  • ULTIMATE On Farm Chicken Processing Facility - Pastured Poultry Processing
    We have upgraded our on farm poultry processing facility and are ready to put it to use!
    Last year we moved our poultry processing into a building on our farm. Since then we have renovated the building, increased our processing space, added some new equipment and have improved the flow. The changes have given us the opportunity to now host some classes on our farm to teach others how to process their own birds on their farm or homestead.

    The class was absolutely fantastic!! Chuck and Saundra are special people to let us come and teach us so much. I learned so much. Including some things that I can't do. They didn't fuss a bit when I chickened out of the killing part. But I learned that this is a big job that we'd need help to do, so I can just do a different job. I learned how to hold a chicken, how to make sure they didn't make a mess before you can process them, and how much space and time it takes to process 50+ birds. Plus Chuck was amazingly patient with my 1000 questions.. It was great to talk to the other students who were interested in the same subjects and details. The devil's in the details and Chuck was lovely for sharing them. Kudos!!!

    Great organization! We processed our first batch it went well. It’s a lot of work but like you said once you have a system in place it goes pretty fast. I am not too sure if we’ll raise Cornish X exclusively though. The experience wasn’t pleasant at all.

    Very nice setup but I was curious if you guys could go over the steps regarding the regulations and how to avoid obstacles getting started with processing and selling poultry. Im sure there are many folks like myself getting ready to take the leap and get started but would like to be fully prepared for obstacles we may face regarding state and federal processing regulations.

    I have a question... When ordering your chicks what all amenities do you order them with, I see on the site they can be vaccinated for mareks and all sorts of other extras in the check out section. From an experienced poultry producer what is your advice on the extras in the online checkout area????

    I am amazed that you folk in America can sell poultry processed in such a facility. Australia is far more regulated.

    • @johnd24
      @johnd24 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some states in the US allow farms to sell whole chickens direct to consumers. Farms cannot sell direct to stores without it being processed at a facility that is certified and inspected.

    • @cameronshaw599
      @cameronshaw599 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In most states, there are 2 different evils of exemption for sale: under 1,000 birds and under 20,000 birds. There general idea is basically that it’s hard to hurt lots of people if your production is small enough. The chicken that you’re getting from a major brand in a super market is coming from a much more heavily regulated, USDA inspected facility. I would take a bird processed somewhere like this over something processed in huge processor from a large scale, CAFO-style farm any day.
