The astonishing thing about these old cathedrals is that, as I understand it, they sometimes took so long to build that people would spend and entire lifetime on a project and not see it completed. I don't think there's a level of social trust that would make that sort of thing possible, today.

Yes this is true! Different times for sure. Also the working conditions and expectations in those times were deplorable!!

Trying to go for that Wayne Manor style used in The Batman, it’s so cold but beautiful.

Great video, i'm very into this style as well as dark academia, maximalisim, with touches of grandmillenial :). I toured some cathedrals in London years ago and they were very impressive and beautiful.

Another great example of misunderstand the term "Gothic" You are actually describing a younger trend that got started back in the 80's underground music scene in london called "Goth" Actual Gothic was very colorful. Even Thomas Chippendale's reintroduction of this style back in the 1700's was colorful. The only thing dark of the original Gothic style were the shadows. Even the stone work wasn't dark....but Goth ? Now that is dark !...it's all tongue in cheek, taking its inspiration from the old vampire horror movies where all the old styles of Baroque, Rococo, Italianate or Renaissance Revival were the backdrops in Black & white films. Almost a good offering.

Wait what's "Victorian Gothic"? The Victorian era was almost 1000 years later.

Sorry, it's confusing because I didn't deep dive enough into Gothic. So there is Early, High and Late Gothic Era. The Victorian Gothic movement was in the late Gothic Era.
I have had some interest on going deeper into this look. Gothic architecturally spans a long time:) lots of information and hard to sum up in a short video.
