    Thoroughly enjoyed that Chris, I walked up there to the moor a few weeks ago. What a stunning stream!

      It's a beautiful spot Mark, you often share it with dog walkers and wild swimmers but it should be for everyone shouldn't it..
      You don't want too much rain, once it gets above about 0.25 on the river levels website alot of the pools become too fast for easy fishing.

      @@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 I've pocket-fished for the palm sized wild trout on the upper sections of several of the Northern rivers and I don't think there's anything more enjoyable - or challenging!
      Unfortunately, living in Kent, it's sadly lacking in any form of trout rivers.

      @@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Hi Chris, the lake which is part of our club sits in the most picturesque setting. Our club has only 25 members and a healthy waiting list, but you can opt as a full member to fish both lake and river or, just the latter. Years ago some of my work colleagues an I set aside one week a year to go fishing together. Mostly on stillwater. I never took to it if the truth be known. Rivers, big or small are my forte. Each to their own. The lake in question is only 30feet deep at its deepest point and around 8feet at its shallowness. We stayed until dusk and although fish were topping ( stocked rainbow and a good head of wild brownies) nothing doing. That's fishing. On another evening it may have been so different. Cheers, Peter

      He's already asked if I'm going this week Richard, he did try Tavistock trout fishery when he firsted moved down but after somewhere as vast as Rutland I suspect it was a poor substitute? Nothing wrong with small put and take fisheries but different people are looking for different things from fishing aren't they.

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724

      There are lots of day ticket beats available via the fishpass app (formerly the westcountry angling passport scheme) . Its an online token system that covers a fair bit of the West Country.

    Hi Chris, a question for you which is when you are fishing the duo what pattern and size fly do you use and what size tungsten bead nymph 2.5 or 3mm , the reason I ask is because whatever dry fly I put on generally sinks with a 3mm bead. thanks Mike

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike, I normally use my "no name" klink, as it has two hackles (8 wraps) it will hold up a 2.5mm bead no problem. If I wanted to go to 3mm then I'd use a big Whickhams with deer hair for the wing. Don't be shy with the deer hair, you can always trim some off into a small muddler type head👍
