This is really more an advanced lighting tutorial, that provides extra tips for people that already know the basics. I guess we need to read and learn the wiki first and then watch this ...
I never realized how complex lighting is. Great job Bethesda for all your hard work and I'm sorry for complaining about collision problems you already put it a lot of hard work as it is.
Nice. Now I see why there are "lighting artists" for movies and games. This dungeon became a LOT more interesting with the different lights and smokes. I want a tutorial on OPEN WORLD SPACES!
Basic dialogue is easy but sometimes its gets difficult. Such as to setting up additional dialogue to a vanilla NPC, so they have independant lines of dialogue. The new one never appears in game, even if its top-level and has initial topic set. Can we have a advanced dialogue tutorial to cover these diffculties like this, wiki is good enough for basics. Thumbs up for this series! Lighting & shadows is what makes a game look great.
I like how the tutorial begins with all the lights already in the render window and the preferences window open, guess I'll have to find that all myself...
@TheBardabar But what good is a quest if there's no cave to put it in? As for map markers, there's an entry named "MapMarker" in the CK. Type "mapmarker" into the object window search, hit "*all" at the bottom of the list, and then place it into the world. Name it, choose its icon and its detection radius, and you're done.
I have got to agree. He started off in the middle of everything and didn't really explain some of the more crucial aspects very well. Actually, this one was very minimal. Kinda explains why there are so many mods that fix lighting issues in Skyrim...
He not only starts smack in the middle of something but he kind goes over everything backwards for a new person perspective, so I see how confusing it can seem. Ref Batch window btw: View>Reference Batch Action Window...(since he says it 100x's but never how to do.)
@gdh6200 I definitely would love it if they made another set of episodes going in depth with the SCK and going into developing conversations, events, scripting, and sooo much more.
Thanks for the lighting tutorial helps alot with the charactor of the dungeon and helps set the moob of it too :) ill be uploading my first in about 2 weeks i want to make sure i get it right before i upload :D not want mistake in it. Also the next tutorial would help loads too because im having trouble with the location of the enterance (where to put it) to match the dungeons Extierer and intierer.
@TLudt888 You're right. The shadow limitations are a VERY big minus of the Engine. It's because they desinged it to handle the very old and slow consoles. A PC has no problems with rendering good looking shadows.
some light objects don't have any preview effect on the dungeon in creation kit, some do.. is there some way to see the lighting effect for those objects, without having to launch the game?
hey diego, i manage to fix lightning on my mod eventualy, i just mixed both types of lightning, i think this happen when you duplicate too much lights of the same type, try doing 2shadow 1 omnidirectional for a big room, play with the scale too :), hope this solve your problems.
please tell me how to increase the limitation of 4 visible shadowcasting omnis. is this important that this is 4 and no bigger? or can i change what happens when there are mor than 4 shadowcasting liht in the view? the default action seemes to be turning off the nearest light if there are other 4 lights taht u can see evan a bit (like in fare distance). if i can't increase this limitation then i would like to make the more distant omnis to temporarelly loose theyre shadowing abbility.
I may sound like a noob, but my areas are all well-lit on it's own. if i bring it on in skyrim i only see a room with some bright spots, but nothing darkened up, which is the reason to lit your dungeons... how do I get dark areas?
@digitalgameplayer If I press 'A' then everything is brighter. Without A it looks a little bit darker, but not enough, you cannot really see the lighting effects. How to make a room darker?
Figures, the most complicated part has the worst tutorial out of the 10 :(. And for some reason i cant get those spheres to appear with the lines in them, can anyone help? Ive tried M and L but that didnt change anything.
My map will glitch where when I test it using coc it will only show half of one of my rooms and it will only show void space and then when I walk over there, it will load and the other half will disappear. Any suggestions on a fix?
i mean... even if the other shadow casting lights are outside of the shadowdraw distance so u can barely see them, the light right next to the character will turn on and of while rotating the camera. HELP!
i ran into a problem. all the lights that are categorized as default are red and dont work when i bring them into the cell. why is that and how do i fix it?
dont get it. I understand lighting now, but my room isnt that dark as that in the tutorial. So everything is on light I dont need light... but I want to make dark rooms with some lights, looking much better. Any ideas?
Hi! I´m creating a mod and I´m having some problems with light. Sometimes when I test the mod, the lighs go off. It depends in wich direction I´m looking at them. Reading the comments I got that it may happen when I use shadow lights. But I´m only using omnidirectional light that cast no shadow. So I don´t understand why it happens. Is there a limit of how much of them can I put in? Anyone can help with this?
ANYONE i need some help here please: When i create light in my house.. it sometimes turns off automatically, then turns on when the camera gets close.. also in-game, when i get close to the light its on, when i step away from it, it just turns off straight .. ??
This is really more an advanced lighting tutorial, that provides extra tips for people that already know the basics. I guess we need to read and learn the wiki first and then watch this ...

