  • @goddessneptune

    She doesn't seem like lolita is her style (which is fine) but for plus sized lolita clothes Maxicamam is best. I mean occasionally other brands will have pieces that will fit, if there is plenty of shirring but the above indicated brand actually has a plus sized line! (called MAM) but it IS at normal lolita princes, so in other words it costs $$$ but as a size 18/20 US I was able to get a lolita dress from them that AMPLY fit me, just to give you an idea and yes it was expensive, but the quality was also on point.
    I don't know why Japan is so anti having options for larger people. I always feel so bad for larger Japanese people (or larger East Asians in general) as it is a trend in Japan, Korea and Taiwan to not only rarely have their own brands that go up beyond say a size 8 but also for Western stores to STOP STOCKING SIZES for women's shoes at 8.5 and to stop stocking clothes with a number size from H&M, The Gap, Forever 21, ect at a US size 12 (even though all of these clothing companies go up higher in size). Like I do not understand how even in the busiest of locations in the country stores like ABC Mart (a shoe store) and the above listed western stores don't import the larger sizes, as the sizes exist and the market will exist in places like Shinjuku. I mean I know this video was not even about getting clothes from western stores in Japan, but the fact that these brands have larger sizes that ALREADY EXIST and that even the most centrally located of these stores refuse to import these larger sizes does a huge disservice to larger people in the country and also is potentially losing them a whole wackadoodle of money.
    When I lived in Korea from 2008 - 2011 I felt really bad for women who were so large they would qualify as plus sized even in Canada and the USA as I got to wear reasonably nice clothes from back home but they were often stuck wearing not cute at all oversized graphic tees and parachute pants which can't give anyone a boost of confidence when they're already being pressured every which way to be thin in order to be conventionally attractive in society. Sure Seoul had a few places that sold some ok or nice large people clothes but they were NOT CHEAP and supposed that someone had the money and time to go into Seoul and then invest in these clothes.
    Anyways, that aside LOVED the video as it did make me more aware of some options in Tokyo I wasn't aware of! Also your friend is really cute and I LOVE when friends in East Asia who can wear East Asian sizes support their larger friends (even if that friend is just "larger" in East Asia) on a quest to find cute clothes for them! (as I have been sheparded around many the time while my smaller friends have been looking for clothes and have in the meantime been lucky to find anything in these self same stores that both fit and that I like)

    • @LydiaSue
      @LydiaSue 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Michelle Hobbs I read an article from a business that is in I believe in China not Japan so I don’t know how different the customs are but the problem of not a lot of shops having plus size clothes in them seems to be shared in both countries and according to him data tells them that plus size women don’t particularly want to go in store to buy their clothes because they don’t feel comfortable trying them on in so they would prefer to order online because is more convenient then going to the store, try them on at home and if they don’t fit to return them and that way they don’t have to see anyone. I don’t know how true this is I just know that that is what the representative for that particular company stated.

    • @goddessneptune
      @goddessneptune 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lydia Tomecko it May be true that plus sized women feel less comfortable buying the clothing in person, but, I now live in China and can confirm there are WAY more larger sizes here than in Japan, both in stores and online. H and M here goes to at least a US size 16, whereas in Japan sizes for clothes with numbers, at H and M stopped at 12. The GAP in Japan was even worse. Also in China, it’s not hard to find custom and larger sizes online, while it was hard to find custom and larger sizes in Japan comparatively (and was WAY more unaffordable when you could find it). Some might point out that you can buy XXL Uniqlo clothes online, but this was only for select pieces and was pretty far from being a US size XXL. When I was in Japan the XXL pieces also were not sold in any UNIQLO store in Osaka.

      Liyu Ze I absolutely loved what you said until the last paragraph. The reason people find overweight people unattractive is because it’s unhealthy. Human beings look for health in a mate. Attraction is about mating whether we want to admit that or not. And point-blank overweight people are obviously unhealthy. Japan is just one of the few nations that doesn’t allow its people to go around claiming that being obviously unhealthy is healthy. The rest of the world has gone crazy with “body positivity” that encourages unhealthy behavior.

      If we are going by that logic, XS should be the cheapest and S ahould be a dollar more and then M should be another dollar more, so on and so forth. When Xs-L are all the same price yet still use more fabric than the previous, 1X-3/4X should also be the same price as the other 4 clothing items. Unless you want XS-$12 S-$13 M-$14 L-$15.

    • @callmewaves1160

      @@callmewaves1160 I am aware. I wear a size 2-3X. But Theres more fabric on a size Large than a size Small. I just said this but I'll say it again. If we go by that logic, sizes XS-L, should not all be the same price. A person who wears size large has a bigger body than a person who wears size small. If we go by what you are saying, XS should be the cheapest and the price just keeps raising a few dollars with every size up you go.
      What I am saying is; Im tired of XS-L people paying $30 for something, and I have to pay $45. If we want everything to be fair, make everything the said baseline price of $30. Or have increasing prices with increasing sizes.

    I wear medium american sizes, 7 or 9 in pant sizes, 6 in dress size. When i went to japan, I KID YOU NOT, I DID NOT FIT IN ANYTHING!! i bought a few cute skirts in L and some shirts, but every single cute dress i found would be very tight around the boobs and a bit at the waist... I really wanted a lolita styled dress but no luck since theyre all "one size" :(
    Thing is, im also too small for these big size shops, so even if i knew about them, it would still be too big :(

    • @bekki_31
      @bekki_31 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very late answer but: There are many Lolita shops online (also second hand) and on some of them you can say our measurments and they will make it in that size or have sizes up to like 2XL for some dresses. I got my first two Lolita dresses from 'my-lolita-dress.com'. They have many sizes and even surprise bags (what I bought) where you can get dresses cheeper. There are many Lolitas that have problems because of there breast size and I think there are a few videos on youtube about where you can find dresses that fit with bigger breasts or how to alter dresses.

