Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this1 I just received a set for my '07 VFR and spent most of the afternoon struggling with aligning it, in vain. Your video should push me over the top.
Sorry for the late response, I must have missed this comment. My bike is currently in storage (Canadian winter) so can't check the colour. The red color of my bike is very close to a Ducati red. The V35 cases come in a variety of colors... I just selected the red ones (there was only one shade of red). They seem to match the color of the VFR perfectly.
That rear cross bar is the only thing that gives me problems each time the system is installed or removed. I'll give your cable ties solution a try.... as soon as the snow leaves this part of the world. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for sharing a very thoughtful review. I'm getting these bags for my CB500X for a little European adventuring next year, and I think they look smart. Soft panniers are all very well but I worry if something is flapping around or about to get chewed up by the back wheel :)
Love the paint job. Was thinking about getting my v35s painted to match my VFR as well, definitely going to happen now having seen how good yours look.
You would have to look on the Givi site and look for the Monorack made for your year/model of VFR (search by bike model under specific mono rack). I believe there is only one that will work with each model of bike. I think all the top boxes then can attach to the Monorack.
Hi, I realize this video is from a long time ago... but I'm hoping you can answer a question for me on the mounting brackets. I just bought a 2008 VFR800 and want to add luggage. The previous owner had removed the rear fender and installed an aftermarket small license plate bracket which relocates the light and tucks both up in-between the mufflers. My question is about the part that connects the brackets to the fender. If that were NOT installed, would the cases still be held securely? It seems like that part would maintain the integrity of the structure if the bike were tipped over, but in regular use it seems it may be possible to do without. Or would the process of attaching the bags cause issues? I know you can't answer definitively, but curious about your thoughts on the question.
Hi there, thank you for posting and for explaining some of the issues you had with installing the hardware. Its good to know what your up against. Thank you!! JB
I had these when I had vfr, and they work well I suppose. My problems were: 1. fitting it in the first place was a nightmare, I don't know why but it took some effort to get it to line up. I never bothered taking the hardware off in the end. 2. the shape/size - they are designed fatter at the bottom to follow the contours under the rear and supposedly make the whole set narrower, this isn't the case on the vfr because of the exhaust, so the brackets and therefore the boxes are not that close to the bike, so to me seemed incredibly wide. Still, I did a few 1000 miles with them, never a problem, totally waterproof, very stable, plenty of space. Warning, don't do what I did first time I used them, forgot I had them, went through a gap at a service station, and bashed one on a post........just a scratch - that's how tough they are.
Nice video! .. however, your forward brackets are installed incorrectly.. they need to be bolted to the "inside" of the pass. peg struts. That is most likely why the fasteners are hard to engage as they are most likely in a slight bind. Hope this helps, I'm a fellow viffer owner :)
This guy speaks the truth, previous owner cocked this up on my bike too, didn't notice it for ages then I had to take them off, 30 minutes of face desking later I finally got them off, switched the bracket around and while they aren't easy to put back on they are easier.
+MrLightning1200 Sorry, I had replied to your post a year ago but for some reason it never revealed itself. You are 100% correct. The frame fits on much easier with this change. I still, however, had to remove the plastic extension in the license plate bracket in order to get the rear metal bracket to fit. After I made the change you note, I went from taking 20 mins to install the bracket to 5 mins.
i have my panniers, and they came with the PLXR166 kit, but i wanted to ask if Givi supplied longer bolts to use on the mounts that attach on top of the pillion grab handles please?....as i dont have these.
Love the luggage. Have it for my 2004 VFR! Can you tell me what the make is of your tinted windscreen? I love it, and would love to pick one up for mine.
good vid, thank you! i had originally discounted getting "aftermarket" side bags.....i guess because i'm finicky......but these actually look like a good option! especially since OEM hardbags are so hard to find.
The Givi Part number is Z2711R for a replacement key. It's on their website with an MSRP $7 Any Givi dealer should be able to order it for you. In a pinch a 1/4" Allen wrench will also get them off, but I wouldn't do it too often for risk of stripping the bolt.
Just a question but can you fit your full face in them? I have read that they should fit but have never seen a vid/picture of some able to. thank s for the great video.
+Patrick Mullally Sorry for the late reply. The answer is that it depends on the size of your helmet. My helmet does not fit (mine is an XL). I don't think a size Large would fit either.
If someone really wanted to, could they take off the rack while the bags are attached? looks like all three quick-release bolts are accessible from the exterior. Givi's permanent design hides these by making the bolts recessed behind the bag. Thinking about these for long trips . .
roundingcorners Yes and no. It would take a great deal of effort to get the rack off with the bags still attached. There would have to be gold or diamonds in the bags for someone to do that. The bags are great for long distant trips.
Ståle Luther I bought them online from a shop in Montreal Canada. They had all the VFR colors so I just selected the Givi bags that matched my bike. This was sometime ago and I know longer remember the name of the shop.
Thanks for the video. These bags are SOOO much bigger than I anticipated.. Little disappointing :( Anyway-- any chance you could demo them in the rain to see if they are waterproof?
Can you take a look at the invoice and tell me the art. number of the GIVI Hard bags? Is your colour also R157 ( that's the colour number you can find under the seat of the bike). They are difficult to find, maybe I have found them in a store in Germany, If your colour is also the same of my colour (bike) I am sure than. Hope to hear from you soon.
Nice vid. I'm in Ont. as well. I am planning on getting my license in 2013 and have done a lot of research on bikes. Adventure riding seems to fit me well. So the KLR650 is a bike I'm thinking of getting but the VFR800 is also a possibility as well. I know it isn't a adventure bike but I do like it. Just wondering how that bike has been for you? Positives and negatives. How is it for insurance? Thanks
Canadian owner: How are they in the wet? " I don't know, we'll see in a few months".Irish owner: How are they in the wet? " We'll see in a few minutes".
Thank you for posting this. It's great to be able to clearly see where and how everything connects with this set up.

