Sir the trick fails when starting with 'a' and ending with 'ab' the answer is 4 but according to the trick it will be 5.

This trick won't work for conditions say, C1: strings of length atleast 2 and C2: |w|=3mod4 where w={a, b}*
According to the formula C1 requires 3 states, C2 requires 4 states, total states required=3+4-1=6; but I can do it in 4 states only.
