@cathynewyork7918 Thanks so much, Cathy! I'm very happy with my result and had an amazing weekend in Chicago! More to come when I put out the video, but the race is spectacular. Two gents around my age that I was with this weekend ran even faster! My friend, who's 59, ran a 3:22, and a 61 year old subscriber ran a 3:34!
@@oldmanvanrunning Wow! Well done all three of you! Remember that you have been knocked out of training by injuries and illnesses, going way back to your Boston prep, so you didn't have quite as "deep" a fitness base as maybe the other guys did - so maybe in the future you can run them into the ground!!!!!
Bill - have a wonderful time in Chicago. Enjoy your shakeout run, the Expo, and of course, most of all, enjoy the Chicago Marathon! Run well. As the Brooks running shoe company says in their advertisements, "Run Happy."
Great info!! I was wondering what your nutrition plan was for this run! Awesome!! The shorts are the best! I now own 3 pair!! Good luck to you! What an exciting experience. I get tears in my eyes thinking about my big run coming up!! 🌟🌟
You mentioned and acknowledged the Berlin Marathon the Twin Cities Marathon, and the upcoming Marine Corp Marathon. You didn't mention it, but here in New York City, we also have "a little marathon" coming up on November 5. Kind of a big deal around here.😀
@@oldmanvanrunning Our NYC Marathon does NOT feel "further out" - the New York Road Runners has volunteer CPR training starting already, and we are getting bombarded with emails about elite runners and marathon-related events - it feels very close. I felt bad that you didn't mention NYC, because, to be honest, it IS a "Major" World Marathon and it's coming in less than four weeks!
@@oldmanvanrunning Well, our NYC Marathon IS a BIG Deal, both with me personally and here among NYC runners - and runners from all over the world. I hated to see it omitted. Our marathon really is important on the world running schedule - more so than the other marathons you mentioned.
@GT-kx6hm You're very welcome!....One to two shots daily for two to three days before the race and then one shot about one to two hours before (the time it takes for the nitrate level to reach peak)...Some people will start taking the shots a week or two out.
@marklanghorn9220 Hey Mark...I have multiple glo es that I use. The ones in this video are New Balance cool weather gloves I bought at the NYC Half Marathon Expo. Light but warm
I have the same shoe and the insole where the holes pushing my underfoot cause pin kind of pain after long run.. I though The rod broke and poked me but no bumps thru the insole.. Kinda weird
@@oldmanvanrunning I agree that she was so impressive. Bill, I hope, desperately hope, that her win was "clean" and that NO dirty drug test result comes back. I want to be excited about this. I hope it is "for real."
Uh oh, Bill. Are you about to make the same mistake you made in your last race????? You listed all the gear you plan to use in the Chicago Marathon - EXCEPT your watch!!!! Are you going to go to another race without your watch???? LOL. Take the damn watch!!!!
@@oldmanvanrunning 🤣 Your "wearing it 24/7' strategy didn't work so well in your last race, but I'm glad to hear you have a plan to not forget it for the Chicago Marathon. 😀
@@oldmanvanrunning Oh, sorry, I thought it was your watch that you forgot - you borrowed something from your friend to save the day. I thought it was your timing device.
What's a 61-year-old man doing running the Chicago Marathon faster than many people decades younger than he is!!!! Well done, Bill. 👍
