"Steve Hillage doubtless believes his message to be as important as his medium, in which case I must confess to missing out on approximately half of the intended impact of this album.
The problem stems from the fact that "Green" focuses uncompromisingly on the arcane powers of things (surprise, surprise) green and natural, effectively alienating a good many people who, like me, are totally non-plussed by talk of leylines, Devas, and the "one vibration behind all vibration", and frankly have difficulty in getting excited at the news that one instrumental "Ether Ships" is based on the alpha brain rhythm of 10.25 cycles per second.
...That, however, is my only major quibble, since the music here, when accepted purely on its own terms, is nothing short of faultless. Hillage's concern for our ecological well-being is matched only by his care and consideration in assembling a body of music which he hopes will do justice to the theme. He succeeds.
...don't be put off by the disconcerting packaging should you spot it in your local shop. The music itself is infinitely more accessible even if it does require some patient listening before offering complete satisfaction. And just as all good things mature with age, you can be assured that Green will still be rewarding you handsomely long after the next musical fad has come and gone."

i still love steve hillage his words and music have kept me going.

Right with you on that. He was too "out there" for your average listener, which is why he only has a cult following. Of course I was introduced by a mushroom munching crowd in the seventies (which was a great time), but I was never a New Age kind of person. The lyrics & music are perfectly matched and it's a positive journey. Talking to trees and lights in the sky are just fine with me. Makes me wish I could be that way today. We could all use some of that as the planet goes to ruin!
