Only two people who spoke on the technical side of his music production was Questlove from the Roots and DJ Houseshoes. I studied Dilla for many years and tried to understand how he did certain techniques in his music. I got to point of failing to recreate anything he made and just thinking "This guy is simply the best" as everytime I discovered something new that blew my mind. The closest I got was the Enjoy Da Ride Beat on the Anarchy album (Busta Rhymes) I mixed those drums for days until it sounded right and the sample still wasn't chopped right. Dilla made beats in short timing and his execution was something else as he could play the drums live on the MPC including the signature swing he had. His bass was the butter on the beat and I have not heard another producer with this quality in thier sound. The craziest part of this was, the beat was made in his head and laid out using his hands and only the real Dilla heads feel the emotion he also placed within the music. R.I.P to the best musician ever.

I remember I met Dilla in LA, I think he just moved there. I was working in a gas station on Beverly and Labrea. I was behind the register with my back turned and when I finally turned around he was standing there and my jaw just dropped like WTF DILLAAAAAA!!!! And he was looking at the blunts like yeah let me get some of those swishers and I ran around the counter like oh my god Dilla and gave him a hug and he just laughed and we shook hands and I told him how much I loved his music, and he was super cool. We even exchanged numbers, cause I told him i did music too. And like a couple of days later he actually called me to hang out but my dumb ass was layed up wit a bitch and I told him we could hang another time. Man I really regretted that because when I tried calling him back I just kept getting the voicemail. So I kept trying and one day someone answered and it was his mom and she told me he was in the hospital.... I was crushed 😖 if I had only known, that would be the last time I saw and spoke to him, I would've left that bitch in the bed, which is my ex now by the way. Let's just say I really regretted that shit big time. RIP to the legend and one of my idols J Dilla! One of the best to ever do it 🙌🏾🏅🏅🏅💯

i had a 92 Mustang and a Dilla beat was on it he made it for Proof we were supposed to open for Wu Tang.. Dilla well we called him John Doe called it Let Me Piss. It was crazy and i had it on a 90m cassette. Long story short the Mustang got towed and it was kinda bad luck to me so i left it in the impound. After i thought about it maybe 2 months later I was like OHHH SHT!!! that TAPE IS STILL IN THERE... talk about shattered heart. I know the beat like the back of my hand it was back when people were filtering tough....talk about sick to my stomach
