You just wouldn't get a scene like this in modern day film. One of the greatest unsympathetic on screen massacres in film history. Arnold absolutely owns this scene in every way possible
Indeed. Look at how cold and uncaring the T800 is as he blows away LAPD Finest. The movements are so mechanical. This will never pass in today's Hollywood. How I miss the 80's
Emmanuel Williams Absolutely correct. If this was released today it would create lots of issues and controversies. Heck, some movies today get issues for small little things.
I've seen T2 so many more times than T1. But every time I come back to it I'm ALWAYS freshly shocked at two things. 1) Just how damn good it is. 2) Just how damn dark it is. I mean come on......it's basically a horror movie
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THE BETTER SOUNDING ORIGINAL MONO! :D The new sound effects suck...especially the lack of sound effects for a round flying off of him when he was going after the electrical main in 2:00 The new dvd 5.1 is horrible for this scene. As well as the shotguns in the garage chase now sounding wimpy too.. I grew up with the original mono on a VHS tape and thats whats best to me :)
I absolutely agree as I too grew up on the VHS version. Those new gun firing sound effects were ABSOLUTELY FUCKING UNNECESSARY! Whoever did the DVD version should've JUST LEFT THEM (the gun firing sound effects) THE WAY THEY WERE!
Compensating for "kick back" is almost impossible because it's far too irratic and unpredictable since the hand that's holding the gun, even though it's a machine, is not entirely still even before it fires. But then, what do I know of super computers from the future.
Reportedly director Mark Lester of the 1985 action hit Commando decided to cast Arnold for the lead role after watching this scene. It was supposedly this scene that eventually put Arnold on the path to action superstar status...
I don't care if you are a cyborg, the recoil and bullet spread on an automatic weapon like that would make it hard to be that accurate even for a real robot.
In the original English mono, the AR and the SPAS share the same sound effect until 2:51, after which point the shotgun is given its own sound effect again. In the 5.1 revision, the updated shotgun effect is applied earlier, when the Terminator blows the locked door open with the shotgun, but beforehand they still share the same effect.
@tonymontanafan92 I'm talking about the real life incident known as the "North Hollywood Shootout". It took place outside a bank in California and it was like 400 cops against 2 bank robbers with heavy body armor and AK47's with armor piercing bullets that went through almost anything. 400 cops got their asses kicked and were dropping like flies. Finally one robber's gun jammed and he decided to kill himself, and the SWAT team showed up and knocked the other guy off.
You know as I watch this scene the way Arnold moves I could totally see that Endoskeleton we see at the end of the movie working under there. The way he moves is so rigid I can actually visualize the Endoskeleton performing this massacre.
CassDaMan1138 One of the more subtle yet great robotic actions he does is the way he moves his eyes and then his head when he looks around, almost like a security camera.
Looks like Kyle wasn't a loon after alll. There's something about this movie that gets my heart pounding every time I watch it. The T-1000 chases of T2 were exciting but could never match the horror of the original. Arnold's portrayal of this super-human cyborg, yet seeming like a hateful being never gets old or non-scary to me.
OMG YES to the mono sound! 1:23 and 1:32 always bugged me since the special edition DVD. if T1 was to be re-re-re-re-re-remastered and .... re-re-re-re-re-re-released again, the mono audio channel should take first place and the edition to be called THE UNTOUCHED EDITION!
holy crap......I've seen this movie maybe a million times and I never realized until today that when he switches the magazine at 3:05 that he had both clips taped together and all he had to do was switch it around for a quick reload. I can't believe I just caught that for the first time.
The original sound of the movie fits well with the movie instead of the digitally remastered sound, especially in this scene when the guns are being fired!
@aliks18 It's an AR-18. it uses the same caliber as the AR-15. Basically it's supposed to be a cheaper and easier to maintain alternative to the AR-15. I'm not even sure if they are still manufactured at all.
@Nicksolo85 They are all T-800's except for T3 Arnold which was a T-850. Model 101 is just the designation for the physical template of the system. It can be T-1000:M-101 for Arnold as the T1000.
Whoever worked on the DVD version of this movie, I just have 1 thing to say... "IF IT AIN'T BROKEN, DON'T FIX IT!" Then again, I could probably say that very thing to George Lucas regarding some of the changes he made in the original Star Wars trilogy. Some I was alright with, but others sucked.
I think the people who made Manic Cop 2 got there idea from this scene. There's one scene where Manic Cop shoted up the police station with a machine pistol and it was awesome. It also made me think of this scene, too.