      Exactly. I'm a size XL/XXL for pants in Japan and I'm way skinnier than Tiasha (but way bigger than Alex). Asian sizes are just smaller because the population tends to be smaller (many European sizes are too, I'm an XL in my country too). I usually shop at Shimamura for skinny pants, or buy man's pants in L/XL for oversize pants.

    Shimamura (and their sub-brand/store Avail) was my go to for larger clothing (I'm European L/XL size) when I lived in Japan. The collection is better in some stores than others, but I thought they had many cute pieces that were pretty similar to the trends in other Japanese shops, so I was really happy I could be trendy! They are the only chain store in Japan that have a dedicated plus size section that I know of.
    The standard GU and Uniqlo chain stores generally don't have big sizes, but some pieces and t-shirts were giving enough that I could fit in. Whenever I saw something cute I would just try the biggest size and sometimes it was a hit and sometimes it was a miss. I bought some of my favorite clothing pieces in GU! And the graphic tees at Uniqlo are just too cute with fun collaborations with for example Disney, Marvel, designers etc.
    As for online shopping in Japan (apart from international brands), RyuRyu has some of their items up to 6XL. You can just sort their clothing by the size you need and see if there is any cute Japanese style clothing that you like! I've bought the prettiest lace dress ever there.
    Edit: I almost forgot Honeys! They are also a chain store with physical and online stores and generally have a very cutesie-casual style. They only go up to LL, but with certain pieces and styles (like oversized styles) you could find some cute pieces that fit if you're an L/XL size in the EU, especially if you don't have a large bust (which was my problem most of the time).

      Japan isn't really facing the same weight epidemic as the western world. There just aren't as many plus sized folk living in that country, so retailers aren't as concerned about catering to their needs. I think about 3% of the population is overweight. I'm guessing it's mainly online, as companies don't want to use floor space on less than 5% of their potential customers.

      @@PupCake1025 I think you would be a little bit shocked. Obesity rate in japan (according to indexmundi, which is a good source for this kind of thing) is 4.3% in 2016.
      The amount of people who are overweight but not obese is much higher, at 28.6% of men and 20.6% of women.
      We need more recent readings on these things though, but I suspect things have gotten worse.
      When my partner went to japan for a month last year he saw a lot of overweight japanese people, many more than he expected. And not just in touristy areas.
      These people won't fit into the size S or M that most shops offer, so I'm guessing close to 20% of the female population needs an L or bigger.
      What I've heard about plus size shopping is that if you are looking for a specific style (and not just a basic black t-shirt) you will have the most luck online.
      Over the last 5 years more plus sized stores have been opened, I think Japan is just a little behind.
      15 years ago it was very different, if you were plus sized you would probably need to settle for very basic stuff for work and casual wear. Many people wore sweat pants and very large t-shirts if they couldn't go to international stores such as H&M.

    One thing I find a little strange with so many stores NOT having bigger sizes...is the tourist areas. Like I get it. I understand. Most Japanese are healthy and small (stupid US having so much crap in the food, where companies have to change the ingredients to ship to other countries)(and other ppl around the world don’t understand why so many here are fluffy...this is why) I digress....if it’s a tourist spot. They should have a wide range. Do they just not want to make money? I mean come on. I would totally understand not stocking bigger sizes in the more non tourist areas. So many shops are small. I just think they are missing out on millions, if not billions. Seems like a real missed opportunity for Japan’s economy. And probably many thousands of girls crying bc they couldn’t get any of the amazing Japanese fashion. It’s a real shame. They are missing out on so much more money.

    sadly i think you pay extra for the "extra fabric".. it sound silly, but i work in mens wear in australia and we charge almost double for the same top in "big mens" sizing. sad really, but this is my best bet

      The cost of extra fabric is literally negligible, pennies. Don't believe the hype. It doesn't cost 25 extra dollars to make a bigger version of a 25 dollar top

      yeah it happens on online retailers all the time especially! just the other day i wanted a 1x or 2x shirt so it would be the sliiiiightest bit big on me, for comfort, but the xl was a whole 10 dollars less. had to get the one that fit a bit more acurately instead, and i'm lucky to have had that luxury! if i were actually 1 or 2 or 3x i probably wouldn't have gotten it at all :(

    She reallllyyyy knows how to dress for her body, EVERYTHING looked sooooooo amazing on her like holy crap, I'm considered "plus size" and struggle soooooo much with how clothes look on me and finding flattering clothes. My size is us 9-11 L-XL which u can find in almost all stores besides like Hollister but who really shops there anyway lol but I've always had problems with my weight ive also been a size zero or XS before and I've always been jealous of women like her that have a real eye for clothes that are so flattering I just haven't been able to ever pull stuff like that off... as I get older.. 27 now I've become more confident and comfortable with myself and I've branched out (somewhat) lol but I'm still struggling and I just had to say how beautiful everything was, her style is amazing and those green pants looked AMAZING:)

      I'm a similar size to Alex, but a lot of my friends are quite curvaceous so I always used to feel self conscious and wore boring clothes to hide my lack of a figure, then one day I threw caution to the wind with a mustard straight fit suit from Stradivarius (they sell them in lots of colours and I think they'd suit anyone). Basically, be brave with your style and it will make you feel so much for confident in yourself. If you love what you're wearing, you won't care if someone else doesn't. If people stare when I'm wearing something wacky, I don't stop to think if they love it or hate because I'm just happy in it
