the action figure stole the Barbie dolls vehicle! “Get lost girls!”

Talk about a recycling of toy moulds! Nice creation, mate!
And while we're on the subject, I was born in the 1990s and I was eight in 1999 so everything that happened in said-year was far different from the actual show itself which may in sme cases be confusing. If you see the Kevin Costner film The Postman, the film is set in the apocalyptic year of 2013 so nothing predicted in the film actually came true and neither did 2015 according to Back to the Future Part II or Street Fighter 2010.

I think Luna wants to know when you're going to make a car for her.

Could this be the first time you've used a Lego aerial as an aerial?

My sister had that Sindy Buggy and the inflatable tent. I wonder if it is still in the loft at mum’s house?

The moon buggy in space 1999 reminds me of that green fisher price adventure people ranger jeep thing.. what was that 6 wheeled vehicle by the way?
