The first time you go to the cinema and have the very expensive experience wrecked by other people is generally the last time you go to the cinema Add in the convenience of being able to pause and rewind movies in the house...
Some of these films I would not consider "box office bombs," but rather box office disappointments...films that underperformed. There are plenty of films that made LESS than their budgets, but you placed a lot of films that doubled their budget (I know, marketing is not considered in the budget). Not only that, but many of these films made even more money in rentals, physical media sales, or being sold to streaming services.
Chris Hemsworth made Furiosa worth watching. The Omen remake was suprisingly good, and Abigail was actually kind of funny and fun. Watching all three with zero expectations is the way to go.
@@helvis7336 true but remember The Crow was a smaller budget project, already an IP with a film series and a TV show. Rebooting it was a disaster which ended with a sort of cliffhanger. Borderlands was at least a standalone film.
It was glaringly obvious and poorly executed CGI too, the camera quality and overall aesthetic wasn’t up to scratch either, even more obvious when they put it next to shots from the original film at the end
There's also movies like Fly Me to the Moon, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Borderlands, The Crow, AfrAId, Slingshot, 1992, The Killer's Game to name some more big flops!!!!
The reason the MOUW failed at the box office was that it was available to purchase on Amazon the same time. I know because I bought it instead of going . For instance Deadpool 3 didn’t go on Disney plus the same time it was released so I went to go see it
The reason even good films bomb at the box office these days is largely due to the impact of the pandemic and the convenience of streaming services. People would rather stay home than head to the theater. On top of that, movie ticket prices have nearly doubled in the past 2-3 years, making the theater experience even less appealing for audiences. It’s a tough sell when you can enjoy a movie at home for a fraction of the cost.
Look I am going to excuse your statement because I love going to the movies with someone special. But the writing has been SO STUPID OVER THE LAST DECADE PEOPLE JUST STAY AT HOME.

Argylle was bitterly disappointing!! What a complete waste of time! The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare; however, was most definitely a master piece, and then some!!
There's nothing baffling about Furiosa's failure. It came during a period were almost every female-lead action film was a flop. It's hilarious that the video doesn't even consider that the missing element as far as the audience was concerned was not Charlize Theron, but Mad Max.
Abigail was good, the actress is amazing. The fall guy didn't have chemistry between costars though they're both amazing actors. Madam web felt unfinished Argaill was cheesy and chaotic in a good way and I loved it Everything else didn't see.
Madame Web did so poorly because the terrible writing in the trailer had it become a meme of ridicule long before the film was released. _“He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.”_ 😂😂
I don't get why The First Omen would be considered a bomb, it was amazing, the photography and story were great, the end letting you know is a prequel and also letting it open to a sequel.
As far as 'way for streaming' type of movies go, that birthing scene from The First Omen on Disney+ was quite unexpected and not exactly a family moment.

