This came out a few weeks after my wife died. LCD Soundsystem was one of her favorite bands, and she was so excited they were coming back. This song will never not make me cry.
I got tears in my eyes after reading this. I’m sorry about your wife. This is truly the two or yours’ song.
♥️
oh baby
Sorry to hear. Be well and always remember.
Sorry about your loss. 😢
Everybody talking about the video, but this has got to be one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard.
I found this song in a movie and it lead me upto here
I mean. It's about addiction and watching it devour a loved one.
Of course it's incredibly emotiou
@@kiprotichcornelius3989"Booksmart" brought you here
It’s about devotion and lasting love that nothing can separate even life.
my dad told me mom dying nearly killed him, he was drinking very heavily, but finally snapped out of it. They knew each other nearly 45 years
Sissy Spacek has consistently made me want to give her a hug in every role she's played for the past 50 years
Same
she was so good in bloodline
Was this from a movie? Or made just for this song?
@@MizRuthie it was made specifically for this song
I somehow found myself spending a thanksgiving with her and her husband Jack and their family once. Great great people. Phenomenal taste. I think I embarrassed myself gushing about Jack's new project. The told me Johnny Greenwood was doing the score on "Dad's new project with Paul Thomas Anderson". Life is wild, man. But yeah... good people. Not always found in that echelon.
didn't think a film so short would ever make me cry but here I am
Me and some friends took some mushrooms one night, and my friend had this TV channel where music videos would just play. This song ended up playing and oh my god dude we all fucking cried by the end of the video. One of the greatest music video's I've ever seen.
What video was it?
@@austins.2495 This one.
im not even on shrooms and it makes me cry 🤣
I love how they blurred out the equation, which says to me they actually solved teleporting and couldn't let the secret out. That's true cinematic commitment right there.
Dam and I've been talking about this idea for years and here it is but the ending, where'd they go?

I cried everytime I see it
Wow!! I'd heard the song before, and loved it. This video adds so many beautiful layers to an already beautiful song. Absolutely love it!
That shot of the Barn being in the very center of the frame is held for 10 whole seconds; For a music video that is such an eery amount of time for one typically boring thing to be in focus, but I literally could not take my eyes off of it because of the gut-wrenching tension they created beforehand. This whole video is honestly one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life I can't believe I'm just now seeing it.
Thats Rian Johnson for ya
Came here from the Leave The World Behind trailer, but absolutely gobsmacked. I did not expect to watch something so emotionally impactful this morning. By gods, the acting, the storytelling, the music... And doubtless the best thing I've ever seen Rian Johnson direct.
Sissy Spacek being in this was a lovely surprise
i lost my friend a few months ago to suicide, they were only 18 years old. they had shown me this video while we were laying in my bed one night. i will miss them forever. thank you lcd soundsystem for this beautiful song.
He’d rather be nowhere with her, than somewhere without her.
Great comment! :)
(Insert crying emoji here)
Ricky Gervais from After Life?
Ahmed A only took 9 months for someone to notice 😂 still think it fits well with the video tho
Lewis Pritchard me too, if we are talking about Sissy Spacek
Can't stop watching this video. It's so well directed. There's nothing arbitraty, every single frame composition and its length says something. And the actors' performance is so intense and real. Perfect storytelling.
Absolutely, Rian Johnson did an amazing job here
Darth Azog Can’t believe this is the guy who made trash ass the last jedi
Johanna_ Jelly I give it you, you right.
@@corbonthec0b the last Jedi was amazing
@@corbonthec0b The Last Jedi is the best SW film since 1980, Rian Johnson is the best filmmaker Disney is working with right now. Appreciating this video is your first step to realizing that :)
ok WOW. That ending got me good. Its 4AM and im stuck working night shift. I love watching music videos and that has left me in tears.
I cry every single time I watch it. Never gets old.
Reading the comments below I can´t but notice how this video had the exact same beautiful effect on literally hundreds of people. No buts, no ifs,... just one big WOW! We surely come from different parts of the planet, different walks of life and different ages, yet we all agree on how mesmerizing this video is in its simplicity. Whoever is behind this, thank you for adding 5:48 minutes of pure beauty to my life. Thank you!