@chuckmanofgod He was a T-800. The model 101 was just the code for their outside skin. For example the 101 models of the T-800, T-850 series all looked like Arnold. While the 102 model which would be the same machine underneath would look like a different person with its flesh skin on.
@BerettaTV I noticed that too. The shotgun sounding like a machine gun. That's another reason as to why I only watch my DVD of this movie with mono sound. Mine comes with a 2-sided disc (the 2nd side with trailers + deleted scenes. 1 of which has a wounded Traxler giving Reese a handgun). I said Reese should've grabbed a machine gun so if he ran into the Terminator, he could shoot him in the face and damage the flesh (kind of like what happened to the 2nd T-800 when the LAPD shot him).
@BerettaTV Earl Boen? He's Dr Silberman; I mean the guy who Reese clobbered to get away. HE looked like the Police Officer who was interviewing Sarah in T2;
At 1:33 you see him raise up the shotgun but you hear automatic gunfire instead of a shotgun blast. The AR-18 is the only weapon he is carrying that has automatic fire not the shotgun. Seems like they messed up in the sound editing.
@vikingsmb, Yeah, I'm surprised that they didn't think along those lines. I think the army would have succeeded though. A T-101is a machine that is obviously designed with a certain type of metal and hydraulically powered....I assume. A tank weighs several tons and has very thick steel. It would definitely overpower a terminator (T-101). The Army has weapons that I'm sure could pierce the T-101....unlike the handguns that the police force has. An A-10 bullet would obliterate a T-101 as well.
No, he doesn't. In the Collector Edition, in the bonuses, you have deleted scenes. One is during this shootout, when Sarah and Kyle escape the police station. They meet Capt Traxler, on the ground, critically wounded, that gives them a .357 Mag revolver (the one that can be seen in the Jeep near Sarah when she goes for Mexico) before dying
I watched a DVD of this movie in both Mono + Stereo sound. If you watch it in Stereo, the sound effects sound more like all the guns have silencers or at least the gunfire sounds sound somewhat fake. I watched it in Mono and it was just like this video, a.k.a. the better (original) sound effects. Don't know what I'm talking about? Just try watching this DVD in both mono + stereo. You'll notice a difference in the sound effects of gunfire.
Here is a little tidbit from the extras of this movie: Lance was thinking of being the T-800 at first during the auditions but decided to be a cop later on, I wonder what it would have been like if he stayed on as the T-800?
+mansharker8 Actually it was a little different. Lance was supposed to play the Terminator and Arnold was gonna play Reese. The idea was the Terminator was to have the appearance of someone who could easily blend in to the crowd. Lance has that appearance more than Arnold does. However, Arnold found the character more interesting than Reese and ultimately got the part. Lance however was kept on and given the cop part since he'd been essential to finding finances for the film.
@SAWgnnrSG Cameron is usually a stickler for 'technically accurate stuff'(except for the 40 rounds for each pulse rifle bit) but how many rounds would you say the AR18 fired? In any case Arnie had two or maybe three mags taped together.
I saw a documentary on the making of The Terminator. James Cameron's original concept for the T800 was someone who was completely average; who wouldn't stand out in a crowd.
@borzo30 That guy who survived; he looked an awful lot like the actor playing the cop who was visiting Sarah in the Lunatic Asylum to tell her about the 'the same guy who killed 17 policemen in 1984' was now seen with her son...I wonder if it's the same actor.
@SAWgnnrSG well he's not gonna miss, with his targeting system, and ability to withstand damage and aim, so he didn't waste much ammo missing his targets either...
great scene, makes you wonder. how would Arnold's career had been if he had taken the original role, they wanted him to be kyle Reece, but he said no, I want to be the terminator. It was the perfect role for him. What would have happened if he took the Kyle role instead.
@chuckmanofgod I'm thinking on the lines of a m1 tank or in my case (uk) a challenger 2 MBT, or if he was on the dockside using a destroyer or frigate, a british exocet will take him out though! :)
If the Terminator was given instructions to kill and the fact that they knew this was going to happen, why did they not shut down the skynet in the first place instead of waiting for 2 more sequels of this film to appear before mentioning it?
I think it would have been more interesting to see two Terminators working together in this attack and swat returning fire with the rank and file officers!!
I feel the most sorry for the guy who hesitates on his last shot, and starts to run away from the Terminaotr, only to get a shot gun blast in his back.
im wondering what kind of rifle he is using on this scene ... i think is and m16 with out the back part !!! if you guys know the model of the rifle let me know !
Only this scene is better than 99% of action cinema of the last years
You just wouldn't get a scene like this in modern day film. One of the greatest unsympathetic on screen massacres in film history. Arnold absolutely owns this scene in every way possible

