This is amazing. My daughter pulled the tape too hard and the spring came off and lost its recoil power. I watched a bunch of videos that didn't help, I was gonna throw it away. Then I watched this and it was perfect, step by step with so many tips. If this is how you fix things when you don't know what you're doing, you rock lady ❤❤
I’m 69 years old and a mechanic by trade and can usually figure out how to fix almost anything but evidently not a simple tape measure and so I watched several videos on repairing a tape measure but to no avail till I found your video, thanks for help you rock young lady, God Bless and Merry Christmas!
Fantastic!!! Amazing!!! Wonderful!!! Sensible!!! Complete in minute but necessary details in comparison with many other videos. A lot of thanks for the video.
Dani, YOU are awesome! You actually showed me how to fix what i was doing wrong! Wind the spring with the curvey part towards the inside of the coil. Once I did THAT, my efforts FINALLY paid off! The spring metal needs to have the OPPOSITE curve than the tape measure itself!
Great way to learn how-to , by watching someone learn how to . I've seen it done so reckon I'll attempt to fix my old tape with the same issue though I still dread working on things that can go sproing ! Thanks for the video.
My husband pulled too hard and messed up the spring on our small tape measure that we keep in our kitchen drawer. So he tried to figure it out and got frustrated and was ready to throw it out. I told him, "you tube!!". I love to learn how things work. I always wondered how it retracted back in. Thank you so much!!!
I don't know where are you from ...But I really thank u ....I had bought a tape from my neighbour later on it had been broken ...so I was so afraid of this....where my neighbour will scold ..later I watched this video and it was repaired on its original ..... Thank you so much mam❤️
I am trying to fix a tape measure that I extended way to much, I almost threw it away but I though maybe I could fix it and we’ll I couldn’t figure out how the spring in the middle worked but now I totally got it thank you so much! This took me 20 minutes haha oh well
This was very helpful. No butterfly clamp and three attempts. (trying to figure out the spring tension placement point). But it works--just like it did before one of the grand kids got to it.🙂
i wish i had the amount of patience and skills like you because i couldn't do it but at least i managed to put it back in. my little sister accidentally took the entire tape off trying to see how long it is. :')
Winding it up is a PITA and the first two times I didn't do it enough. I still have a few feet that won't retract automatically but next time I open it up I'm gonna nail it. I have a feeling that an under wound spring is the source of most failures anyway.
Hi can you help me please, my tape mechanism is rotating in the opposite direction on its own, I mean if I close the casing after winding up the tape, it comes out on its own.
Thank you. Folks need to see women with the glitter nails and kiddo’s playing in background fixing things. Too many silly gender “rules” holding women back.
I am not successful and can't get this repair to work. The tape doesn't retract or pull inwards. Could you write a step by step of the procedure. Is it the inside of the coil spring having to go into the grove of the spindle or is it the direction of spin I'm getting wrong. Help please otherwise regretfully I'm bining the tape
I just found out that when the coil came out it broke the plastic thing around it so now I will have to buy a new one unless I can figure some way to fix it
Thank you thank you so so much cause im gonna be dead meat to my uncle because i broke one of his oldest tape measure maybe im the first 12 year old to fix a tape measure

This is amazing! Been looking all over TH-cam for someone who fixes the unwinded spring and shows you how. Thank you!

I watched a few videos but was not able to fix it,but this video helped a lot to make me understand the rolling mechanism. Thanks!
I'm glad I could help somewhat
My 48 hours of pondering ended beautifully here. Thanks !!

Superb live demo. Loved your commentary and the background sound of a baby talking to itself :)
The clamp method to hold it in place and then you let it go and back to square 1 😂😂😂 gets me. Hahaha. Great job btw!

Great video and "background" noises! LOL!
Too clever! I've always thought it was neat to see how things work inside!
Elizabeth Ristow me too! Although, Most times I would put them back together and have mysterious "extra pieces" 😁

This was a huge help. A friend's daughter pulled too hard on a tape his grandfather gave him. These must all use a very similar mechanism.
the mechanism hasn't changed since 1868
Thank you! I managed to repair a 16' tape measure following this video !
Very glad to help
Thanks alot you saved my 50 cents.
Way to go! (But, I love your baby sounds in the background!!!)
🙏🏽Finally this solved my recoiling problem after watching a dozen of useless videos out there.
Great job, so clever Lady.
Well done, Dani!

Thank you so much for this video, I just now repaired my measurement ❤❤. It was helpful 😅
So nicely explained, tks a lot mam, this is Baljit Sheoran from Ambala,India.
Thanks! My little Stanley measuring tape that I have on my keychain just came apart and I can't seem to find a new one. Now maybe I'll try to fix it!

Fantastic! I'm glad you found it helpful
I am impressed with your enquiring and practical mind, and the video.
dieseltaylor thank you! I love finding out how things work.
Siiiimp
thanks a lot.....your video helped me a lot.
Great job. Keep it up.
Thanks for the video I really needed to use a a similar mechanism to solve a another retracting system I was working on.
Hi can you help me please, my tape mechanism is rotating in the opposite direction on its own, I mean if I close the casing after winding up the tape, it comes out on its own.
Very good I like it but I have to rotate in opposite direction after fixing the tape to generate spring action
I put it back together but Mine started working the opposite way, instead of pulling it in it started to push it out 😔
Thank you so much for this video, it helped me repair my over extended measuring tape.
It was very helpful thank you
And you did it while holding the camera some how. It didn’t look like the camera was mounted. Great job!!
OZYM1 thank you. Haha. Yes. Was holding the camera for half of it. In the second half, I have it propped up on a box
Thanks a lot. First time my tape got repaired
I love this woman............
Fantabulous work !
Thank u very much for your helpfull tutorial madam 💐💐💐💐💐
Thanks. You help me to understand how it works.
Nice video presentation 👍
A grate job..!!!
Thanks for showing the full coil. My coil broke in half. So can't fix it. oh well.
How hard would it have been for them to rivet the tape to the spring🤔
It was a cheap tape. They were probably trying to save pennies on manufacturing
Thank you. Folks need to see women with the glitter nails and kiddo’s playing in background fixing things. Too many silly gender “rules” holding women back.
How can I open a stanley eurolock measure without screw
I want to repair but I can't open it
So clear. Tnx
I am trying to fix mine right now and I cut myself on two fingers but it's not bad, I cut myself on the middle thing but I am fine
nice repair video thanks for sharing

Note to self: DO NOT let go of the tension recoil when removing it
Omg...ur genius....u solved my million dollar question
Awesome!
Nice video
Hi cool people, please be careful with the tension it can break into pieces. I got the cut from it.
thanks!!! you saved me
Thanks! I think I fixed mine too. Maybe!
Thanks ! 🌺
Thanks for sharing
Great video...took long though...but we got to the end eventually.
I just found out that when the coil came out it broke the plastic thing around it so now I will have to buy a new one unless I can figure some way to fix it
Sometimes it's worth it just to buy another one.

if your measuring tape won't go back in, pull it out 3 or 4 feet and then let go. that worked for me
