Some more suggestions for challenges: Only bugs, Only birds, Only water animals/fish, etc (only the squad going into battle has to contain only bugs/birds/etc) This allows for building up in between turns possibly.
You would have to run pay to win for these two. I think it could be very doable though

Just tried this and got to 8 wins on my first run, got some serious lucky ducks into kangaroo with shrimp scampi doing work for me. I won 7 in a row but once tier 5/6 animals come out it's crazy hard.

A challenge beyond this: You can re-roll as much as you want, but once you place a pet, you can't reposition it. Only if you sell and re-buy can you change the position of the pet.
I don't think anyone's going to believe me... But I played one game directly after watching this video, doing a no roll. And got 10 wins, 1 loss. Ended with parrot(5/4), fly(2/2), ox(9/8), deer(3/3 + mushroom), peacock(20/24 + garlic), all level 1.
Basically just had an early giraffe, scaled peacock and got super lucky.

I had an idea for a challenge run. You can only battle with animals that begin with the letter S. So sloth, shrimp, spider, swan, sheep, snail, skunk, squirrel, scorpion, and seal. These are available in either pack, while the snake and shark are only in the f2p pack, and the sauropod is only in the p2w pack.
What’re you supposed to buy level 1

Should be a built-in game mode, tbh, so you're only playing other no-rollers. If this game aims to stay fresh long-term, it'll need twists like this, and dev-wise it doesn't seem that complicated.
If it were its own game mode, the animals/food should refresh when bought, possibly only having one of each at a time. The problem with the challenge as-is is not being able to spend your gold all the time.
If everyone is restricted to the challenge it's no longer a challenge, it's just removing aspects of the game for no forseeable benefit. If anything people would just get more upset at a game mode that is more reliant on RNG than the main one

No roll could be a good game mode, remove the roll button, make money irrelevant, optimize matchmaking to pair players with other players in the same mode before pairing with other random players, and adjust shop roll rates to prioritize animals that better suit the game type, e.g. nerf the appearance of buy/sell meta units.

They should make challenge games. For example the devs take away the roll button in one mode like this and you only face others doing the challenge.
Wtf is the point of updating the game so much if its only playable on pc and android and the browser version blows. I only play on pc sometimes but when im on pc i would generally rather play something else. Why cant they just make it available on iPhone.
Because they're a small dev team who released a beta of their game and it very quickly blew up. They're planning on having it on IPhone by Christmas, but if they only focused on IPhone the game would die by the time it's released because of the bad meta

These runs themselves aren't going to hit late game often, I'm sure, but it seems like a good way to broaden your understanding. Like not always taking Guppy or Brimstone to work out other synergies, it makes that run a little more interesting if likelier to fail? But it'll make later unrestricted games better because you have more options. Hopefully.
I see your point but not taking something as a choice or restricting the choice in the first place are two different things. I really like the vids where he takes some non meta pets and try to make them work. But that also needs rerolling and making good decisions. If we go for just buy whats there, then i could as good watch my nine year old playing and buying the cutest pet. Sorry nothing to enjoy here for me but i am happy for everybody who likes it. No bad feelings