1) Just how damn good it is.
2) Just how damn dark it is. I mean come on......it's basically a horror movie
Yeah, the first Terminator movie was a horror movie proper.
IMO this is probably one of the best action scenes ever! Simply a classic!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THE BETTER SOUNDING ORIGINAL MONO! :D

Same here. I've been waiting a long time for the original gunshot sounds. The new ones suck.
Yup I miss the old gun sfx.
The mono was the best ever. Love the pistol sound when he shoots Sarah Connor.
I'm so glad my dvd has the old sound effects.
Thanks for uploading this with the original 1984 sound.
The guy that Arnold shoots after he killed the police chief is the guy who was originally cast to play the terminator.
The Terminator is not only my favorite Sci-Fi movie, but has an amazing score
Compensating for "kick back" is almost impossible because it's far too irratic and unpredictable since the hand that's holding the gun, even though it's a machine, is not entirely still even before it fires. But then, what do I know of super computers from the future.
Long live the original sound effects!
The soundtrack to this film is a gem.
Notice that in every terminator movie arnold ends up drivin a vehicle into a building
i just love when he gets out of the car
Old sound effects are the best, new ones sound like shit.
Yes - old gun sounds! :-) New sounds in DVD version, don't have that power.
+Antoni34 Dude I just went threw 4 videos of this, looking for this version with the old sounds lol.
0:40
Iconic!

You can see thourgh his glasses when he says "I'll be back". Great movie. This one and part 2 were the best Terminator films.
1:32 first time i heard "terrorist" being mentioned
Love when the detective tells Conner she'll be safe and there were 30 cops in the station.
30 cops killed in 2 minutes.
Guess not.
Awesome scene! Love at 3:33 he drills the cop first with a machine gun then finishes him off with a shot gun blast.....
birdman 2211 Yeah, that was awesome.
Vukovich? Yeah. You know Lance Henriksen was considered for the Terminator role?
I'm afraid of Saruh Cannuh, I was tawl dash is ear cuddle see her ples?
LMFAO!
One of the best scenes of all time. Awesome.
LOVE the sound effects for the guns in this movie. Reminds me of playing Duke Nukem 3D.
Looks like Kyle wasn't a loon after alll. There's something about this movie that gets my heart pounding every time I watch it. The T-1000 chases of T2 were exciting but could never match the horror of the original. All of the special effects in the world couldn't save the performances of the Terminators that followed. Nothing is equal to this.
OMG YES to the mono sound! 1:23 and 1:32 always bugged me since the special edition DVD. if T1 was to be re-re-re-re-re-remastered and .... re-re-re-re-re-re-released again, the mono audio channel should take first place and the edition to be called THE UNTOUCHED EDITION!
the terminator and only the terminator is relentless enough and fearless enough ta do somethin like this, wat a character
03:00 good effort mate !
holy crap......I've seen this movie maybe a million times and I never realized until today that when he switches the magazine at 3:05 that he had both clips taped together and all he had to do was switch it around for a quick reload. I can't believe I just caught that for the first time.
I was getting lots of comments in Mexican and it was pissing me off and now you know why.
The original sound of the movie fits well with the movie instead of the digitally remastered sound, especially in this scene when the guns are being fired!

In a word brutal just brutal Arnold is badass man
looks like a bad day at the office
@BerettaTV I noticed that too. The shotgun sounding like a machine gun.