This one will take many viewings to sink in, unlike previous videos. He explained a LOT, really fast.
i just watch these for fun and its seriously awesome. keep it up Bethesda!!
Batch Action hot key is -
This shouldn't end with only 10 episodes!
We want a season 2! xDDD
Nice. Now I see why there are "lighting artists" for movies and games. This dungeon became a LOT more interesting with the different lights and smokes.

Thumbs up for this series! Lighting & shadows is what makes a game look great.
And landscapes!!! PLEASE do this Bethesda!
Do a bigger tutorial series for creating a city or town! Thumbs up, everyone!
FUS RO DAH!!!!
Awesome atmosphere at the end of the video!
I like how the tutorial begins with all the lights already in the render window and the preferences window open, guess I'll have to find that all myself...

now we all can really understand the ammount of work that it takes
@gdh6200 Yeah... I heard "We'll teach you how to make a dungeon AAAANNNDDD a small quest to go along with it. Stay awesome Bethesda, don't give in!
I have got to agree. He started off in the middle of everything and didn't really explain some of the more crucial aspects very well. Actually, this one was very minimal. Kinda explains why there are so many mods that fix lighting issues in Skyrim...
I kinda have the feeling that this tutorial is going to be the toughest to understand.
@Wacancy Because you're placing lights with shadows, if you place more than 4 shadowed lights near each other, the thing you mentioned will happen.
MAN I have waited for this! THANK YOU BETHESDA!!
@TheBardabar In the Creation Kit press Edit/Preferences/then tick the Shaders box...it turns itself off sometimes.
He not only starts smack in the middle of something but he kind goes over everything backwards for a new person perspective, so I see how confusing it can seem. Ref Batch window btw: View>Reference Batch Action Window...(since he says it 100x's but never how to do.)
+Singularity Bound Thank you! Yes, and I just thought that maybe I wasn't paying enough attention during previous tutorials.
Cheers my fellow human
@PyroCastUK there are tutorials on the creation kit website
@gdh6200 I definitely would love it if they made another set of episodes going in depth with the SCK and going into developing conversations, events, scripting, and sooo much more.
When did you uplad 8? :D Im totaly behind

Why only 4 visible???? I NEED MOAR
@TLudt888 You're right. The shadow limitations are a VERY big minus of the Engine. It's because they desinged it to handle the very old and slow consoles. A PC has no problems with rendering good looking shadows.
I'm guessing there no way to stop light from passing through solid objects?
I didnt now Bethesda had a gaming channel. Needless to say I subscribed asap!
DefaultTorchNS is not displaying any light....
So yeah.. Watch out for that..
some light objects don't have any preview effect on the dungeon in creation kit, some do.. is there some way to see the lighting effect for those objects, without having to launch the game?