I discovered this song by accident only now in 2023 thanks to the excellent miniseries A Teacher (2020). Yes, I'm behind, but I'm glad I didn't completely miss both this fantastic song and the series. Greetings from the Czech Republic
If you see them on tour, they will probably play it. Its simply a breathtaking experience. Make that a priority
At 0:35.. the way his stare at the lady syncs with the beat drop.... it is just amazing
This is just amazing. I'm in tears... the song, the video. The most beautíful and moving thing I heard/saw in a long time...

@@JBackkkkk I reworded it to make "somewhere" anywhere. I think it's more effective, ha.
@@PaulBenjaminJenkins that's fair
Hands down their best work. Sad, melancholy, hopeful and whimsical all in one song. And they have two Academy Award nominated actors to do their music video. 👏👏
I listened to this song in the car on the way to my wedding rehearsal the night before my wedding. It was a beautiful moment - I was marrying the girl I loved. Now we're divorced and I can't help but feel really sad when I hear it, even if it reminds me of a happy moment in my life.
I’m sorry for the breakdown of your marriage. Love lives on elsewhere… 🙏🏻💕
@@assyrianrelief that is extremely kind of you. I certainly hope so. All the best ❤️
@@garethvers1384 I hope love continues to find you in this life and beyond unknown friend.
I really know what you feel bro. Type o negative was in the CD player of my then gf car as I rode to see my cousin before the coroner came to take him away(it was called love you to death) it was our song when I married my GF because we were type o fans and I wanted to bring joy back to the song. Were still married only because I haven't been able to make myself divorce her though we've had no contact since 2019. It's a hard song to hear.
@@assyrianrelief I appreciate your kindness. Ive intentionally remained single ever since then; it's been 4 years and 2 months now. It's more difficult some days than others, but it's worth it. The conflict is we aren't meant to be alone this way,but I personally refuse to ever settle in order to relieve my burden. As hard as at may be, I don't advise anyone to ever invest themselves emotionally in someone in spite of what their gut tells them. It's a balance between our hearts and our logical minds. Without balance all we'll ever achieve is conflict or total disconnect. This is what I've learned about coexisting with anyone anywhere period.
Forever somewhere between Here and There
Boss Wizard Your phrasing is perfectly succinct, and hopelessly romantic. Well said, and spot on.
wow this comment, exactly this
Neither here nor there.
Pat Fritsch As is your description of his comment! I gave up trying to say it better. Kudos to you both!
There is no between Here and There. As we saw in every other example, immediately upon entering Here, you are already exiting There, there is no delay in the "Nowhere" - So the ending was ruined for me!
I adore David Strathairn. This was quite a find. Thank you for considering him for your video.
Girl, same! One of the most underrated actors ever.
The 2 columns in the end saying 'here' and 'there' then the 2 lovers dissapear and you read the columns and work out they are neither here nor there. Thats deep.
"There's always a side door/Into the dark" Holy cow. And the timing at 5:36. Wow. Phenomenal. Love it.
I'm just flabbergasted by the execution of this video and by its relevance in regard to this track that has made me feel so content and depressed at the same time. Great job by all the people involved in this project. The end really got to me in an unexpected way.
raidenwave Ryan Johnston is amazing
Having a baby as the one is important for faithfulness and support. Spirituality is making ourselves a Baby to The One.
Passion, dedication and love could not be separated by death. What a fantastic vignette.
Not only a fantastic song (one of the most fantastic), but also one of the greatest (if not the greatest) music video of all time.
What a masterpiece, both song and film clip! David Strathairn is Top shelf. Every movement, every look is just so precise and effective and believable. He evokes so many emotions you just feel what he is giving with every sense. Him and sissy, what a combo! No words, just actions, that's just phenomenally beautiful and haunting.
Why isn’t this a movie yet? Love these two actors, and their chemistry was so wonderful to watch, albeit... heartbreaking.
Some stories work better when short.
@@moshiadnfusionfallfa agree, a full movie would be kinda meh
the beauty of the short story is that the narrative allows your own mind to fill in all the blanks

