Hi guys, welcome to your one stop channel - Upbeat Talks.
My name is Diina from Namibia. In this channel we offer content that would help you stretch your thinking, that would make you realise that the human mind is very powerful and that once it is put to work, it will help you achieve a lot of greater things that would eventually emancipate yourself, family, neighbour, your community and your country, your continent from poverty or maximaly achieve prosperity for all.
With this video, am hosting you from Pingtang International Experience Planetarium. A planetarium hub situated in the Pingtang county, an astronomy themed town in Guizhou province, Southwest China where astronomical activities are taking place.
The planetarium is part of the science base of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), nicknamed as the "Eye of the Sky" which is the world’s largest single-aperture radio telescope and a unique advantage that has brought marvelous opportunities for economic development in the Pingtang area and in China as a whole.
The planetarium is a hub for research and astronomical activities, suitable learners or students who have interest in science and astronomy. It is also ideal for astronomers who wish to further their astronomical experience, and it is open to any other visitor on an adventure and all others who basically want to share in the Chinese pride of having invented such game changing science base. There are many rooms and auditoriums featuring different space activities such as the one where you find a huge dish showcasing how the universe behave and you would see planets and other objects in the space. Some of my colleagues paid for tickets that costed them 80 yuan to practically experience massive activities of the space.
They were given astronomer attires, boots and glasses before they enter room where sky wonders are featured. In this planetarium, you can also visit Astronomical experience hall and Tianxiang cinema to broaden your astronomical knowledge. There are also some museums about astronomy and exhibition galleries.
Visitors are shown how the radio telescope works in the FAST simulation room at the planetarium by operating a tablet computer. The FAST system actively adjusts the attitude of the reflecting surface and the feed cabin, receiving, processing and analysing electromagnetic waves, and generates data for storage and transmission.
Research says that there are other astronomical projects in the Pingtang area where students can attend astronomy classes both theory and practice. Among other activities , they learn how to install and dismantle an astronomical telescope and join camping activities to observe stars in and around the area.
Within the astronomy-themed cultural park where the planetarium is based there is Xingchen Tianyuan Grand hotel that would offer you international standard spacious rooms to give you a sweet sleep. Inside the hotel is a beautiful glass corner that sells clothing items with astronomical prints and other astronomy related materials. In the same park is a modern designed world class building known as China Tianyan Scenic Area that features astronomical related activities.
Besides, you can pay for tickets to be driven to the FAST (radio telescope) area and experience the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope situated on natural karst depression in mountains of Pingtang. One may take pictures next to the dish, like we did. The telescope was established to investigate the universe, discover pulsars and detect weak space signals among others. The radio telescope has contributed massively to rural tourism in the Pingtang county.
Astronomy is the study of space and celestial objects and the physical universe as a swhole. That includes objects we can see with our naked eyes, like the Sun , the Moon , the planets, and the stars . It also includes objects we can only see with telescopes or other instruments, like faraway galaxies and tiny particles.
Come and experience the celestial and geological wonders at the planetarium, the Eye of Sky, experience china’s rich culture and see karst landforms in Southwest China’s Guizhou province.