For some reason I can't get the ambient lighting to work, when I press apply the OK button isn't active and it changed nothing in the Lair.
Why is this age-restricted?
How do you do mods like making custom armor or weapons or monsters? and texture mods. is that possible with the creation kit?
After these tutorials can i start working at Bethesda as a level designer?
Hope 'Bethesda' brings out the extented DVD / Blue-ray box set soon
@digitalgameplayer If I press 'A' then everything is brighter. Without A it looks a little bit darker, but not enough, you cannot really see the lighting effects. How to make a room darker?
Hm. Cell Ambient Lighting Data or anything of the sort cannot be edited while that cell is actively loaded, the "OK" button is greyed out.
saved the project after doing some optimizing, now 90% of my objects and map is gone ;)
why oh why I cant select to display only specific type of markers like light markers only...
Why is it the last one? Can't you make more? :(
Figures, the most complicated part has the worst tutorial out of the 10 :(. And for some reason i cant get those spheres to appear with the lines in them, can anyone help? Ive tried M and L but that didnt change anything.
Soooo, HOW or WHERE do we get all the different kinds of lights in the first place???
@FrizzleyProductions they are uploaded long before they show up, and the list is sorted by upload time, so look further down on the list.
i'm using a spotlight for a cave system, but the light appears red, and doesn't produce any light, does anyone know how to fix this?
My map will glitch where when I test it using coc it will only show half of one of my rooms and it will only show void space and then when I walk over there, it will load and the other half will disappear. Any suggestions on a fix?

@MrBennettAK
well it works in the ck, but when I enter the dungeon in the game, nothing changes.
Even if I set it on 1 in the ck :(
Is these videos for download somewhere? Because trying to stream them via TH-cam just makes me crazy. So slow these days.
i ran into a problem. all the lights that are categorized as default are red and dont work when i bring them into the cell. why is that and how do i fix it?
dont get it. I understand lighting now, but my room isnt that dark as that in the tutorial. So everything is on light I dont need light... but I want to make dark rooms with some lights, looking much better. Any ideas?
How do i make the Dungeon Darker?? Mine is too bright and I dont know how to change it :(
for some reason ctrl+alt+s doesn't work for me. any suggestion?
Nice Vid, I'm glad there is a pausebutton.

Good Work ... PLs Name of Song 10:45
can you please release the full length videos without the sped up section just incase theres any other tips in there that somebody could find useful.
@Savageliferaul I'm pretty sure it is. There are wiki articles that go with these videos at CreationKit [dot] com
i keep getting that red light bulb, how do i fix that??!?!!
@FrizzleyProductions There're two channels for bethesda, BesthesdaSoftworks and BesthesdaGameStudios. Make sure you're subbed to the last one.
god i hate it when ppl that are trying to teach you speak fast like you already know everything !! ITS A TUTORIAL explain stuff
This is what Gopher should do tutorials on. He would do real good.
SickStick39 Darkfox127 got some pretty good ones
When press 6 to turn the fog on all it does is change the void from grey to black
i'm completely lost,but i'm still watching. XD
He is using the defaultcandlelight, but I'm not sure which type.
Love you Bethesda! :)
I would like a tutorial for creating a new behavior graph without the Havok Behavior Tools. I probably won't get one for a while though.
Good God this guy goes fast
Town creation please?
HAHA, love the Clone High reference at the end.
@TheBardabar did you ever find out why this was??
you guys should make this a downloadable dungeon after your finish with it
@TheJeyjeyshine no i think its for the tomb
There are tutorials for other things like traders, scripting etc. on the wiki
Lights can be found in the Object Window under the Light tree. Sounds sarcastic, but I'm not being such.
They still need to cover questing, npcs, custom races, making your own traps and some exterior work
I was going to ask what a default directional template was... But I guess I better watch the video first.
I have no idea how to use water still
It's the "dash" key ( - )
Good stuff
Or even better, all the menus for lighting?
But isn't that just a set time though? Not the same time as the ingame time.
If there was a way to increase the FOV on the Creation Kit...
I so wish I could get a wider angle camera in the Creation Kit. Very hard to work sometimes. Feels too "zoomed in". Oh well!
Looks like my Skyrim Xbox copy might start collecting dust thanks to PC's Creation Kit.
@TheBardabar I've got the same problem...
I'm in the UK and I'm experiencing no problems, maybe your internet provider?
Godlike
Love Bethesda.
@sgtmoody87 Nevermind, I didnt have a template selected.
it works!, cheers! :D
i don't think so, my friend found a program that does that. i'll post it on here when i get it from him
you know we can't see your keyboard....right?
Thanks A LOT :-) .
From this tutorial you should be able to do that on your own.
Epic win
