I'm very glad she is in remission. I am across the pond, but my Aunt and Uncle live in England. Unfortunately I lost my Aunt to cancer. My Uncle is still alive and there. But I get it. Enjoy the playing and keep it close
Hey James! First off, thanks for opening up and sharing. I’m happy to hear your wife is recovered and here’s to it staying that way. Second, glad you got your amp back. Your first Rift video inspired me to purchase it and I just received a month ago. It’s inspiring and amazing and I’m glad you were able to get it back.
Firstly, kudos for making this video and opening up in the way you have. It's brave and honest in equal measure and I applaud you for that. I'm really glad that your wife is doing well and I hope that the recent scare can be addressed quickly. Now to the amp. I have to say that, in my opinion, it's always been one of the best amps that you've featured on your channel. It hard to fault in many ways and has bags of character. I absolutely love it and would like to own one myself one day. So nice to see the two of you reunited. :-) I need to pick your brains on something if that's ok, so I'll get in touch via the method we've used in the past. Keep up the great work!
Good decision James. I bought my ALS based largely on your great videos and have never regretted it for a second. Not only is it great at bedroom levels, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Aynsley live putting it through its paces and it sounds epic whichever guitar he’s playing . Hands down the best amp I’ve ever owned. Nice one man, I’m pleased for you.
Well done James, beautiful tone. Thanks for sharing your personal story. Wish you and your wife all the best for the future. Keep up the fantastic playing.
Great introspective video James and awesome news you have the AL Amp back in the house 🤘 Can you please do a lesson on the Gibsons complete 12 bar blues you finished this video with. It was fab and a perfect example of something I’d like to learn from the vibe you were recording. Thanks in advance! 🙂
Glad to hear your wife is better. Your channel is focused a lot around gear, which I love. But I have to say ... your plating ... man! Amazing!!! And it's not just great technique but really emotive stuff, great to listen to just as music (as opposed to being a guitarist "analyzing" a peer). Keep it up, please! And here is to good health for you and your peeps.
Thanks for sharing James. You can definitely see development in your playing over the years. Really enjoyed the feel and soul of that intro in particular. I'm autistic and can relate to some of what you shared about the connection to gear. I always enjoy videos like these about a musicians journey of self-discovery and emotional stories and ties to their instrument's.
Hi James, good to share as the old adage says “a problem shared is a problem halved”. I was about to get my ALsig just before Christmas and when I heard you say you were selling yours I wondered why ……;. Looking forward to hearing you use it in your demos. Have you been to the Beefy Boys in Cheltenham?
That amp sounds bloody amazing. Glad you got it back. More than any other amp you have that one seems to suit your style the best in my opinion. All the best to you and your family.
Yes! Love this amp. Haven’t bought it yet. But I will. And No! Nothing silly at all about sharing the deeper side of your reflections, intuitions and basest need-guitar-now instincts. This is some of the stuff that we can identify with most. Good to hear that your wife’s doing better and that this other beauty is safe and sound back at home with you as well.
Ah, awesome mate They are bloody amazing things - your videos inspired me to get one of my own and it’s still the sound I hear in my head. Edit: thanks too for the chat, your channel is awesome because of the gear and the playing, but also because of how open / honest you’ve always been ❤
Sorry to hear about your wife. Glad she's doing good! Do you still play that little Gibson Falcon? I have a chance to buy one here in Nashville. Now that Gibson has re-issued a Falcon... I was wondering how you still liked the vintage one. Is there anything I should watch out for when I try it out? Thanks!
I can also relate to your latest thoughts about all the gear coming and going. I always thought to myself when I come back from the US I will stop (GASing ;-) because the time and money is not sustainable for me, especially back in a small and uber expensive guitar market like the UK. I'm still a sucker for it though, with the JL Sig Amp for example 🤣 This week though I think I’ve finally got there… I traded my Imperial amp and LP Special for a used ML 57 GoldTop. I am not saying I won't trade ever again, but I've got the collection element of my brain pretty much complete and realise the only reason to continue would be to start a new collection within the collection which doesn't fit what I had in my head for the last 10 years and that would be a silly leap too far. So I would say let your fractious GASing come to a natural conclusion but it's got to be based on some personal idea/boundary in your own head and use that as a reason to focus on musical creativity with minimal GASing going forward. As you say, when you have the luxury to get whatever, whenever, the effect/excitement of getting new gear fades fast anyway, and you're left thinking what's the point sometimes. We need to remind our ourselves the gear is just an introduction to getting the truly rewarding hits from playing the music and we have to be honest that there's a lot of crossover in all the gear we hoard ☺
Very brave and open video to make James, I'm glad your partner is better and honestly, keep the Rift, I could only dream of owning one. p.s. For anyone who has never heard Ansley, please, please check him out, he is a bona fide working musician, not to mention an incredible guitarist who probably deserves more recognition (and a near 4 grand amp).
Ah the regret of selling gear.... Isn't that just part of the GAS? And the funding of the GAS?.... I can hear that the amp suits you, your playing style. Never forget; it's always about how you hear it in your head! The hard part is making the sound in your head real!!! Enjoyed this
Can I buy it the next time you sell it? 😂 Been on my own amp journey. So much Gas about Bartel and Two Rock, partly due to this channel. Owned both (CRS and Roseland), and Friedman, Fender Handwired, TK Imperial and Carr. The Carr Super Bee stands out for home use by a mile. And the Friedmans sizzle with high gain like nothing you’ve heard. Sadly I always sound like me is what I have concluded. Buy a nice amp and spend the rest on lessons!
I was really conflicted when you let this amp go-on the one hand, you have the right to make whatever gear choices seem right to you, but not only is it a great sounding amp . . . As you mentioned, you’re on a first name basis with the guy whose signature is on the panel, one of the best guitarists on the planet has been on this channel and you call him a friend. If that doesn’t create a sentimental connection with gear, I don’t know what might. Anyway, glad it’s back. And great to hear about your wife’s health.
I sold my Rickenbacker 360v64 12 string and have regretted it. Everytime I had put it on, i felt like I was playing a Cadillac of a Guitar, just the way it was Made, and it had it's particular SOUND for sure.
While not advocating for illusionary relationship from social media, I must say that for every 10 people who find "personal" content irrelevant, there are a 1000 who are helped by, if nothing else, simply knowing they are not alone in the struggle of life. A bit of a personal video this time - I’m not sure it will interest everyone but thanks for watching if you do. Cheers!

Thanks, and congrats on the amp 😃
IMO that’s the sound. I prefer this to all the other amps you’ve demoed. Also really loved that opening jam.
That into is some of your most soulful and expressive playing ever. Glad to hear the news about your partner.

one of the best Tones you got there in the beginning :)
Thanks, yeah really got on with that sound!