I thought Argyle was going to be a backstory about the driver in Die Hard, but I was bummed to see it was a trash spy movie. I'm glad I didn't see the others, but Abigail and Mad Max Furiosa were both really good.
You mentioned marketing several times, and considering the fact that several of these films did very well with critics and audiences, it's hard not to see marketing as the problem. Of course I'm not talking about 'Argylle'.
Horizon cost $100 million to produce and only hit $29 Mil domestic, which didn't even cover the marketing costs. It did so poorly the theater owners refused to screen Horizon 2 and the whole "saga" is cancelled.
Honestly, I was bummed by the recasting of Anya Taylor Joy as Furiosa. She's just so over-hyped, and what made me invested in the character to begin with was Charlize Theron.
I havent heard of or seen anything clueing me into the existence of most of these movies. Thoroughly intrigued for more than 80 percent of these. What is going on with modern film promotion/advertising? Gonna watch all of these except madame web this week, was unaware of all of them except madame web
Do you guys not understand how box office returns work? If a film cost £100m to make and it makes £100m at the box office, that doesn't mean it only made back half of what it needed to be in the black. You need to factor in the marketing budgets as well as the box office returns. As a rule of thumb, a movie needs to make double it's budget at the box office ON TOP OF it's marketing budget to break even, which can often go up to and beyond what the film cost to make. So a £100m movie needs to make around about £250-300m back before it earns a cent in profit. It will LOSE money if it only makes back £200m. Why do so many media outlets and content creator fail to grasp this? It's infuriating.
Some of these films on this list definitely didn't considered as box office bomb and succeed the studio expectation. For example The First Omen and Abigail wasn't a bomb at the box office but was very successful. Even Killers Of Flower Moon film lost around $20 million during its theatrical run, but made that up from home rentals. Contrastly, Apple insisted the film was profitable.
Lisa Frankenstein is probably my favorite movie of the year. Its not the best by any means. But it reminded me of like heathers meets adams family almost. Wacky and silly but sweet and relatable. Again not the best movie ever made but it will trigger nostalgia and have you die laughing. Watched with friends and without spoilers... The scene in the bedroom near the end had us rolling.
Abigail was a pretty good movie. The Watchers was ok. Furiosa was great! Better than the first one. Lisa Frankenstein was wonderful, being one the few new movies I'd watch again.
I LOVED The Ministry of Ungentlemantly Warfare. Literally (pun intended) the first James Bond prequel, with that signature Guy Ritchie frenetic action. His style is ideally suited to Ian Flemming (and not so much Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). Argyle was destroyed by Bryce Dallas Howard being cast in the lead. She was either (covertly) pregnant during film or (not so covertly) overweight, but what ever the reason for her plumpness, it made her turn as an action hero highly uncomfortable to watch. This is not meant to body shame, it is meant to point out that action roles require a certain physicality that parodies itself when performed by someone who is so clearly not physically fit.
Hollywood in general has been in the toilet for quite a few years. Way too much super hero garbage and remakes, and rehashes of old movies and tv. Almost zero originality.
I miss the times when only a handful of movies used to have a budget of 200 million dollars that used to be a big thing and even those movies felt like every dime was spent well on visuals, production designs and whatnot
You refuse to include primary reasons that certain movies fail. For my wife and me, DEI. It’s hard to stretch the mind when a 100-120 lbs female kicks the hell out of 220 lb muscled and armed men, as one example. The industry DEI hiring requirements is also insulting to better qualified actors and patrons. One director on your list has put out many movies and all of them flopped in the past 16-20 years. Not sure how he’s still allowed to write/direct moves. Then there’s the vampire, witches, viking, king aurthor, and MCU comic burn out. Not to mention all the damn remakes, reboots, and zero originality. Throw in the fact many of the executives for these movies and writers are young woke DEI supporting individuals, you have a receipt for financial disaster. Most the money are in older people’s hands like mine. The young can’t even afford rent or a home for the first time let alone movies like in your list. But does Hollywood take that into account when developing these movies, no. But hey, don’t believe me, a movie fan who stopped going to movies for those reasons. Don’t believe the horrible returns the movies experienced. But take this as a prediction and more warning, they can continue to put out movies like that that cost a fortune to make and watch in real time Hollywood continue to die. Most Disney movies have failed which is fine. But don’t put out content telling us about secondary reasons those movies failed when we know otherwise. Have a good day.
1. Don't like Mark Wahlberg. 2. Watched the First Omen in theatre; didn't really like it. 3. Ordinary Angels' trailer made it look like a 2000s movie. 4. Madame Web looked like a fan-made movie, so wouldn't even think of watching it lol. 7. When will they stop shoving theaters down our throat? I don't know if a lot of these failures are because they suck or that people would rather wait for streaming, it'd be interesting to research that
I don't think you can judge a movie by its box office. People just do not go to the theater anymore. We wait until we can just buy it because there is always something to watch on TH-cam. Ive been to the theater twice in the last year and there was maybe a dozen people there each time.

I saw it trailered twice at my local. But then it went straight to amazon prime in the uk. Maybe US box office wasn't great and so they buried it there. I enjoyed it though

what we miss is an incredible fact that such pile of bovine excrements as Madam Web was still able to get 100 mln bucks. This is true miracle for me.
Also - y'all missed The Crow and Borderlands.
Abigail was actually a fun time
I just saw The Substance. Other than my wife, there was only one person in the theater. It was a weird horror movie worth watching.
Arthur the king didn't bomb. It grossed 40 million on a 19 million budget
I remember one of the omens dropped 6-6-06. Because they kept repeating the date on the ad. Shit was annoying
That was the remake, good marketing though and the movie is not bad too
Mad max movie was pretty good. I really liked it with furiosa.