***** Thanks! This seems to be the standard red tint colour on VFRs in Canada. If placed beside a red Ducati, it's the same identical red.

Do you notice the bags alot when filtering between traffic?
great video thanks, i am looking at buying my first set for my 02 vtec
Holy Shit, is this Captain Drone?! Love your content. I’m thinking of buying an old VFR800 for touring and this came up in my research 😂
Yup, this was one of my many TH-cam channels from the past.

+John Andrews It has been awhile, I can't recall for certain. If your bolts are not long enough, then GIVI must have included bolts with my kit.
Where did you bought these ? I am looking for these but I can not find them in Belgium

if you lose the triangular key/tool...any suggestions...I wrote to GIVI USA and their answer was NO

They were purchased from a store called "Canada's Motorcycle Store".
Will those mounts work with OEM sidecases?
I have the factory bags and these appear to be close to oem.
scoleman73 I saw elsewhere that the OEM cases are made by Givi. Not sure how true that is but they do look very similar!
Thanks for the honest review!

Hello Adventuredude! Can you please let me know where you got the matching color panel for your Givi V35 case?
Ståle Luther I bought them online from a shop in Montreal Canada. They had all the VFR colors so I just selected the Givi bags that matched my bike. This was sometime ago and I know longer remember the name of the shop.
Thanks :-)
It takes a little while to get comfortable with knowing how much space you have when moving between tight objects, like cars in traffic.
Thanks for the video. These bags are SOOO much bigger than I anticipated.. Little disappointing :(
Anyway-- any chance you could demo them in the rain to see if they are waterproof?
Thank you, glad you found it to be of help.
I know this is an old video, but I just store my brackets INSIDE the bags when they are not on the bike, dont need that extra bag.

Nice review.. Just bought the same hard bags :)
Excellent video. Really informative. Thanks for the effort.

Glad I could be of help.
Nice Video Man!
So true, yet I'd trade my dry weather for your nice twisty roads.
nice review. thanks for sharing
Nice, thanks for sharing.
Looks great..
It is a model by ZERO GRAVITY. I believe it is a Double Bubble windscreen.
Canadian owner: How are they in the wet? " I don't know, we'll see in a few months".Irish owner: How are they in the wet? " We'll see in a few minutes".
+TheMATTYB1234 Nice one :)
this is cool
Un fiore all'occhiello del Made in Italy! :)
Super ❤❤🤔👍👍
I spotted a drone ...😁
"don't know how they are in the rain, guess I find out in a few months" ... easy to tell, you're not living in Ireland :-)
Хороший мотоцикл!!!!
Am I the only one who heard GIVI pronounced 'geevee' instead of 'jeevee'.
:)
