Thanks for the explanation! Just to make sure I understand, are we still allowed to use Placeit or Etsy mockups we've purchased? I've heard that the first image has to be directly from the POD provider and those are usually not that great.
Here is the guidance from Etsy: If you create an original design (such as artwork or a pattern) that a production partner prints onto a base item (like a t-shirt or mug), you may use a stock photo mockup to illustrate the end product buyers will receive. Therefore, mockups you generate yourself should be fine as long as they accurately represent the end product ☺️
Hi Meg.. I have a jewelry shop on Etsy and I am a star seller… now I am planning to open a 2nd shop on Etsy which will be a general POD Apparel shop. So in this case, will Etsy again put a 90-day payment reserve on my new Etsy shop? Is there any solution to have the hold lifted faster like in 1-2 weeks if I am uploading the tracking info on time?
Unfortunately no ☹️ not that I know of. You can message them and see if they would make an exception or shorten the hold,but I haven’t heard of people having luck with that yet. It’s just a percentage of the revenue and you should get those funds once tracking is added, but definitely annoying still since you have to buy the product first.
What if we use a mockup for the first image but put the actual personalization text on it instead of a place holder. Another TH-camr made a video today and said the mockup with the actual “words” should be fine. I’m so confused now!! It seems unrealistic to purchase a sample of every personalized item in one shop.😅😵💫
I admit, the verbiage that Etsy used in the article is kind of confusing!! 🫤 I assume you should be okay, but they called out personalized items into their own category, so it’s probably safer to slowly start updating those images. But realistically speaking, most most ups are pretty good so it will probably pass as a “real image”
Yeah, my understanding was that you can still use a mockup as long as your placeholder text doesn't read "Custom Text Here" or something similar but instead you add an example of the text and your supporting images can show how to customize the item.
Etsy will never walk away from the high volume revenue POD products create. I think Etsy should just give the POD peeps their own website and give back handmade website to the artisans.
