  • Descend into the magical Fairy Caves - dubbed “The 8th Wonder of the World.” Hidden inside Glenwood Spring’s Iron Mountain, this living cave network inspires awe. But the caverns were nearly lost to time and were closed for over 80 years - until an engineer who happened to be a caver had a vision of how to return the magic to this fantastical place.

My friends and I who were novice cavers back in 1964 and went into the Ferry caves. Those were the days of carbide lamps and you hiked up Iron Mountain. We all grew up in Glenwood Springs. I don’t remember any vandalism at that time. Very few people would go there. I left Glenwood after high school in 1968 and now live in Northern Laos where there the mountains are honeycombed with caves. One of the largest in the world is in Vietnam and n nearly as large in Laos. This video brings back many great memories. Much has changed in the valley.

I am a life-long spelunker, awakened in the fifties by a childhood trip to Ohio Caverns, a smallish cave by some standards, but home to some of the purest white onyx formations I have ever seen in my 71 years. Very glad to see this beautiful system preserved and reasonably respected. For east/ andsouthern/ systems, I recommend Florida Caverns in Marianna Florida. I went with a tour ranger there in the 80s/90s, and it is similarly decorated and public. The rivers and streams that helped create it virtually disappear underground, and reappear on the surface a few miles further within the state park that protects it. I spotted several inequities in this video, the most commercially glaring being that, while theirs may be the first alpine coaster in the United States, it by far is NOT the first in North America. I lived in Toronto in the late 70s early 80s, and the remarkable Algonquin areas had several, both the tubular rail type shown here, and also (more fun!) a trackless fiberglass tubular pipe-style similar to a bobsled run. I won't complain about the quest for anthropomorphic fetish for Ditzney-characterizing everything, the crowd they seem to be aiming toward can find Jesus imagery in burnt toast. Me, I prefer to simply enjoy the formations for their sheer zen-like beauty. Cheetos indeed.

I took off to illinois enter my first cave off the Mississippi. And caves are amazing and just like that lady said "another world" I'm a carpenter and modern day explorer. I just wanna be in this cave and see how deep it goes. Shout out to the cavers who reamped this place up!!!

I used to climb up there when I was very young in the late 80's early 90's . it was a hard hike and a fascinating place to see in a more natural state. Still so cool! Love" Adventure Mountain " better known as Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. The rides are amazing! I would recommend a trip there to anyone . 10 times better than Eliches! Love the place
