Now I realized why they stopped "taking" us to travel in Cloudy Bay! Without a doubt it's demotivating, spending hours to put a video on youtube, and as a reward IS receiving insults ... I'm sad because Glen and Oana do not deserve it. I have followed another channel (it is not of boats) that happened the same, now can not make comments, and the animals disappeared AND only Humans stayed, which carry in the "like" button. And let anyone who has the job of publishing videos cheerful and motivated, I hope that Glen and Oana do the same, because I am sure that I will not be the only one to enjoy each new video and certainly to repeat and see again.

      Mike,
Long term cruising I would go for as big as you can get. You need the space. Plus the HR53 is a VERY solid boat. Even more so that the HR54. HRs last their time. A good HR53 will be as good as a newer 42 if its been treated well

      *grins*
I am sort of catching up on your videos. I have recently--a couple of months ago--re-awakened a 37 yo dream to buy a cruising yacht and go cruising--I actually went to contract on a deceased estate boat at Sydney's Cammaray marina subject to some cattle property land that I had close to town and was sub-dividing--after spending the last 10 years 'discovering Australia in a motorhome and toying a purpose-built trailer full of 'toys' including an adventure motorcycle for some off-the-beaten-track.
Whilst there are a number of older boats which are set up for true global Bluewater cruising, it's your Halberg-Rassey and Amel which seem to have combined racing sailing efficiencies with centre-cockpit single helm keep your arses dry on those extended passages design practicalities, when getting a face full of sea spray on a Sunday afternoon sail pales when it's 24/7.
Anyway, I'm back in the hunt, but frustrated in my attempts at the moment--the lock down here began 4 days after me making the decision to find a boat--by the travel restrictions etc and there's been a couple sold already where there must have been already keen interest before the coronavirus mayhem began.
So, notwithstanding that I am not "friends and family", I am enjoying your videos for the actual sailing content, the tours at your waypoints, and the curious mix of banter between a Brit and...a Russian(?)!
      Fair winds!

@@SailCloudyBay I think that was around Jan 2018 when I would have expected to see the winter-time tourist invasion from the US. Curious.
I know that only 15% of US citizens have passports but with 300M+ that would be enough to fill up those resorts. That they were built indicates that there was a market there once, but that it's since disappeared, and I can't imagine that the 'peak season' is summer heat with the threat of a hurricane, just as here in Oz, not a lot of people travel to Cairns and the Whitsundays in our summer... as it's too bleeding hot 'n humid!
Anyway, I found the unused capacity intriguing, and a little disappointing for you both as it's 'the people' that give a destination the richness of 'colour', as I have found just wandering around Oz.
Anyway, thanks for the reply...and cheers for now.

Gypzy Jack. Before we went to the Caribbean I thought the same - as in their winter season would be like the Mediterranean beaches in summer. But it’s really not like that at all. Infact most resorts rely on Xmas/new year and US spring break for their busy times. Other than that, most places are dead.

I love watching your videos, but one thing really concerns me and that is that on all occasions whilst under sail or even motor you are not tethered to the boat nor even wearing a life jacket . What would happen if you fell overboard and you partner failed to see you go over ? if only for 5 minutes or she went down into the boat and was doing some chores. Surely this is a golden rule of sailing on the ocean. My brother watched one video in particular and he was horrified as you were up the front without a life jacket or tethered. Not having a go its just you are a lovely couple and I would hate to hear that something untoward had happened. Thoroughly enjoy your videos especially on a horrible wet Sunday afternoon. I would appreciate your view on this . Best Mark

Mark, my view is that you are probably right. But I hate wearing them and frankly if I go over the side I’m done for anyway. But trust me, when conditions are really rough, I do have it on. Everyone has different thresholds. Mine is maybe a bit to far from conservative but it is my threshold. And what a lot of people don’t realize is that Cloudy Bay is a significantly more stable platform than most yachts. I make my point, you dont see people on deck on cruise liners wearing life jackets. On my previous yacht, a little J22, I wore it all the time because even the slightest wave would destabilize the boat.

@@SailCloudyBay I was only saying for your safety , cloudy maybe a stable platform but you could slip or trip. As for cruise liners these are massive platforms that you couldn't get anyway near the sea. Anyway its your choice just take care. love the videos . keep them coming ! Best Mark