*"Ultimately the only real good is extinction" - Arthur Schopenhauer*
Getting away in a Gremlin LOL!
That my man kyle Reese
That was a big WTF moment for me too. Never noticed it before.
This is the scene that defines the title of the movie!
@BerettaTV Guess not; in T2 the character's name was 'Mossberg' I think--or some other 'police shotgun' make.
@BerettaTV Earl Boen? He's Dr Silberman; I mean the guy who Reese clobbered to get away. HE looked like the Police Officer who was interviewing Sarah in T2;
I love how methodical and ruthless he is. Awesome shit, awesome movie.

Love those 1980s gunshots baby!
I used to have the same shoes as Reese.Nike Vandelizers. They were better then Jordans imo. 1984 was good times:)
Amazing movie and great action scene
@bananian Yes,he was also in T3.Have you watched it yet?
best scene ever in the movie making history
Yeah thats right - originally Lance Henrikson was considered for the part
there exists a mono dub taken from the laserdisk version, just remux the blu ray release with it
Someone needs to get the first terminator with the old gunshots on dvd!
That's because Reese has learned to disconnect pain from his body, which he also says in that same scene :)
Even back then, gigantic sunglasses were in fashion.
@vikingsmb, Yeah, I'm surprised that they didn't think along those lines. I think the army would have succeeded though. AT LEAST THE TERMINATOR WAS HONEST HE DID SAY HE WOULD BE BACK BUT HE DID NOT SAY WITH THE TRUCK XD

I love this film
@BerettaTV Really? Thanks, that's a fun bit of continuity trivia; what's the actor's name btw?
@berner your forgetting this is just a movie.
@mrblondeno2 . Did you know that O.J Simpson was originally considered to play the Terminator as well?
Best scene ever!
0:40 this is what put Gargoyles on the map.
Do you have something against people who make random comments in Spanish?
@txtrophy85, it would still be hard to defeat a part-man part-machine criminal even with upgraded weapons and sophisticated training.
Love the original mono sound on this movie. The new ST was kinda ehhh
@SAWgnnrSG
well he's not gonna miss, with his targeting system, and ability to withstand damage and aim, so he didn't waste much ammo missing his targets either...
I think this is the original VHS version. The sounds of the guns are different.
great scene, makes you wonder. how would Arnold's career had been if he had taken the original role, they wanted him to be kyle Reece, but he said no, I want to be the terminator. It was the perfect role for him. What would have happened if he took the Kyle role instead.
Jennifer Reed I heard Tom Selleck was considered to play the Terminator. Now that would have been something to see.
sclwa85 OJ Simpson's punk-ass was also considered, too. James Cameron thought that he was too much of a "nice guy" to play that particular role.
Wasn't the guy at the beginning in brown shirt Silverman in T2?
damn Kyle shoes are awesome
@Lmv2841 Maybe they were destroyed when he crashed the car inte the (first) door...?
@chuckmanofgod
I'm actually suprised they didn't bring in heavier reinforcements ending in the army having to deal with him with apaches and tanks :)
A cyborg that can wield a 12 gauge shotgun and a 5.56 rifle?
The best thing to do is run for your life...
After seeing her in T2: Judgement Day; how about picturing Linda Hamilton in this scene as the terminator?
@chuckmanofgod
I'm thinking on the lines of a m1 tank or in my case (uk) a challenger 2 MBT,
or if he was on the dockside using a destroyer or frigate, a british exocet will take him out though! :)
At the end, I always wondered why Terminator didn't just jump into a Car and chase after them.
If the Terminator was given instructions to kill and the fact that they knew this was going to happen, why did they not shut down the skynet in the first place instead of waiting for 2 more sequels of this film to appear before mentioning it?
I think it would have been more interesting to see two Terminators working together in this attack and swat returning fire with the rank and file officers!!
aol.com It would have been a very short film considering they were barely able to handle one. And God forbid that second one be the T1000
Did Arnorld cut his hair? @ the beginning he looks different
I feel the most sorry for the guy who hesitates on his last shot, and starts to run away from the Terminaotr, only to get a shot gun blast in his back.
@ShindaDesu Maybe the difference was Terminator had the Health Cheat.
I bet Arnolds script was all this: Be a near silent bad ass unholy killing machine with an arsenal to top rabo..the end. am I right? :)
@supercoop0125 I always wanted to know why he didn't just open the door...
im wondering what kind of rifle he is using on this scene ... i think is and m16 with out the back part !!! if you guys know the model of the rifle let me know !
