Saw Ray Charles in person several times, once up close at Leo's Casino in Cleveland. Terrific performer with some of the greatest hits ever. But I didn't know he was this personable and charming until this video. Thanks!
I dare anyone to watch this without smiling through the entire clip. Just beautiful, and you had great chemistry with Ray. Thank you for making me smile for a little while, Dick.
Magical! I think the art of this kind of conversational approach to a talk show is lost. Dick Cavett remains a treasure to find. I only vaguely recall when it was on as a kid, but finding the stuff on here has been amazing. Keep it up!
While he had a lot of vices, one of the awesome things he accomplished was learning to play chess as part of his therapy to quit heroin....then....went on to play a grandmaster !✊
What things are you hoping to see on The Dick Cavett Show TH-cam Channel in 2023?

I envy you. I'm one of Ray's biggest fans!
Watching Ray Charles almost restores my faith in humanity.
Yet he's a stone cold racist
I love all the charm and geniality on display between these two! An absolutely delight to relive this.
I dare anyone to watch this without smiling through the entire clip.
Just beautiful, and you had great chemistry with Ray. Thank you for making me smile for a little while, Dick.
Rest in powerful peace 🙏

He's a straight up racist
Excellent video!❤
This exact performance of America The Beautiful might be the best one ever.
Could listen to Ray Charles forever....
Nobody smoother and cooler than Ray.
He's a straight up racist
LOVE THIS!
This channel/show is so satisfying. I am old enough to remember a time when people you saw on screens were more likely to be deserving of the spot.
I love this show
3:12 That Eb5 in falsetto was simply perfection.
I Don't Need No Doctor 🎶
Top fave 🏆
Also check out the version by John Scofield & John Mayer - so good.
The best way to open a show
Ahhh Dick, all that talent and music Ray had, and you talked to him About his sight for half the interview.
At first I was thinking the same, but then I really thought his answer and insight into blindness was very interesting
Or ask about why he's a racist
Can you imagine Ray Charles, Beethoven, Bach, and Chopin having a session together?! Wow!
He’s in Heaven now. And now he can see the success he has achieved during his lifetime on earth.
Two of the Best. Ever.
Ray was a straight up racist