Wow I thought this was from a movie 😯
This has been my favorite song for YEARS and I just now decided to watch the music video??? Oh my heart
There should be an award project for music videos and this one should be the first to win and inaugurate the best music-imagery fit.
Ok. I cried. I can admit this, because this was the perfect example of music and imagery coming together in telling a beautiful story.
They're not here, nor there. They're together.
I could see Rian Johnson making a full length feature film based on his video for the song. So well made and emotional. Amazing stuff.
David Straithairn such a good actor. Loved him in The Expanse
He's a fantastic actor in everything he's in. It's hard to believe he's the husband who goes down the well in Delores Claiborne, the slimy pimp in the white suit in L. A. Confidential, and Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck!
@@theresademorrow1003 and whistler in sneakers , now that’s a movie
The song and video are an absolute work of genius. How can a music video tell a story and pack as much emotion as this so powerfully. Truly wonderful. "There's always a side door into the dark" - chokes me up everytime.
if you ever see this - i heard this song for the first time as I was driving to Philadelphia to see you and I fell in love again
When i first saw this video, i ran to Google to find out what movie had these 2 of my favorite actors in it.
Came to find it was the song's video only, yet it tells such a beautiful story. 🥰
One of the only youtube vids ive ever watched, to have a completely amazed comment section. That says something about it. What a video
This video is where I come whenever I've seen something elsewhere on the internet that makes me say "There's five minutes of my life I'll never get back." This video is my hack for those pitfalls. This is 5:48 seconds that is so amazingly perfect that it makes me feel like I am not worthy of seeing it.
81,000 upvotes and not a single down vote. This song hits so effin hard. Played this right after Shark Smile by Big Thief, and now I have to go do something else because I will spiral down if I continue listening to music like this.
Kids, when you get married/find yer one, come back and have another watch. It's gonna hit different.
I loved every minute of this, the cinematography, the poignancy, the ability to narrate a couple's entire life in a mere matter of minutes is beautiful
one of the very rare cases when a music video is as good as its song
Rewatching this, it resonates more when you realize they're willing to let go of all their material worth to complete the experiment. They go from a beautiful furnished home to a small, empty one where they drink champagne out of solo cups. They don't care. The only thing that matters to them is making this impossible dream a reality.
yet, he let go of everything achieved, to a chance to freeze time, to be together for all the eternity somewhere between Here and There
your comment is everything.

I saw this music video several years ago and have been searching for it. I’m grateful to have finally found it again
I'll love to see this convert in a full movie (with the same actors, and director)
I had never heard of LCD Soundsystem or their music before, until I went for their concert on a friend's recommendation. This was one of their songs they played live and that stuck with me. Having found this video now, it is one of the most heart-wrenchingly beautiful piece of art I've seen in a while.

Well, that was the most incredible music video I have ever seen. So glad I' watched it in my locked office so I could sob openly. Thank you for making me feel these feels.
This music video honestly brings tears to my eyes. The ending has so much emotion poured into it.
What are the Oscars equivalent for music videos? This right here should win! Beautiful
This track touches me every time i hear it!! Whoever wrote this video deserves an award!!.. would love to watch more of their material, the actors also delivered perfectly!
there's just something about this song I can't pinpoint what it's making me feel...it's dreamy, I feel like on a cloud, but I also feel confused, lost, and sad
Probably one the most soul touching song recently made !!!!
Thankful for that gift !!!
I could listen to this song on repeat for the rest of my life and die happy.

Thank you Rian Johnson, Sissy Spacek, David Strathairn and LCD Soundsystem.
Unironically I don't think I've ever heard nor seen a more beautiful music video in my life
Whoever made this video is a pure genius!!!
It's Rian Johnson. I agree, guy is a genius.
One of the most beautifully gut wrenching music videos I've ever seen
The music mixed with Rian Johnsons amazing visual storytelling is absolutely perfect
I can’t quite pinpoint what exactly makes this a masterpiece. The lyrics? The music notes? The singer’s voice. The video? The storytelling, the photography? The actors? I mean Sissy Spacek! The couples story, they left it all behind to chase a dream together. They made it happen and then she dies, there’s nothing left for him. And he’d rather be on the other-side where his love awaits for him.
This song emotes something inside me I didn't know existed. A masterpiece.
This is by far the best music video I’ve ever witnessed..
Listened to the LCD Soundsystem discog this week, and thought possibly this was my favourite of so many great songs. The video makes it even better. What a fantastically heartbreaking concept, beautifully executed.
I'm a physicist and this video makes me cry. I hope my life will be kind of that life
This is the most beautifully put together masterpiece of music and videography. Lyrics, production, story. Perfect.

I know I'm wayyyy late to this video and song but I just wanted to say this is THE BEST !
