That happens when you have such a large library of chords licks and theory you can just improve. I have done that a few times. You jsu play what comes to mind. Some was born with music in them. I still struggle with jey changes as it wasn't something I praticed but I must do it to be better. I have learned to reharm or make and play the song my way now. God is good. Just keep praticing and hang around a player much like Jayson and you will get better your ear is important as well to be able to hear the crazy chords. The flat 5's 9's shart 5 and 9's and know where to place them. It takes time also learn song that already have the chords licks and progressions in them. Learn them in all 12 keys. Then make them yours. Listen to jazz, fusion jazz 80's 90's pop, classical and take chords and progressions from them and put it in your playing as well as old school gospel and the new neo soul and r&b styles.

@@TerranceNock I agreed a combination of both is better but relative pitch gives you the ability to follow the melody line. Think about it you have other great advanced keyboard players and organist on that skill level who could do the same thing with relative pitch alone Joe Pryor is a great example of that.
