It’s more of the what if aspect. Dudes getting old and no telling which direction steam could take 5 years from now if he was to pass away. Console games are designed to work on an entire generation.

    • @misteryeen
      @misteryeen หลายเดือนก่อน +7

You can only work with a motherboard chipset so much before needing to replace that for use with newer/different CPU generation/brand if upgrading.
Then you have to consider if so much use on a power supply denotes buying a new one, especially if you need more wattage than previously.
Then you probably should get around to upgrading the RAM since it's slower and last gen at this point.
Then ya obviously gotta drop a newer, probably more power hungry GPU in, unless you're rocking a flagship GPU from a few years back.
Then you look at it and say: "nice, didn't have to replace my case, but damn I probably should anyway".

another big advantage is that your not forced to buy the whole device at once. take your time and hunt for deals on parts. when you have a good setup you can decimate a console with just a GPU upgrade. note timing is important. GPUs have a 2 year release cycle buy a flagship card near end of it and you could easily be stuck with a hot potato.

Not really. A high end GPU may lose about half its resale value shortly after you buy it because the new GPU generation drops, but even my 6900xt has between a $450-550 resale value. It also still performs exceptionally well in most titles. Due to fsr and dlss even the lower end gpus are keeping their resell value as they can take advantage of upscaling.

    • @JVPlayz96
      @JVPlayz96 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can take your time to save up but it depends on whether the upgrade you are making is a generational one or not. You may have to buy a CPU along with that GPU to avoid bottlenecking if upgrading. Depending on the generation of the CPU, you may need to buy a whole new MOBO cause you're now buying the CPU to avoid bottlenecking and if the old cooler you have is not compatible with the new CPU/MOBO you may even need to buy a whole new cooler or a bracket that can make the cooler compatible with the new CPU/MOBO. Also new RAM as well due to new generation MOBO/CPU. Also if you don't have a PSU that has enough power to support the GPU you may have to buy a new PSU as well. So basically a whole new build besides the SSD/HDD unless you plan on keeping your old rig and building a whole new one, you'll have to buy one of those at the very least too.

I still think ya'll underestimate the yearly costs of paying for premium internet. $80 up front or $120 a year if you go monthly, let's be conservative and say five years per console lifespan, that's $400. On top of your $500-$600 console, putting it at an actual grand ($1000) per generation. That's before the cost of your games, and let's be real, all PC gamers have played cracked games either because they can or times are tough. That's without the insane sales Steam has several times a year where the big publishers knock 30%, 50%, sometimes 80%/90% off their games. I know console gamers like to huff and puff about "stealing", but it's a reality and an optional bonus we engage in. *shrug*
I had purchased maybe six games total on Steam over the course of fiteen years for my PC (couldn't play online with a cracked copy and they were multiplayer only). I pirated literally every other game I played. It wasn't until Steam Deck that I started buying them out on convenience and I'm currently sitting on a 436 game library with a grand total of $1005 spent according to my account. That's basically $2 per game. There simply isn't an argument to be made. PC's are cheaper in every way. The implication that a console is "close" when I still can't overclock it, change out the memory safely without harming the device, or add more than 5TB without making it unstable, is not in fact "closer" to PC. Its still about as far as its always been.
Lets look at the PS5 pro.
It has: 2tb of memory rated around 7200mbps transfer speed
    - 4k 120hz, HDMI 2.1 out support (supersampled from 1440p usually)
    - Expandable up to 5TB m.2 storage.
    - CPU clocked to 16 threads @ 3.5 Ghz (3.7 turbo boost avg)
    - No memory bus expansion slots or PCIE slots
    - no dedicated DAC in its sound card for higher audio processing
    - 16GB of GDR6 VRAM at 440gb speeds
    - wifi 6/7 and costs $499-799
Lets look at my pc now! Mind you its 5 years old almost.
It has: - 8TB of memory and room for about 3 more hard drives and 1 more SATA/ SSD and 1 m.2, so in theory, 500+ TB is available to place.
    - Expandable power supply and memory, 4k60 out, 90hz refresh rate, and choices to expand that
    - CPU clocked at 8 cores/16 threads @ 4.41 Ghz (4.6 Turbo with a tower cooler + 4 fans vs a consoles 1 or 2 fans and no wider cooler)
    - Plenty of room for extra crap
    - Dedicated sound card, dedicated audio DAC, and optical/digital audio and video in/out, plus DP and HDMI 2.0
    - 6x USB v3.0 slots and 2x USB-C thunderbolt ports (consoles have neither or 1 of each nowadays)
    - 24GB of GDR5 memory vs the pros 16GB of GDR6 VRAM
My pc cost me $550 not including monitor and speakers.
Tell me again how those are close? I'll wait.
Its like 60% of the way there vs PC. Close and almost only count in horseshoe and throwing grenades.

PCs are way cheaper than consoles if you know what the hell you're doing. I once demonstrated how easy a good PC is to make by showing my friends a mockup PC made from ebay parts.
      The specs were:
A dell optiplex 9020 base PC which had a 3.5 GHz processor, 8 gb of ram, and a 500 gb drive already in the PC.
      An rtx 2060
An extra 16 gb of ram
      And a 1 tb SSD
The PC cost less than $350 including shipping
Think about that $170 you saved plus the online service.
Two AAA games and a few indie titles and, depending upon how long you play online, up to $500 more!
Additionally, you can upgrade it and sell the old parts instead of buying a new console.

My "new" PC is an i7-12700k, 3080 Ti, and 32gb 6000MHz DDR5 memory (You should go for 32gb if you're using DDR5, it can actually be more cost effective than 16gb. If you're using DDR4, you probably won't need 32gb, but for what I do, I need it.)
Originally, I had just swapped my 2070 Super for a 3080 Ti, then a few months later I bought new memory, motherboard, and CPU. I was able to then put the "original" PC back together in a new case, and it became my living room PC.
I wanted to specify the two different PCs because it's something that's worth pointing out. Your parts will never be obsolete. They will always have a purpose. People who upgraded from PS4 to PS5 probably never touch that console again, because it's not getting the newest games. Don't even get me started on PS3s going to landfills.
But with PC, my "old" PC hardware still works just as well as it did before the upgrade. While my biggest reason for PC gaming is that my new hardware can still play my old games, my old hardware can still play my new games as well. Eventually, way down the road when I upgrade my 12700k and 3080 Ti, this PC will be the new living room PC, and my 8700 and 2070 Super might go to my niece, or I might turn it into a server for local cloud storage.
I'm down to answer more questions if you have any. I've spent a lot of time figuring out what I like more about each platform lol

@@kreeperskid dude, Thank you so much for this detailed response; you explained everything excellently. Of course, the main reason I wanted the PC is that I can play older games without replacing the pc, and I was pleased to hear that the new hardware can run those games. That’s exactly what I wanted. I’m really satisfied with your answer. I just want to ask you the total cost for the whole process from the pc to the building & upgrade?
Also How often does it need to be upgraded, and what are the expected costs for each upgrade? Can one upgrade run almost every game perfectly, or at least most of them?
Lastly, is there a team that knows what each game needs to run perfectly, where you can just specify the type of game or its name and they do the job for you?
Or do you need to do it yourself and buy each part of the upgrade individually?
I'm asking this because I'm not familiar with it and can't figure out which upgrade parts I should buy. So it would be nice and easier if a team could do it for me for a fee.
      Thank you once again.

At $80 up front per year, or $120 per year if you pay monthly, while using conservative estimates and saying five years per console generation, that's about $400 IN ADDITION to your $500 console bringing it to almost a grand. That's before the cost of games and such. Like, bare minimum. The argument that PC's are more expensive is made using very substandard financial understandings. Sure, up front, right now, you're paying about $650 ($500 for the console, $10 for the internet, $60 per game, let's say you got two games) but in the long run you're paying out the ass. People who buy consoles don't think of money like that though, because most folks live paycheck to paycheck. Long-term investments are simply calculus/theoretical physics to them. I wish folks would consider taking the money they would normally use to buy their laptop (everyone has a PC/laptop these days), tack on the cost of the console they'd usually buy, and get themselves a decent rig instead.
